New to Insemination

Post by onesweetangel »

Hello all,
I am going to undergo my first attempt of artificial insemination. My husband and I underwent a cycle of IVF that was cancelled. We had a total of 32 follicles and 12 eggs were retrieved, unfortunately the embryologist told us our eggs were not matured. The docs are still trying to figure out how my follies that measure 22,21, & 20 cm were not matured and my estrogen was 4500.

Well DH and I decided to try artificial insemination next. Can anyone tell me about their experience with AI. My nurse said I would be taking injections but said they are not as involved as IVF (whew)!
IS AI always done with injections? Can you do AI with Clomid?

Any help you guys can give would be greatly appreciated!

You can do AI with Clomid, but the response is not nearly as optimal as the injections are. Plus with Clomid you take the pills for 5 days and you get what you get. With injections the doc can adjust your meds to get the desired effect, keep you on the medications longer and you usually recruit more follicles. I am very confused as to why you didn't have mature oocytes with 22mm follicles. Most likely they started you off on too high a dose of meds. My facility would "down reg" you with Lupron and start you off on a lower dose to keep you on meds longer in hopes that the follicles grow slower giving the egg inside a greater chance of maturing. If the follicle and E2 level rise too quickly the egg may not have a chance to mature.

IVF Nurse, I don't know why my IVF cycle failed. My doc said they group together and review all failed IVF's, so we are waiting for our results. I too am baffled why my cycle failed and so was my doc. He said my stats were so good they met the criteria of an egg donor.

I was on BC's for almost 3 weeks then I started on 75 Menopur and 300 follistim consistently throughout my cycle. Then I took Cetricide ( 1x) and 250 Ovidril (maybe I should have had 500). I think this is the culprit. What do you think?

Out of the 32 follies, they retrieved 12 eggs but we were told by the embryologist that none of the eggs matured. She said she noticed that three of the eggs were beginning to mature 24 hrs. after the egg retrieval.
Have you ever heard of anything like this?

Now we are doing a cycle of IUI. Doc said I have to take BC's again ( ugh) and then I will start injections again (follistim only). My question is.....I thought IUI was suppose to be done around my natural OV. How is this possible If I am going to be on injections for 8-12 days? Are they going to control my Ovulation.

Another question, If they retrieved all my eggs, how did I end up with a menstrual cycle this month? This might be a dumb question but I was just wondering about it.

Thanks for your help.

AH-HA! I think you hit the nail on the head with the Ovidrel. Ovidrel or hCG completes the maturation of the egg prior to retrieval, so that could definitely have been the issue if you didn't get enough. At our facility, we either give 2 Ovidrel or 10,000 units of hCG unless we are concerned about severe hyperstimulation and getting too many eggs we will then reduce the dose in half.

I am considering AI as I've had no luck conceiving naturally. I've been told it might be difficult for me to conceive from a number of procedures I've been through in the past, including an operation to remove a cyst in one ovary.
In my mid-thirties and been married to my second husband a couple of years. Needless to say, the pressure for me to conceive is enormous.
Lately I spend my time reading about AI as am almost certain of going that way if nothing works out soon. I suspect the problem is with me I've previously had a Doctor tell me I have low ovarian reserve. Don't know why as he said the condition is common to women in their forties. Considering that might be the problem and since am in a hurry to give my DH a child, can I find a place where my problem can be diagnosed and if need be discuss AI? My search on the net has yielded a couple of such clinics which include one known as BioTexCom-Kiev which seems to be quite popular from the reviews left by users. Any leads, anyone? That's before I speak to my husband, see if he will consider accepting an egg donor to come to our aid. I feel quite drained right now.

- it mainly depends on what kind of treatment and service you would like to get. As an option you might consider IVF clinics in Czech and Poland, Cyprus, Spain or Russia. If you want to know more, you might visit fertilityfriends co uk or eggdonationfriends com where you would find tons of reviews and info. Good luck.

Intrauterine insemination (IUI) is a fertility treatment that involves placing sperm inside a woman’s uterus to facilitate fertilization. The goal of IUI is to increase the number of sperm that reach the fallopian tubes and subsequently increase the chance of fertilization. One is suggested to undergo IUI if there is low sperm count or decreased sperm mobility.
Before intrauterine insemination, keep your eyes on ovulation, it must be regular or ovulation stimulating medications may be used. Then IUI is performed at the time of ovulation, collect the sperm and inserted directly to the uterus by using a catheter. It not injection, its catheter used to insert sperm. It is a less invasive and less expensive option compared to in vitro fertilization. But have chance of multiple pregnancies.
Using IUI with Clomid therapy can maximize a couple's chances of getting pregnant with the fertility drug. For a couple using Clomid plus IUI, the chance of getting pregnant each month was 8.3%. Clomid with IUI helps most of the couples to get pregnant and has good success rate. Hope it helps you. Good Luck.

Hi there. How are you? Why your IVF cycle was cancelled? It can be done with Clomid. However, the chances of positive result increase with injections. Why are you unable to conceive naturally? Are you suffering from some problem? Feel free to share.
