can any one tell me if ec is painful, I have been reading alot of stories on other sites that even though they were sadated they were in sever pain during and after the procedure.
I will still go through with it (I would literally go through anything to get the child I crave)but I would like to know in advance so I can prepare for it mentally. If I am prepared I can keep my stress levels under control and keep my thinking positive.
Many thanks Nicola x

I would have to say that in my experience EC was ok. I have it under iv sedation so it is a bit like a general but not as strong so now much to recover from. I usually find that after collection I have cramps like period pains for about 4 hours. The clinic give me a suppository during the procedure for pain and tell me to take paracetamol when I get home if I need it . I always think I will but never do. I have had 5 ec's and get between 10 and 15 eggs.
I think that EC is the part the people fear the most. And I'm with Ellie on this one - I have had 2 by iv sedation (+ painkiller suppository beforehand) and they were both ok and I don't really remember much about it all.
I really am the biggest wuss going - the only bit I find the slightest bit uncomfortable is when they put the iv thing in my arm....
Hope this helps to put your mind at rest.
Love
Dolly

I too had IV sedation and the last thing I remembered was them switching the IV from saline to the sedating meds and telling me they were doing so. Then, I woke up in recovery. I did have some severe, doubling over type pains kick in around 30 minutes after leaving the clinic. This probably could have been avoided, however, if I had taken the prescription painkillers they offered me when I woke up from the procedure. Instead, I told them I felt perfectly fine and didn't need them. Well, the only reason I felt fine was because the painkillers they gave me during the procedure hadn't worn off yet! I did need to keep taking the painkillers the day of the procedure and the day after and spent a good deal of time in bed with a heating pad on my stomach. It was certainly tolerable though.
Good luck!

Hi, I've had 2 EC procedures with different drugs, although at the same clinic. They've used sedation both times which has made me woozy and the 2nd time I actually fell asleep during the procedure - which p*ssed me off as it's really interesting watching the screen and hearing how many of the follicles had eggs in. I've had 9-10 removed each time and whilst I remember having some discomfort the first time, there was nothing the 2nd. I've always taken their painkillers though. Staci's point is a good one, take the pills as it's too late once you're at home and the sedation finally wears off. Yes EC is probably the more painful part of the whole show but at least it makes ET feel like a breeze!

I have had EC twice and was under sedation and both times i have never felt a thing during the precedure or remembered anything but i was asked if i wanted to be fully sedated or wanted to no what was going on and i asked to be fully sedated, after i was not in any pain just felt a little uncomfy and both times i have woken up real quickly and felt fine though when i have been sitting there i listen to others not waking up that quick or in pain so i guess its down to we are all different.
the first time having it done for me and for most is scary becuase you dont no what to expect but im sure you will be just fine its not as bad as it sounds when you read about what they are going to do.
Take care

I had my ec yesterday and I still am very sore. I feel like all of my abdominal muscles have been strained. As far as the actual procedure, I was totally out for it and don't remember a thing. Has anyone else felt this kind of discomfort longer than the actual day of the procedure?
Good luck to everyone!
