Unable to conceive! :( Any pointers??

Post by natalieahill »

Hey there,

Hope you’re doing okay. My husband and I are having an issue conceiving. Let me give you a bit of our background.

I’m 31 years and healthy. My husband is 34 years and he is healthy as well. We have been married for about 6 years now. We didn’t want to start a family right away. So we waited for about 2 years before trying to get pregnant. We have been trying since 4 years. But there doesn’t seem to be a positive result. We have even consulted a few specialists, but they are not able to diagnose what our problem could be. Everything seems normal, but I’m just not able to conceive. It’s so frustrating at times! Whenever I do the pregnancy test, it just shows a BFN!

Has any one of you gone through what I’m going through? Any help/advice/suggestions will be really appreciated…I’m totally LOST at this point… :(

Hi natalieahill,

I’m really sorry that it’s not working out for you’ll. I can totally understand what you’re going through. I’ve been there before. Our gynecologist wasn’t able to detect my wife’s issue as well. She and I also went through a huge emotional rollercoaster a couple of years back. We changed a few specialists, but no luck. We were not able to focus on anything else. Having a baby became our life goal!

We were determined not to give up.

My wife and I decided that we would visit another well-known fertility specialist. That was the time our lives changed forever and we didn’t even know it.

Not only were they able to detect what was wrong, but they also suggested a fertility treatment that worked for us. We are now proud parents of a healthy baby boy. :D

I suggest that you and your husband shouldn’t give up so soon. Visit a few more specialists. I’m sure, one will eventually be able to detect the problem and suggest a treatment.

Hey joelmullins,

Wow! That’s really great. Congratulations to you guys. :D

I’m sooo glad that you replied to my message. We had just about given up hope. I’m sure you know how wearisome it can get! Especially when they are just not able to figure out the issue.

We have visited a few well-known specialists as well. But since they were not able to give us any hope, we were losing it completely. We’ve become so moody and irritable, lashing out at each other for no apparent reason…

But anyways, after hearing about you’ll, I now know that miracles do happen. I’ll talk to my husband today. I’ll tell him your story, tell him that there’s still hope…

Thank you once again for ensuring that we don’t give up!

Hey natalieahill,

I’m happy that I could be of help. You know, we decided giving up was not an option we had. So we were firm in doing what it takes to become parents.

I forgot to mention last time though. My wife had 2 miscarriages in the past. Besides this, there was no other major issue that we encountered. We did mention it to the specialists. We did a couple of tests to find out the reason for the miscarriages. But the tests were not really conclusive. So we were back to square one.

Do you have any such history of miscarriages or maybe an abortion? Sorry, don’t mean to pry. But discussing such issues with the specialists will help them diagnose you better. Even if it’s as common as taking contraceptives, you should give them all the details. You never know what could be your reason for not conceiving.

Hey joelmullins,

Sorry to hear about the miscarriages. :(

Well, I’ve not had a miscarriage or abortion in the past. But I did have an ectopic pregnancy. It was discovered quite early on. So fortunately, there were no permanent damages. I’ve spoken about it to the specialists. I’ve also been tested post that. Nothing major was reported. So I assumed everything is fine.

You mentioned something about a fertility treatment. Can I ask what was it that you’ll were advised to do? It’s just that there’s so much information out there. And I’m not sure what would apply to me… :(

Hey natalieahill,

Good to know that you seem fairly healthy.

Since no issue could be diagnosed, our specialist had advised us to try conceiving naturally at first. So we did that for about a year. However, we had no luck!

This is when we visited another specialist.

There are a couple of fertility treatments out there. IUI, IVF and ICSI are the most common ones. Surrogacy is also an option. But all these treatments are best discussed with your specialist. They will be in a better position to advice and give you suggestions.

The course of treatment, cost, and the time taken will all depend on your medical condition. When you visit a specialist for the first time, be prepared to talk about your entire history. This will help them gauge your situation better and suggest accordingly.

Hope I was able to give you a rough idea. However, imo, the fertility specialists would be the best people who could advise you.

