Any non 1st time positive results

Post by sophiejane »

Hi all,
Congratulations to all of you, you must all be so excited to be over this side.
I'm trying to go through all your threads to try and get some encouragement and PMA to show me that this cycle of IVF will work. However it seems that so many of you have been pregnant first time round. I have never been pg before and now feeling that if ivf is going to work, it works first time.
For those of you who ivf has worked for on their 2nd, 3rd or 4th go I would so like to hear from you. I need some stories that will keep me going.

Hi SophieJ,

All I can say is keeping a positive attitude really helps, even if just to keep you sane. This was our first attempt at IVF and now we are having twins! I have learnt from this site it is a bit like a lotto draw, hopefully you'll be a winner this time.

Each day I imagined the eggs growing inside me and after egg replacement I imagined the fertilised eggs attaching themselves and growing inside me. I spent a good 10 minutes deep breathing imagining the fresh air was passing over my embies and giving them good vibes. I'm usually not one to go for that sort of mumbo jumbo but it did make me feel as if I was giving them the best start.

How far along are you in your treatment? Have you given up alcohol, caffeine etc? I hope all goes well for you.

Sophie:

My very good friends were successful on their 5th cycle of IVF. After 4 failed treatments in a Chicago-area clinic they Dr. told them to try a different place (it was in Colorado) because maybe a degree in temperature or another drop of solution in the lab would make a difference for them in another clinic. So they went to Colorado and came home with baby Trevor in her tummy. It was also the first time she had embryos go to blast for a 5 day transfer, so something was working differently for that cycle. (although I'm currently 16 weeks and I had a day 3 xfer, so going to blast wouldn't have made a difference for me.)

I wish you luck and I hope you find inspiration.

Sophie-J,

I met a woman who had done 3 full IVF cycles and numerous FETs at the clinic I went to. All had failed. Then she switched to another clinic and got pregnant with twins on her first go. So as Paige says, sometimes a very small change in the way a clinic or a doctor does things can make the difference.

Also, sometimes I think a little change in diet or lifestyle can help. It is not only the egg quality but also the hormone levels that must be absolutely correct. Have you had your thyroid levels checked? I take thyroid medication, so I have them checked right before each tmt and every six weeks now that I am pregnant.

Good luck to you. I do so hope this will be the one for you.

Hi Sophie Jane

Try to keep positive! I don't have a happy sucessful pg story for you but I am heading into my 6th attempt hopefully before Christmas. My treatment worked last time but I miscarried at 5 1/2 weeks. Before that I felt very like you do, now I'm full of hope again.

Its a lottery whatever attempt you are on, I found that on my last attempt I was more positive and more relaxed than I have been before and hopefully thats what made the difference.

On a different note I did read a magazine artocle that said IVF is more likely to work in the summer months as people are generally happier, who knows!

Wishing you lots of luck.

Hi there
Ours didn't work 1 st time (VERY common- so please don't think that if its going to work it will only work first time - that rubbish - really!! :) )
After being told that our chances were almost non exisistant it did work second time (well I'm 29 weeks pregnant!) - I actually think we were more prepared for it second time and our expectations were more realistic and we didn't get AS stressed about it (well a bit stressed!!) - but I think we were generally better set up for it and thats maybe why it worked. I didn't go mad with no drinking / chinese herbs / reflexology etc like I did first time - and I think that meant I was a bit less stressy about the whole thing - which maybe helped??
At the end of the day its a lottery - your time will come and you just have to keep pluggin away - and try not to stress to much, easier said than done i know

Good luck!!

Hi Sophie-J,

Kepp your pecker up girl! I've had 3 full IVF attempts - long and short protocol. First time, no go. Second time +, but lost the baby, third time, lots of probs but a very happy outcome with almost 9 month old wee Sam sleeping in the next room! :)

I was told 3 or 4 attempts was average....hope all goes well for you

Thank you all for your replies ..... I must say I am more relaxed this time round .. well as relaxed as anyone can be going through ivf. i just get these paranoid moments that its never going to work but with ec in two days time I am putting all negative thoughts behind me .... so I will be joining this side soon.
Thanks again
