even longer wait

Post by michelle_in_scotland »

Hi girls,
I've been away from the boards for a while, been very busy at work, but i've just been made redundant due to the shop closing down, so i'm now back to square one of looking for jobs again.

My update - last time i was here i was saying the consultant last year told us we would be starting treatment during the summer of this year, well, summer came and went and we didn't hear anything, so last month i got DH to phone and find out what's going on, he couldn't get through so left a message and we still haven't had any return phone calls, letters or anything. So yesterday the wait really got to me and i found an email address (i really hate making phone calls, so thought this would be great). I wrote in the email exactly what the consultant told us last year and asked if they had any idea how much longer we would have to wait.
I got a reply this morning and it definately wasn't what i wanted to hear, it said "The waiting list for Dumfries is approx 20 months at present. You should be sent a screening appointment for January"
I feel pretty gutted that we have to wait even longer and to top it off AF started today so i feel real bad.

Anyways, just thought i'd let you know.
A big congrats to all the latest BFPs and to everyone else i wish you good luck.
Take care,
Lotsa love

Michelle

Be positive

Post by louiser »

Hi Michelle
Sorry to hear you have to wait so long but look on the positive side. At least you can get it on the NHS. A lot of girls on this site have to pay £3-4000 per go and have to struggle to find the money, or worse, have to give up their dreams because they can't get any more money.
Good luck with your treatment.

Hi, thanx for the replies.
Now that i've kinda calmed down and thought about it, Kate you are right, we are now just concentrating on looking forward to christmas and new year and hopefully have an excellent time, feed ourselves stupid with all the christmas goodies and drink, drink, drink, lol without any stress of treatment and drugs etc and then it should just be a matter of weeks til we get the appointment.

Louise, i know what you mean about us being lucky to get it on the NHS but that's really no consolation and it is extremely hard to remain positive seeing as we've been waiting for nearly 4 years and the stress of waiting and not knowing when or even if we'll get started really affected my state of mind, it put me into a deep depression last year which i have finally managed to crawl out of, so yes in a way we are very lucky not having to worry about the money to pay for treatment but we also have the pressure of waiting months or even years to get appointments and get told you'll be starting one year only to find out later on that's not the case and it will be the following year, so it's not really plain sailing for NHS patients.

Take care and good luck to everyone,
Lotsa love

Hi Michelle,

I think it is ridiculous that you have to wait such a long time!

Is there not another hospital in your enviroment?
Maybe ask your own docter if he knows a solution!
To keep people waiting this long... I'm really sorry for you!

Do you have to pay it yourself? Or is there an insurance for you?
If you have to pay yourself then search for another hospital or clinique!

good luck

Hi Alette,
We will be getting NHS treatment which means we don't pay for it and this is at the hospital that is closest to us that deal with patients from my area (it's almost 2 hours drive away). Only one good thing is we were told we would get 3 free goes at treatment but the stress of waiting is really hard.
Last year when we were told we would be starting this summer i was in two minds whether or not to go ahead with making our wedding plans as i thought we would be starting treatment, the girls here told me i shouldn't put my life on hold waiting, i took their advice, went ahead and made wedding plans, set a date and we got married in May, i'm so glad i listened to them as i wouldn't have got married just in case treatment was going to start and we would have to be there.
It's not long until my appointment will be through now ... another 2 months of waiting then hopefully we'll be starting soon after that.
Take care and good luck to you too.
Lotsa love

Michelle
