Fet-tastic!

Post by Trixie »

Hello all, I haven't posted very often but often "lurk" on the boards and almost feel I know a lot of you through your wonderful supportive posts to each other. Wanted to share my news with you all as I know that you will understand what this news means to me.

Background is I am 36, ttc nearly 3 years, male factor diagnosed. Had our first cycle of IVF/ICSI in October last year. The clinic threatened to cancel it because of a poor response, but in the end I was allowed to continue, 5 eggs were retrieved of which 4 fertilised. 2 were replaced - negative. The remaining 2 were put in the freezer and we were told to try a frozen cycle next.

So this time round, went for FET, (natural, I am lucky to live very near the clinic so could go in for daily blood tests), only 1 embie survived the thaw and even then on the morning of transfer it looked like it was on its way out - clinic rang and said come in later, they wanted to monitor it for an hour or so before I had a wasted journey.

Anyway, in the end it did survive (just!) - what was a 4 cell day 2 embie ended up as a 2 cell embie (and very sorry for itself it looked too when they showed me it before transfer), so I can honestly say that I did not hold out much (any!) hope for it, especially given that success rates for FET tend to be lower than for fresh transfers.

Well I had my blood test today at the clinic and guess what - BFP!!!!!!!

Really can't believe it, this FET thing really can work and I hope this brings some encouragement to anyone thinking about or about to do a FET. I know it's a cliche that it only takes one, but it really does only take one!

Hope you don't mind me sharing my news, and wishing everyone on this board lots of babydust and BFPs themselves.

Trix.

Well done Trixie - so inspiring to hear such good news - soooooo pleased for you.

I had ICSI in October last year, failed, and had FET in January, again failed.

My next ICSI is 1 June - I am really going for it big time this time around (ie very little alcohol, lots of water, acupuncture, herbal brews, vitamins & minerals - the lot!).

It is brilliant to hear of FET actually working, as my unit tells me they have had alot of successes by FET, but I don't know of anyone that it has worked for - until you!

Good Luck xx
1 failed ICSI, 1 failed FET, next treatment starts in May with EC on 1 June 2004, hoping for a 2005 baby!

Thank you so much for your story and CONGRATULATIONS. I am so pleased for you.
I have just had a failed ivf (it was my first cycle). I am lucky and have 6 frosties. I have been feeling really negative so you have now cheered me up no end.
Thanks

Hello Everyone,
I was reading past posts and this one made me feel extra good about my upcoming FET cycle. I know that there are at least a few people in the same boat as I am-----recently -tive results but at least a few frosties. I hope others in the same situation keep believing in miracles!

I am having a horrible time getting my mind out this infertility thing and getting back in the swing of things at work.
I have bought Zita West's book, and I feel that it is helpful and informative. I am going to try to focus on getting healthy for my next cycle.

Trixie,

Thank you so much for sharing your incredible story with the board! And thanks to Mia for bringing it up to the top again - just what I needed!

I had FET almost 2 weeks ago and had convinced myself there was no way it could have worked because the embies didn't look so good compared to the ones from my failed IVF. But I've felt more positive the last two days thanks to the girls on the board and this post really has helped!

You must be delivering in November?

Mia, Angela and Alicia,

Thank you all for your kind messages and good wishes. Alicia, I am thrilled to see your positive, that really is fantastic news and I wish you all the best for your pregnancy.

Yes, I would have been due in November, but unfortunately suffered a miscarriage quite early on. However, I want to reassure you all that my doctor was absolutely adamant that the miscarriage was NOTHING to do with the fact that it was a FET or an IVF/ICSI pregnancy, and was just one of those things that can happen to ANY pregnancy.

I am still a big fan of FET. Since my miscarriage I have had two further fresh cycles, both negative (just found out second cycle hadn't worked on Monday) and unfortunately no embryos for the freezer. I can honestly say though that if I am lucky enough on a future cycle to get embryos to freeze, I would jump at the chance to do another FET cycle. I found it much less stressful (as I lurch from negative to negative on fresh cycles) -I think there may be something in the theory that some people do better when their bodies are less pumped full of drugs!

I really hope that this post has not put a downer on anyone, I was in two minds about whether to post as I didn't want to upset anyone, but you have all been so kind in your wishes and in the end I thought better to be honest. I tend to be a bit of a "lurker" on these boards (log in from work and am always a bit worried I will get into trouble if I post) but I have found great inspiration and taken great heart from the people on this board and their stories - like Tracey and her lovely bouncing babies! - and I wish everyone well and lots of babydust.
