Post by Ellie »

Hi Girls
Just interested to know what advice you have about the 2ww usually I spend the whole time lying on the bed getting stressed. This time this is not going to be possible so I wondered if there are any definate no no's. My clinic are not very forthcoming with this kind of information and say rest if you can it might help!!!!

Hi Ellie, that isn't very helpful of your clinic.

My clinic's advice is to "carry on as normal". But other people in the past on this board have been advised to take it as easy as possible and avoid things like hot baths and sex.

There doesn't seem to be hard and fast rules about what you should and shouldn't do. But I personally try and keep my life as normal as possible - but have to admit there is definitely no monkey business until after the test - and if it is +ve there won't be any for a long long time !!!!!

Good luck with your ET - have you heard when it is going to be yet?

Love

Hi Ellie,

My clinic advised me to carry on as normal and didn't mention anything about baths or sex. I was told to avoid heavy exercise but that any other exercise was OK. I was at work as a teacher throughout my 2WW (went back in after ET) and I organised a Sports Day which involved lots of running around and carrying some heavy equipment. At the end of the 2WW I got the positive I dreamed of and the resulting twins are now 2.

Personally I'd have gone mad resting and not working and I know that next time, I shall do exactly the same (except that I shall alaso have toddler twins to run round after).

Good luck with everything.

Ellie:

I was told no hot baths, no sex, no jogging, no jumping, and not to lift anything over 20 lbs. I was also told to eat as if I was pregnant...no drinking alcohol, no brie, so sushi, etc. I feel the best I've felt now on week 2 of the 2ww, go ahead and have so fun....just not too much fun.

Hi Ellie

My hospital also says to "carry on as normal" .... but as well as all the things listed above, I've read you must avoid :
caffeine
tobacco
alcohol
drugs
strenuous exercise (unfortunately this includes housework !)
bouncing activities such as horse riding / aerobics
sunbathing
saunas / hot tubs / hot baths / jacuzzis
swimming
stress

... and keep the abdomen warm, but don't use a hot water bottle. Eat warm nourishing food, make sure diet is rich in protein, zinc, essential fatty acids and selenium. Drink a minimum of 2 ltrs / 4.25 pints of water every day.

(All from Zita West's book - "Fertility and Conception", which I can't recommend enough).

Hi Ellie

My hospital say to take it easy for the first 3 to 5 days, no sex, no coffee and not to lift anything heavier than a half filled kettle, oh and no reflexology. They also say there is no evidence attached to most of this but they advise you do what you feel comfortable with.

I read a lot on here last time about no hot baths, no hot water bottles and to shower pointing your belly away from the water. Who knows though as my nurse said on Tuesday with all this you wonder how anybody gets pregnant.

I have added things to my 2ww each time I have done this so this time my list is no baths, shower with belly away from the water, eat as if pregnant, no alcohol, no essential oils, no sex, no lifting, no cooking, no housework(about time dh did it all for a bit), no chemical stuff used in cleaning or in beauty products. Plenty of rest but still doing somethings, off to the cinema in a bit. Off work for the majority but not all of the 2ww.

At the end of the day who knows if it makes a difference at all but there is nothing more I can do and at least I know that when I get my test result.

Maybe its just an excuse to get pampered for 2 weeks, but I feel well rested and pretty good so far, on the 3rd day of 2ww.

Look after yourself

First 2WW

Post by tracie »

Hi everyone,

i am also on my 2ww - this is our very first one, our 2 little embies were put in last week, this has to be the worst bit, the waiting its driving me mad, i'm trying not to stress about it though and trying not to read into any signs my body is giving me ie i feel like my period is coming, hopefully this is normal and so far nothing has happened.

My clinic advised 5 days rest before going back to work, no alchohol or caffine, no housework, no lifting heavy stuff, no pushing shopping trolleys around, no aerobics, but gentle swimming or walking is fine (as long as its not a 9 mile hike!!), no sex etc.

My test is in 1 1/2 weeks time and its a urine test and not blood test, so fingers crossed, i also keep talking to them, i know it sounds crazy but it kind of helps a little and my hubby is being fantastic which also helps.

Good luck to everybody that is on the 2ww and fingers (& legs) crossed.

Lots of love
Tracie

Ps any more advice always welcome.

activities during 2ww

Ellie

Bless you, this part is the worst isn't it? just waiting around wondering if you are pregnant and of course being out of control, its all down to mother nature in the end, how many times have you tried ivf?

How come your clinic hasn't been forthcoming with the information, did you not get a fact sheet of do's and dont's.

Hi Ellie

Everyone feels like you do at some point. The 2ww is so difficult, about 2 hrs after my et i was moaning about wanting to know the result.

Just try and keep positive, I know easier said than done but at the end of the day you have as much chance as the rest of us. 'Whats for you wont go past you' as my mother says.

I just try to focus on how much we want to be parents either through IVF or some other way.

Try not to worry

Lots of Love

Tracie,

You are not on the August Tester's list thread. Would you like to be? If so, what is your test date? We need to see as many +ves up there as possible, so would love it if you will join us.

Ellie,

I am thinking positive thoughts for you!!!

Tracie,

What day did you have your retrieval done? We had ours last Thursday and we went back for our transfer Sunday. We also had two embies transfered! The two week wait is driving me nuts! I am so emotional and I don't know if it is just the progesterone shots, but I cry at the drop of a dime -- then I get upset with myself because I know it isn't good for the embies to be upset! I just want to know NOW!!!!

Does anyone know the earliest we can take an HPT? I know the trigger shot would give a false positive, but how long until the trigger shot cycles out and our own hormones will cycle in for a +++? I am so impatient and the thought of waiting for another week and a half -- ARGGG!!!

Thanks girls -- I am thinking of all of you and wishing wonderful baby thoughts for everyone!