All the best! :)

Just realized you had asked what we did... :)

We started off with IUI. This is a fairly simple procedure. You don't really need to stay at the clinic. It's an outpatient procedure. After the procedure is completed, you need to rest for a few hours and you're on your way home then. The whole point of this procedure is to get the sperms as close to an egg as possible. This increases the chances of conceiving. However, it didn't work for us. :(

We tried it plenty of times, but no luck.

Then we were suggested to try IVF. Did it for 3 times, but no luck again...

However, the 4th time proved lucky for us! :D

Thank you so much for your message, joelmullins.

Yes, I’ve come across these treatments when I was researching online. As you mentioned, the treatment will depend on my health condition. It’s on a case to case basis. And as of now I don’t even know if I need to consider any of these treatments.

It’s just so annoying knowing that nothing’s wrong, yet everything seems wrong at the same time. I’m still looking for any suggestions or advice on which clinic and which specialist I need to visit. There are so many from where I am that it’s difficult to judge its reputation.

Once we narrow a few, maybe I’ll be in a better head-space! :?

Hey natalieahill,

Yup, the most difficult part is probably finding a good and trustworthy clinic and specialist. It took us a while as well before we finalized on the one. We visited quite a few clinics. Some seemed too good to be true, while others were just not affordable at that point in time. Some of these treatments can really burn a hole in your pocket. Plus, there is the cost of hormonal medicines and injections.

However, there are a few clinics that also offer some kind of money back guarantee in case a few fertility treatments are unsuccessful. I feel those are worth looking at. Maybe you can also look at a few in your area.

Basically remember to work out all the pros and cons, you should be fine then!

Well, that’s great to hear about the money back guarantee. I know it can get very expensive if we do decide to go with any one of these fertility treatments. I’ll be sure to ask and check what they offer before I make an appointment with the fertility clinics.

I’ve already been asking around. It seems like more people are suffering from infertility issues than I imagined.

Anyways joelmullins, thanks a lot for your help. I really appreciate it. I will look more closely now and keep all your advice and suggestions in mind.

Will keep you posted as and when! :D

P.S: Feeling much better already... :)

Hearing about your problem all I can suggest is to consider a second opinion. It's time to find another clinic who'd run a diagnostics again to be sure there isn't any medical cause. There's always an underlying reason. No one can be infertile just without any explanation for it. I hope you get to the bottom of it ASAP to fix whatever is counteracting your TTC.

I am also unable to conceive. I am new in this forum. I have tried every fertility treatment so far. But nothing affected me. My husband loves children. But I am unable to make him happy. Please guide me if you have something. I have seen about surrogacy. I am here for a research on surrogacy. I am a famous model and I want to keep the process private. What can I do for that? All the clinics are not that good. Ukraine is famous for surrogacy till now.

Oh, I am so sorry to hear your problem. I would like to suggest that you will go to a fertility expert. There are IVF and surrogacy to choose from. Just do not be discouraged nor drowned yourself to sadness.

Hii Natalieahill
I am sorry you are suffering from al this. As you said you are just 31 and your husband is 34. Generally, one can naturally conceive at this age. In my opinion, you people must have complete body tests, so as to diagnose the problem or switch your clinic or doctor. There are many good clinics and hospitals all over world. If you already had tests and diagnosed with no problem. Then, this may be the genetic problem. But, there is no need to be stressed because there is nothing like you can be pregnant at all. There are many ways to get pregnant like medication, surgery, IUI, ICSI, IVF and Surrogacy. All you need is to be keep clam and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Try to be stress free and give yourself a chance again. Good Luck. Hope you get pregnant very soon.

Hi, dear. So sorry you can't get pregnant for such a long time. Unfortunately, nowadays infertility is getting so popular. To say truth, I don't understand why the situation is so frustrating. Every woman is worth of being a mother. I also faced infertility a couple of years ago. I've gone through 3 miscarriages and one stillbirth. You know, it was really hard. I was trying to stay strong but it was almost impossible. I just appreciate my husband for his support. Your life is very difficult now, but you have to keep trying. Please, don't give up. I believe you will get your baby very soon. I wish you good luck, dear. Let us know how are you doing.
