Hi Fiona

I don't think we've spoken before, I used to post quite regularly on the 'old' board but don't seem to get round to posting much these days, although I do still try and read everyone else's.

I've just read on another thread that you are considering travelling back to Manchester from your holiday if you need to have blood tests done. I just wanted to let you know that I had a similar situation to yours last year and had to have blood taken on the 4th day of my holiday on Dartmoor. I didn't have to travel home though, my consultant gave me empty viles which were bar coded with my details on and also a slip of paper saying exactly what I was being tested for. He then advised me to take this on holiday and try and find either a health centre or A&E department whilst I was there and ask them if they would mind taking the blood samples.

As luck would have it there was a tiny village hospital near to where we were staying. I just turned up there on the day and spoke to the head nurse and explained that I needed to have a blood test done for fertility treatment. They were more than happy to oblige and said that they often get people popping in from various parts of the country for exactly the same thing. They were so lovely and filled up my 2 viles for me which I popped into a jiffy bag and posted back first class to my own hospital (remember to take the full address with you). It saved so much hassle as you can imagine.

I hope this makes sense and hope you don't mind me butting in, I just wanted to save you an unecessary trek back to Manchester if you can help it.

Good luck and have a nice holiday.
Julie x

Hi Julie,

Thanks so much for the hint and don't worry about butting in - we're here to help each other as well as get help, aren't we.

It sounds like an ideal solution except for the fact I've a feeling that day 21 (the tests before starting down-regging) is blood test and scan and I'm guessing the clinic might not accept scan results from elsewhere even if we were able to find somewhere - pity.

So I guess we pray for af tomorrow (or a week late would be OK) or live with what happens.

Still, definitely useful for everyone to know that it is possible and someone can make use of the advice (especially as we will be loosing all the old posts soon).

Welcome to the new site - where are you up to in your treatment? Weren't you starting a cycle early July? Hope everything is going well for you.

Take Care,

Lots of Love

Fiona

Hi Fiona

Thanks for your reply, it would be a shame if you have to interrupt your holiday, but needs must and I'm sure that anyone of us would go to the ends of the earth and back if we thought it would get us what we desire so much.

You're right I did start another cycle last month (my 5th or 6th if you count 1 FET aswell). Everything is going to plan and I am scheduled for EC on 19th Aug and ET on 21st. I'm feeling OK at the moment, not stressing too much and not really thinking about the outcome. To be honest I feel like I'm just going through the motions this time as I've had so many disappointments in the past, I've not posted about it either because it feels like it's happening to someone else and I'm just a spectator. Wierd I know but it seems to be my way of dealing with it this time round (I've tried relaxation, reflexology and positive thinking in the past, all to no avail). By the time the 2ww comes though I'm pretty sure I'll be climbing the walls and doing the knicker checking thing every 5 minutes.

I hope AF arrives pretty soon for you, I know how frustrating it can be when it's late (mine was 56 days once!), perhaps Tee and some other others will do the AF dance for you, it worked for me once.

I also hope you're able to relax on holiday and have a good time.
Bye for now.
Julie x

Hi Julie, Fi and Jules,

No sign of af - although getting fair share of pains in last few days, making me think just around the corner. My God, 56 days must have been a killer. I've only had one unusual length of 38 about 4 years ago, but I guess the drugs really send your body up the shoot.

We've thought a lot about your message over the weekend, Julie, and dh has phoned MFS to check whether we could pay a clinic in Bath/Bristol just to do day 21 checks - MFS will accept this but it is up to us to arrange it. So 60 miles is much better than having to travel over 300 and back!

Doing feasibility study later on, and will let you know how get on.

I'll be thinking about you next week Julie - good luck and I think you're totally right to just be on auto-pilot and not get too stressed.

Love to everyone

Fiona xx

Yippee - af is here !!!

Only a week late, so suppose can't complain too much. Who'd av thought would be celebrating - has anyone else deliberated on the irony of af being the start and 'bad' end to the treatment or is it just me being my sad-IT-geek-self again?

So day 1 is tomorrow, which means I might be able to swing day '21' as being Saturday (as period length this time is 35, and don't they normally start on day 21 for a 28 day-ish period? Well, I can talk to the clinic at my day 2 bloodtest on Saturday providing all now goes to plan.)

It now may be cheaper than what the Bristol hospital plan to charge to come back Wednesday night from Somerset (having spent from Friday before) and spend a couple of nights at a b&b in the Lakes to finish off hols!

Sorry, rambling cos a bit excited starting things off again.

Take care everyone. Speak soon

Fiona

Hi everyone

Haven't tapped for a few days as have been so busy at work. glad to hear AF finally arrived for you Fiona – I was in the very same situation last weekend and went into slight panic, as AF was supposed to come on Friday but I had to sweat it out all weekend until it finally appeared on Monday morning. That would have usually been such a bummer but was very welcome for a change! (I was thinking exactly the same as you about the irony of AF being so unwelcome or welcome depending on where you are in the whole cycle, so you're not alone on that one!)

Anyway I was so relieved like you that I can now start sniffing on day 21, as it would've thrown my carefully arranged time off work completely out. My clinic counts the first day of your bleed as day 1? So I start on 1 Sept with ec down for 30 Sept. (Think this is later than you, but not sure why?)

Whats happening with you other Fi?

Good luck to everyone on 2ww

LOL Jules x
