32 weeks scan/who's next?

Post by Juliana »

Hi everyone,
After an hour wait we had our 32 weeks scan today - i cannot believe we are that far! Our boy has grown tremendously, and is now 3.97 pounds /1.8 kg but the girl lags behind at 1.4kg /3.09. Did any of you have such differing weights? the person doing the ultrasound was a young trainee and she could not measure things very well and then they almost scared me by looking if the girl got enough blood through the cord, I have the feeling they were almost looking for problems. I have the feeling the babies are both ok, but now they have planted a small doubt in my mind about the girl. Has anyone had anything like this experience?
On the other hand they do say that measurements are not so accurate at this stage, so I think all will be well.
I wonder by the way who is next after Tracey and Helen Louise's marvellous babies, Alisonn, is this you?
love,
juliana

Hi Juliana!

Not long to go now then, how exciting that there will soon be more twins on the way.

As for the weight thing, we were always told that our two were even weights and they were when they were born, although they weighed a pound (half a kilo?) less than the estimate But my friend was also told that hers were similar weights but when they were born, the little girl was actually 3 pounds (kilo and a half) lighter. So they'd been terribly wrong with their measurements and the little girl was in Special Care for about a week. It sounds as if your estimated weight might be more accurate than over here if they're identifying a difference between them, but the difference doesn't sound too big - a lot of twins weigh about a pound difference at birth.

hihi juliana, from what u are saying try not to worry to much, the
weights seem good and there is always going to be one twin that
is the more dominant. It must be difficult to get exact readings
when there is two little one wriggling around, and im sure if there
was any doubt they would have brought in a senior person to check,
they would never leave anything to chance.
Our u getting very big, i just cant imagine having two little ones inside
me, i find it difficult walking with just one, after my scare at 29wks
i just seem to explode, all up front so very difficult even just to put
my knickers on in the morning !!!!!!
I was going around at the weekend thinking it was 5wks this friday
for me, but dp pointed out it was in fact 4wks this friday............
i just cant believe it, it just seems like yesterday when we both had
our good news in january and we are now so close.
What is the protocol in Holland with twins, do they let u go full term
or do they induce early ???

Hi girls,
Jules, i have also heard that scans are not so correct when it comes to measuring their weight in these last months, they just cannot get them on the screen so well, so I am not too worried. Still, what you say is reassuring. I guess i want to know too much already but I will know when they are born. we are seeing the consultant on Monday so I am curious what she will say about these weights.
Hi Alisonn,
it is amazing indeed that you have only 4 weeks to go, I also find it's getting amazingly close now! talk about not being able to get your knickers on - I can hardly bend any more! My belly seems enormous and yet it and they have to grow more, i don't know how it will all look but remember Nikola talking about her big fundus so I expect it will somehow get even bigger! I am so glad for you that the baby has stayed in after your scare. i also had a couple of relatively peaceful weeks and am grateful for this. I still have to ask if they induce with twins but have the feeling that they just leave it...must ask Monday. have you been to any prenatal classes? i have not, feel guilty about it but have so little energy anyway and we are doing the baby room (well mostly dp, but still)... am so tired for most of the time that I can hardly accomplish one task a day...

love,

hi juliana, let us know how u get on today with the consultant. We are
offered 4 antinatal classes will be going to the 3rd one tonight, last
week it was all about pain relief etc which was quite interesting, and
also the use of the birthing pool which sounded quite relaxing.
We are still in the middle of huge building works i was getting quite
depressed with it all last week, but then i think i dont realy care
as i have the most presious thing ever to happen to me very soon.
Tell u what i had a bath last night and had to ask my dp to add extra
water as i couldnt reach the taps, surely i cant get much bigger !!!!!

Jsut a quickie - I need sleep - you have all this to look forward to
Don't worry - just because I am not around so much there is no need to worry behind my back  Loads are different weights and this is not too bad and they are not always that accurate - one scanner had mine undersized for goodness sake and the senior lady came in and said they were over - she actually got the weights bang on nearly!
Both are growing well and seem fine so please try and enjoy the last few weeks and save your energy for other things!
As for fundus - mine was 47 cm when I went in! And I am slight frame!

Loads of love

Hi girls,
i had a good chat with the consultant and she measures the ehad of the girl again and got it bigger - clearly the other scanner was too inexperienced. With this new measurement (she only did the head as the scanner had the head quite out of line with the rest!) the baby size is more in line with the growth curve which I understand is the main thing, keeping growing. We spent hours in the hospital, they are so disorganised my dp reckons I will be late giving birth because all the doctors are always late :)
Tracey it is so lovely for you to sacrifice your precious time to calm my worries. I am doing my best not to worry behind your back, you trained me well! I am so happy thinking of you even if not your lack of sleep, hope it's not too bad....
Alisonn, I know how annoying rebuilding can be , we are only doing small changes and improvements and the chaos sometimes gets to me. I hope for your sake they are done soon.
By the way we bought a lovely red chinese cupboard for the baby room, so cute, now I am wondering if it can be toxic (there I go again, sorry Tracey) but it is so pretty the baby room will be transformed. We are trying to make it nice without totally remodelling it as we are still renting and will buy another house when we can get our act together eventually.
lots of love from me,
juliana
