shellie,
wow! 4 years later huh?! thats what my family and friends keep telling us - 'what if u love it there and stay forever' but we're like, nah, we love australia but hey, u never know - just look at you!
i live in mt.ridley, melbourne - about 40mins from the city (northern suburbs) where did u live?

im telling u, the pound thing was killing us - we've been to NI twice now in the last couple of years and we did convert all the time - we were having heart pulpitations each time!! but thats what we intend to do if all works out is to earn pounds asap

did u have problems using their system over there for treatment? i've emailed 2 ivf clinics in belfast (the only 2 according to the net in NI - dont know how right that is?) asking them my eligibility seeing as i wasnt born there but have had no reply - are they usually run privately? we would rather pay than be put on any waiting list or anything.

hey, weird how they wont tell u the sex of the babies! its totally your choice here, in any hospital! but it'll be a nice suprise anyways!

thanks again shellie :D

Hi Danica,

My family home (mum and dads) is in knoxfield (Melbourne), near the bottom of the Dandenong mountains. Before I came over here I was living in Thornbury. That was much easier as I was working in Collins Street, Melbourne.

I still love Australia and british people ask me why I would stay in a place like this. But as they say, the grass is always greener on the other side! It is totally different here, the winters are a bit of a novelty. I love watching out the window to see it snowing. The plan is one day we will head back to Oz. At least when we do we will be able to afford to buy a house for cash because of the exchange!! Thinking like that always helps!

We went back at christmas for a month and went to Port Douglas for a week. It was lovely, sipping cocktails by the pool lazing in the sun. We try and head back every 2nd year and my family come over here the other years. I soon learnt not to use BT when calling home because you get a huge bill (>£100!). You can get some good deals on international calls so let me know when you are here and I can give you some tips.

We did our IVF privately while we were on the NHS waiting list. There is sometimes still a wait to do it privately and you do have to be eligible. I was due to the medical reasons so you should be too. You might have to have the infertility tests here though. Make sure you bring over any notes on infertility tests you have had in Oz, maybe you can use them - but I'm not sure.

When are you thinking of coming over here? From experience I can tell you the first winter will be hell. I found it painfully cold, you know when it hurts inside your bones. The following winters were no where near as bad.

shellie,

wow, thornbury! thats just up st georges rd - bout 1/2hr away!
i cant wait to get to NI - hey, we'll be neighbours - its not that far is it? where r u in scotland? im nervous but very excited at the same time about leaving! we were going to go there as soon as christmas but we are in a bridal party in january, plus my sister and her family (who live in qld) are coming down for 3 weeks and staying with us so probably mid feb now.

ooo i cant wait to look out the window and see snow - how romantic! we've always wanted a 'white christmas' coz thats what we've grown up with - kinda - what with australia getting lots of american shows and stuff (eek)... the winters i've heard are a killer! we went to england last year and it was freezing!! but it was only in sept so i cant even imagine how much colder it could get!! we'll be in shock im sure - especially coming from an aussie summer

my irish family came here in summer when we were having a heatwave of 40 degrees everyday - it was a laugh - they thought they were going to die the sweat was literally dripping off them, then we took them to qld where its humid++ hehehe

port douglas - thats one place i'd luv to visit - sipping cocktails by the pool... ahhhh i could get used to that!
do you guys not have phone cards? theyre about $10 from a newsagent but then only cost 1c per minute max?

re the ivf - eligible as in i have problems conceiving rite? so that means my nationality doesnt matter? whats NHS? i have a whole history with my gynae and a rundown on the surgery i had and i guess will be having so hopefully thats evidence enough - i hate going through all those tests, im a big sook :(

well, thanks for all your tips, i cant wait to hear from u again!
:D
