just failed first IVF cycle... feeling depressed

Hello Everyone,

I'm 32 years old, soon to be 33. My highest FSH was 9, AMH 0.99. I was diagnosed with diminished ovarian reserve via ultrasound. The RE saw 4-5 antral follicles on both sides and said for someone my age, it should be closer to 10. He suggestive IVF and was initially pretty optimistic and said that if we undergo genetic testing and transfer a chromosomally normal embryo, I have about a 60% chance of carrying to term.

We underwent our first round of IVF with high doses of follistem 350 and menopur 150. It took 14 days, longer than average for my follicles to reach a retrieval size but on the day of the trigger shot, the RE thought he saw 10 good size follicles. He ended up really retrieving 10 eggs but only 4 were mature. He did ICSI and only 2 fertilized properly. All were progressing slowly but by day 6, none made it to the blastocyst stage.

We spoke with the RE again last week and he does not seem as optimistic. He offered another IVF cycle and we plan to take it. He said he'll try to increase the medications and hope that we'll have more mature eggs to retrieve. He kept on saying "I can't promise that anything will be different" which makes me wonder if he even thinks that we have a shot.

I'm feeling very depressed. Did anyone have a terrible first cycle that ended up with better results the second time?

Hi, I am sad that you have to go through this. Don't get depressed there are many couples who face this problem.IVF is a better option my best friend went through the same procedure. You should try again and don't lose hope. Or trying another consultant can be useful for you.

Hello dear. Your doctor is telling you the truth because IVF does not promise any assurances and that is why he also cannot assure you. It is totally up to you if you want to go for the second cycle. The results can be the same as the first cycle or can totally change and make you pregnant. I hope that you get pregnant soon. Make a decision carefully.

Hi, I am sorry yr cycled failed. Unfortunately it might happen. You might discuss IVF PGS NGS with yr doc to see whether it increases yr chances for a positive outcome. xx

Hello dear! I feel really sorry for you. IVF cycles never ensure you success. That is why your doctor is also not sure about it. All you can do is that just stay positive. Take good care of your health. I hope things will change for you. All the best for the next cycle.
