no blasto again - why?

Post by 46494649 »

I just went through the second IVF, feeling pretty deflated. 6 eggs retrieved, 5 fertilized - which I thought was good rate. but only to find out on day 5, there is no blasto to transfer. 1 early blasto, 3 morula, 1 arrested.

1)
what does this very low blasto rate (0 out of 5) mean?

2)
I somehow assumed high fertilization rate correlates to high blasto rate, but is it not true?

3)
I have hard time finding pregnancy rate for day 5 early blasto (compared to full blasto). can anyone enlighten me?

not even one blasto out of good quality eggs, feels like the time and money just draining without any hope.
started to doubt the point of proceeding to the third cycle.

1. It might not be low. You may just be impatient. Wait and see.
2. It does.
3. Depends on your clinic’s methods.

You may end up with some blastocysts on day6. These days the trend is to freeze day 6 blasts. They seem to be more likely to implant in frozen embryo transfer cycles than in fresh transfers. At a decent US center, the fresh transfer of one day 6 blast should have a birth rate near 30-40%, and maybe 50% or so frozen.

Thank you, Ghost, for the answer.
dr. told me that he was expecting to see at least one, maybe up to 3 day5 blasto out of eggs with the quality i had, it sounded like our result was below his expectation.

what's really troubling to me is that this (decent number of great quality eggs, ended up no blasto) happened twice in row. the test of my husband sperm was good on all aspects. dr. didn't talk about anything about potential cause on the day of transfer - perhaps out of kindness to stay positive, but what would have caused this kind of result? is it likely that it is DNA fragmentation of sperm, you think?

I wish our clinic can offer day6 transfer, but they pretty much stick to day5 fresh as standard - not sure why.
if day6 blasto (fresh) has 30-40%, how is the number like for day5 EB in your experience?

A day 5 early blast is pretty mch like a day 6 full blast or hatching blast. Probably around 30-40% live birth.

Thank you for the information, ghost. Your comment is always such an encouragement that it helps me not to give up just yet.

I was disappointed to hear the result on D5, 3 morula and 1 EB, no full blast and 2 best were transferred then. I just heard that they were able to freeze both, 1 full B, 1 hatching B on Day 6, completely to my surprise. I never had anything left for freezing. This had to be our last IVF due to many factors, mostly financial, but another FET may be possible, which gives me a little more hope.

I'm so sorry to hear about your troubles... I'm glad that you found little hope in 6 day fullB and hatching B. :) All it takes is a bit of luck I guess and you never know maybe a miracle awaits you right around the corner. :)

About your questions: A low blastocyst rate could be due to either egg or sperm quality. As far as I've figured from a copious amount of digging resources online - it's mostly attributed to low sperm count. What exactly are your fertility issues? Does that include any noticeable male infertility too? If you've already tried ICSI maybe IMSI can help. It deals with morphology basically, but due to the higher magnification of the sperm compared to ICSI the rate of success might just get enhanced. Well, a high fertility rate is somehow related to a better blasto rate but then there's too much variation from individual to individual and nothing is guaranteed as far as conceiving and a full-term gestation is concerned. A day 5 blastocyst has more success rate than a day 3 one... so stay optimistic. Wish you good luck!

My hubby and I have been trying to grow our family and have a baby for over a year now. We were having problems conceiving. Doctors have told me that I would have difficulty conceiving due to having a bicarbonate uterus. Email:drokoliherbscenter@gmail.com Or Call/WhatsApp:+2348066439533.
I couldn't stay without thinking about my problem for a day till i heard of man called Dr Okoli whom God sent to change my story permanently.I am truly grateful sir.Contact Dr Okoli now via Email:drokoliherbscenter@gmail.com Or Call/WhatsApp:+2348066439533

Lol, Ghost, that was incredibly hilarious! I'm pretty sure she did her background research very poorly to write bicornuate as bicarbonate. Meanwhile, I was curious which country is this post asking us to call as this seemed new compared to the spam post we're used to... guess what? We're gonna call a Dr in Nigeria! :D Lol would be an understatement. I mean really? Who fly all the way to Nigeria for treatments... especially if they are from US or UK or Australia.

rachelfrank you don't have to be a clinical expert to know that the 37 per 1000 live births is the neonatal death rate there... sounds scary to any normal person.
