Still got lump in stomach

Post by Jools »

Hi Everyone

Wasn't sure whether to post this here or on the General Forum, but I worry that I'm being insensitive when there are so many others who are still going through hell.

I've got a lump about the size of a marble in my stomach. I noticed it initially after I'd done my down reg injection (23rd August) and thought it was just the stuff that I'd injected that hadn't dispersed properly. I didn't really think any more of it after that until I found it again yesterday. I've also still got the needle mark next to it, when all my other ones have healed now. It does feel tender when I touch it, and it even sticks out a little bit. As my IVF Dr is in Italy, and my Dr doesn't seem to be very helpful about me having done it abroad, I'm not really sure what to do. Has anyone else experienced this (if so, how long should it take to go), or should I be worried? I'm wondering if I should have done this injection in my butt instead of my stomach.

Secondly, icky subject (sorry! ) .... has anyone else used Crinone (progesterone) vaginal gel? I've been using it since ET, and was told to carry on for another 2 weeks (30 days in total) which I am, but it's really grossing me out! Although I put it in using an applicator, it seems to turn into a substance that I can only liken to fish eggs! I thought it would be absorbed, but it seems to just be building up and I feel like I'm completely bunged up with it now! I daren't even let my DH near me as it revolts me so much! I've got another week and a half to use it, and I'm wondering how long it will take to disappear after I stop using it. I'm really hating it!

Sorry to waffle!

Love Jools xx

Jools:

I was laughing out loud when I read your post. I was one POI injections for the first 7 weeks of pg (5 weeks after transfer) and then put on the suppository progesterone (Crinone 8% gel or something like that) until 12 weeks. The gel went well for about the first 3-4 weeks, and then it just started clumping up and staying there! I could dig it out in the shower and it looked like sugar cookie dough! I NEVER mentioned it to DH and didn't let him near me either! So it's totally normal what you're going through. Though the gel for only 30 days seems kind of short. My ivf Dr. and my ob said that the placenta starts producing it's own progesterone at 9 weeks (49 days post transfer) so they like to overlap the progesterone for weeks 9-12.
Congratulations on your bfp and join us in the first trimester friends thread!

Jools,

I am taking progesterone suppositories. My doctor will have me taking them until the end of the 12th week. Similar to Paige's doctor, she says it is probably not needed after 10 weeks, but they keep it up another 2 weeks just to be safe.

Not sure why you are only on it for 2 weeks. Except that my doctor prescribed it for 2 weeks and then I had to renew the prescription when I got a +ve. If possible, you should call the clinic in Italy and check to make sure.

Hope all is going well for you. I bet you can't wait until you can get some regular medical treatment, just like all those lucky ladies who conceived naturally. When will your first scan be? 8 weeks?

Jools,

just in case the last two posts have worried you, I only used the progesterone suppositories for 2 weeks after +ve. My clinic said your body then takes over because it knows it is pregnant. I am now 22 weeks 5 days with twins so it did me no harm. Can you not call Italy for some reassurance though?

As for the injection, sometimes you do get a lump if it isn't absorbed. I think you should be able to go to the gp for that though. I think it is pathetic they won't treat you because you had the ivf in Italy. Isn't that discrimination?
