Phone Call from my clinic

Post by Mandy Miller »

Hi Girls.

I am posting this so that you can all see how cold & unfeeling these clinics can be. I am at the Bridge Centre near London Bridge & I have to say they are very good & professional, I had no pain & the ops went fine. What I am annoyed about though is that I tested last Thursday, sent my result off as asked Thursday pm, so was surprised to get a phone call Monday evening this week (6th Sept) to say would I ring them for 'a chat'!. The message was on my home phone, so by the time I arrived home they had closed. Phoned them yesterday for said chat!, presuming they had got my result & were ringing to check we were feeling reasonably OK. How wrong I was. They only wanted to know my result! They said they hadn't received the papers, but that they were probably at the clinic, but still in their post room! I found this really insensitive & promptly burst into tears when I got off the phone, after telling them I was OK!. I phoned my hubby & burst into tears again. This was only 4 days after I had tested when they had originally phoned. They did the same the last time too. I really think they should give us at least a few days to come to terms with what is devasting, no matter how prepared you try to be.

I hope they will rethink their policy on this, but I doubt it.

Sorry to whinge & thanks for listening, but felt I had to get it off my chest. I have sent them an e-mail suggesting they try & rethink the system if they can, but I don't expect any miracles.

Love & best wishes to all still going through this Hell.

Hi Mandy,

God, as if it's not hard enough without things like that! Sometimes it's impossible to get your head around how incompetent and insensitive people can be. Wouldn't you think that in an IVF clinic they would know better! Obviously not....
Rant any time you like....That's the fantastic thing about this site - everyone is here throug hthe good times and the bad.
Hope you are feeling better now you've got it off your chest and are beginning to look forward to your holiday.
Take care,

Hi Faith.

Sorry I haven't replied yet, but have been a bit busy at work this last few days & also have been having a bit of a struggle looking at this site, for obvious reasons right now.

Just wanted to say thanks very much for your kind words. I must say actually that I did receive a phone call from the clinic to say they were looking into it, as I had e-mailed them to let them know it had upset me & I have since received a letter apologising for any distress they may have caused & saying that they are trying to find the right way to do this. My only gripe was that they phoned up only 4 days after my test & hadn't even checked to see if the results were at the clinic by then & they didn't say they were phoning for results, but for a chat to see how I was which wasn't really their main reason for calling, but I realise they meant well. I just think they should re-think the way they do things a bit, but that may not be possible.

Not having much luck on the holiday front. Went to book a week in Marmaris, Turkey the weekend, planning to fly out on the 27th of this month, only to find out my passport only has 4 months on till 25th Jan 05 & you must have 6 months to go to most non-european countries apparently, so am now desperately trying to sort out by then or 1st week in Oct if not. I have an appointment on Thursday to go to the Passport office in London in my lunch break to try to get the Fast Track service which is guaranteed in one week, but instead of £42.00 for a renewed Passport it will cost £70.00! We can't book the holiday till we have it back, so it will be a very last minute one.

Thanks again.

Take care & I hope you have more luck than I have. I wish you all the best.

Love & best wishes.

Hi Mandy,

Just wanted to say that it's good to know that your IVF clinic recognised that they could have handled things better. Who knows, maybe they'll change their policy and it will save someone else going through the same thing.... Not that it makes it any easier for you....

Did you get your holiday / passport sorted out? What a pain! Still, it will all be worth it when you get on that plane and leave this wind and rain behind....!
Take Care,

My Holiday

Post by Mandy Miller »

Hi Faith.

Thanks for your message. Yes, am feeling a bit better now. At least the Clinic apologised. Maybe I was being a bit over sensitive.

I had to go to the UK Passport Office last Thursday. I had an appointment for 12:45 so left work at 11:45 & got back at 1:45 by the time I had queued up & done it & paid etc. My poor boss, I keep having time off at the moment for appointments etc. I have to have my follow up consultation on 18 October next, there is always something. I had the passport fast tracked which means that instead of paying the usual £42.00, I had to pay £70.00, but it was worth it. It will arrive by Registered Post they tell me by this Thursday at the latest, so once that is back we can finally book. Hopefully going 1st week in Oct now. Can't wait, but can't really get excited till we have actually booked etc. Really need the break now.

Hope you are feeling reasonably OK.

I can only hope that one day we ALL get our dream!

Keep in touch.

Take care.
