Oh I know just how you feel! LAst week my sweet cat Dougie was diagnosed with kidney failure too. He is only 10 years old and he is absolutely my baby. I really cried when I found out, thinking he only had weeks to live. It seems he can still have time, perhaps up to two years if we can keep him eating and drinking. I have been devastated with this news and it has consumed me for over a week now that I haven't kept up with the board. I logged on today to read that your Cooky passed away. I'm so sorry and I really know how you must be feeling. I can't imagine life without my cat, he is so much a part of mine and my husband's lives, especailly as we have no children. he really is our baby. Now I have to accept that he will only be with us for a limited time befor e the inevitable. Only a fellow cat/pet lover can really understand how this feels. I'm just starting the down regg phase of my second IVF treatment and this has really knocked me pretty hard. I'm trying to rally, but the sniffing medicine already makes me depressed and irritable.
Sorry to go on and on. You have my heartfelt condolences, truly.

I am really sorry about your Dougie , if its any consolation Cooki had Kidney desease for over 4 years and they put him on a special diet , it was in pekket form calld KD its quite expensive but who cares , we wernt allowd to give him cat food from the super market especially tuna in oil which I thought was good for him !!! but its too salty and dehidrates them . I only gave him white fish and chicken . I hope he is ok and that you need to be calm for your Treatment . Have you been on any web sites to see what you can do to help him .

i had a labrador called goldie for 18yrs which is a fantastic long life for a dog, just like ur cooki... but after he died i swore that i would never, ever get another pet again.... until we got married and at the reception, my dh was saying a poem during speeches and kept saying the name darcy - i was thinking yikes, too much wine for u hehe but then his cousin walked through all the tables of guests with the most cutest, fluffiest border collie pup called darcy that i burst into tears - the whole wedding reception didnt have a dry eye! and u know what? i've never looked back - i have my dog, cat and a bird called jean-luc... i look at it as if im saving another little animal coz trust me, theyre spoilt - dont know how i'll cope for a year in the uk without them! so give it time, dont say u'll never get another pet - they are so rewarding and they love u so much!
have fun making your cards, wish i had some artistic talent in me but i think its non existant doh!

Thanks. Yes, Dougie eats the same food-Hills K/D food. I am a bit worried though because Dougie was diagnosed because he had a crisis-vomiting, looked pretty sickly-and he pulled through. I've visited loads of webistes and got alot of good information, plu sI took him to Glasgow which has the best vet hospital in the UK. So, depending on the animal some live longer than others. Dougie's kidney failure is pretty advanced-less than 25 % of his kidney capacity. How was Cooki? Did she have a crisis like Dougie? How advanced was she? Dougie is eating his food but not drinking very much which is what worries me. I have opted not to do the sub-q fluid injections because it hurts and I want Dougie to have a good quality of life even if it means it may be a shorter one.
You're right about the treatment, I am trying to stay pretty calm and am feeling better about things. I must be becaus eI've chosen to go for the weekend to Amsterdam with my hubby like we planned. The cattery dDougie stays at is very good, they love him and he is comfortable there. So I think he will be fine, hopefully.
Hope to hear from you-it helps to put my mind at ease.
You lucky peoples , you will have a great time , dont eat the cake!!!!! we all got stoned and lost a day!!!! there were 8 of us ! anyway re:cooki he was diagnosed 4 years ago when the diabetise was found and apart from this last bout we never found it to bother him. they also checked every time the did anything to him IE: he had 7 teeth out and we had left it as they said he wouldnt survive the anistetic but after a year we decided that he really needed them done and they checked his kidneys etc and all went well . I do hope dougi is ok while you are away ,
ok do you mean you got stoned stoned or people threw rocks at you?
we werent blessed with our babies to raise here but we our blessed with our grandaughter
and all of our many adopted and foster children that touch our lives
and i am glad to add that our 6th grandchild will be born this spring!!!!
glad to hear that you had a fantastic time in Mexico, but what a blow to come back an lose Cookie. I can imagine how heartbroken you must be. Pets become such a part of the family, and after having him for 18 years then you really will feel his absence.
Anyway take care and don't forget to send me some piccies.
I'm so pleased you had a great time in Mexico, but am so sorry to hear about Cooki. You've just got to remember that you did the kindest thing for him. I've had / got cats of my own, and I know how terrible this situation is. Just think that now he is at peace.
Love

Dougie is just fine, alittle under the weather with his tummy sometimes but otherwise fine. I think your Cooki was in better shape than my dougie-he will be fortunate to live another 2 years.
THe first time I went to Amsterdam was a long time ago-I was just 21 I think, and now I'm 37. It was the first time I ever smpked you know what there and it really packed a wallop-the stuff was that good (and strong!). I hallucinated over my bedspread-it had polka dots and those dots were doing all kinds of crazy things. Anyway, that was the last time, believe it or not-didn't agree with me or not my thing, though I absolutely love Amsterdam! There are all these enlightened men carrying babies in a sling, close to their chests on the streets, or I would see many men bottle-feeding their babies as I passed by their windows-very endearing. MAde me long to see my own man doing the same. Well, we shall see. Perhaps I may have a bit of luck this year in an otherwise rather difficult year (not just because of Dougie). Hope you are feeling alright about Cooki, you gave her a wonderful, long life. It's all a beautiful cat could want, isn't it?
We went back to Amsterdam 6 months later to do what we had missed , we also went back to the place to see where we got THE STUFF!!!!! anyway we descoverd that it took us 5 hours to visit what we could have done in 5 mins !!!! I remember ordering a round of water and then we said the same again!!! the bar man obviously new what we had done ! the ages ranged from 32 to 56 so we wernt all young idots , it also took us about an hour just to get out of the hotel cause every time we wanted to get into the lift without anyone as we didnt want anyone to know we were stoned as paranoya had set in a person would join us so we would all get out and wait for the next on to come up!!! what a laugh we had .
