Cate:

I will take a prental vitamin with 1000 mg of folate throughout the entire pregnancy. I did this the first time too.

I'm not sure about the vitamins C & E, but I do know they are already included in the prenatal tablet. I would talk to the Dr. about the negative effects of maybe getting to much of something as a result of taking additional C & E on top of the prenatal vitamin.

Good luck.

Just rang the hospital I said I will join in the trial they said it isn't a very high dose of vitamins and you have to keep a food diary for some of the time so probably not a bad thing as might make me eat a little more healthly!! It will probably turn out to be all my own fault and I should have been a complete carnivore!
Apparently there is geletine in them but I mentioned the vegetarian bit and they will sort it, they must be in capsule form. The midwife was also very lovely so I asked lots of questions about the amnio. My friend who rang last night said ask the name etc so I did she told me and said there are three people who do them often and there is nothing to chose between them as all good so fingers crossed.
Hope all going well with you I have started telling people now mostly because showing 12 weeks scan picture in school yard and it's surprising how nosey people are around and just wondered what it was !!!!! I was amazed how many people were thrilled for me several to the point of tears I must have been looking like a desperate woman!!! Cate x

OH my gosh. I need to start keeping a food diary. I am officially out of control with Halloween candy. Thank goodness the gestational diabetes test isn't until around 20 weeks, I would have blown it this week. My food diary since Halloween would read: Snickers, Reese's peanut butter cup, M&M's, let's not forget the Baby Ruth. I need to get back on track. This is probably part of the reason my 4 1/2 yr old was 10 lbs 8.5 oz at birth. She was born in January, so I had Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas to fatten her up!
My neighbor who is a vegetarian is due in January, and we were out to dinner and she kept eyeing my filet mignon. I asked her if she wanted a bite and she was really craving it so she had a bite...and then proceeded to feel sick for the rest of the evening! Her body must have been craving some protein! We're still laughing at it, as it was the first meat she's had in 14 years.
So I gather that you are teacher? What good timing to have your baby in May and then have the summer off if that is the case.

Take Care,

Paige

I like your food diary contents being sweet based! strangely mine would be quite sweet based even without Halloween I've been on more liquoirce than usual and also lemon curd which you spread on toast I haven't eaten it for about twenty five years but found myself strangley drawn to it in Tesco, and one night even did without the toast!
about your neighbour eyeing up your steak I came close to eating a tuna sandwich at a childs birthday party which is madness for me obviously!
It's a mad thing pregnancy.
I'm not a teacher by the way a lot of my friends are though and I have helped a lot (voluntary) in school and also used to help run a Parent and Toddler group when Jessie was little the school yard bits etc are picking Jess our daughter(10) up and also taking my friends children to school.
I used to work for the council until I had Jess but then retired on medical grounds as I have Rheumatoid Arthritis which took a turn for the worse after Jess was born it's all to to with immunity and once again it has gone away in this pregnancy I've gone from taking 11 tablets a day to just the folic acid and asprin! Amazing isn't it theres a cure in there somewhere Cate xxx

Cate,

I was a vegetarian too  I say "was" because the book I have on twins (by Dr. Luke) says to eat a ton of food and gain at least 50 lbs. Actually I think it's 60-65 (4.5 stone?) for me since I was skinny before and it was IVF/FET. It says to eat red meat 2 times a day! I was horrified! But I do try to eat it a couple times a week.

I know you can get away with staying vegetarian with twins if you eat very healthy foods. I do eat very well for dinner. But lunch and snacks are hard, since I work in a boutique and I have to stay there all day, so I'm afraid it's all trail mix and frozen dinners.

I am still very squeamish about meat. The less it looks/feels like an animal the better I do. So hamburgers, gyros and chicken tenders seem okay. But steak, chicken on the bone and ribs are definately out.
