Hello to everyone

I am a bit scared of writing on this forum but I thought I would have a go anyway, please can anyone help??

Two years ago this month my H and I started 'trying' then it seemed magical and we thought it would work straight off. However two years later I know I have PCOS and my H has a slightly low sperm count!!

I have been on Clomid since last December and although I have ovulated a few times they have tested I am not pregnant. I now have to go and have Ovarian drilling on the 4th of October and am really scared becuase I fell that if this doesnt work I will feel even more depressed... I read on this site that the procedure can cause scarring of the tubes and worst off ovarian failure..is it worth it??

The next step the doctor has said is that after OD we can try IUI, does anyone know how successful that is??

Feeling really anxious and worried I will never be a Mum...sorry to be depressing but needed to get some help as I feel very sad...Catkin

Hi Catkin

I'm glad you have found this site. It is a real help in getting you through all infertility problems - there always seems to be someone who understands and has been or is going through the same thing as you.
We all have sad days wondering if we will ever be given the gift of a child. Most of the ladies here are very determinded and whilst the procudures are difficult both emotionally and phsyically we all seem to get through it.
My advice to you is to start reading up about about PCOS and treatments for infertility, it's all so scary when you don't really understand what is going on. I found it a great help to understand how my body works and how to improve my chances of becoming pregnant.
My own experience of IUI is that it was a waste of time and I wished i had not wasted the money on it. IVF has a higher sucsess rate.
But it can work for some people.
What you have to remember is that alot of normal fertile couples can take up to 2 years to become pregnant you just have to be patient and try to be positive about your treatment.
I have had 5 attempts at IVF / ICSI and have been trying to have a baby for the past 4 years, but I have not given up hope becuase there always seems to be someone on this site that gets pregnant after going through all sorts of problems, that I think that it has got to w
HOSfor me one day!
Best of luck
Lucyx

Hi Catkin,

I am so sorry that you are feeling so down, please don't give up hope. I agree with Lucy, you should find out as much as you can about PCOS for you to understand your situation better. I suggest searching the interenet, it is such a great source of information.
If you are on clomid, that should help you to ovulate regularly, however I do know that clomid can dry up your CM, and it is better to have IUI's when taking clomid as it bypasses this problem. I have been pregnant before with IUI and clomid, so it does work!!!!

Please don't give up hope, there are many options out there for you and I have heard of many women with PCOS who have gone on to have healthy babies.

Take care and good luck
Lisa

I think I can safely say that everyone on this site knows what you're feeling.

I too have PCOS and was put on Metformin, which seem to make me regular for once in my life, which hopefully meant I was ovulating each month. I obviously don't know all your history, but I wondered if this had been mentioned to you at all as an option.

We had to pursue ICSI anyway as we later found out that there was a sperm problem as well, but I'm still taking it as they think that it may lower the risk of miscarriage in women with PCOS.

Hang in there (says me, on the verge of a nervous breakdown!)
Nicola
TTC 8 yrs. Me 35, DH 52. 1st IVF eggs didn't fertilise, sperm couldn't get through shell. 2nd & 3rd ICSI got embryos but -ve. 1st FET +ve with twins, '1 disappeared' at 9 wks. One baby due 9th April.

Hi Catkin,
My husband said that your message sounded like I could have written it. I have PCOS and my husband is normal, but because we haven't become pregnant, we have now been classified as 'unexplained'.
In February I had ovarian drilling. Please dont worry about that, its not painful and I felt like I had been dragged through a bush backwards for a week (reacted badly to the anaesthetic). Afterwards, blood tests showed that I was ovulating, so they left us for 4 months whilst taking clomid (I have been taking clomid for 15 months). We are now having IUI. The first month when we could have started treatment the embryologist was on holiday. The second month I over responded to the drugs and produced 5 large follicles (apparrently they only proceed with no more than 3). This month we didnt take clomid and just had all the injections, I only produced 1 follicle. So we had our first IUI 3 days ago and are now waiting until we can test. We are both finding it very stressful. Apparently we have been told that the success rate for IUI is about 25% and increases with the number of cycles you have. I am being told not to worry or think about becoming pregnant and it will probably happen, people are well meaning but sometimes it just makes me feel worse. My husband has been great and I dont know how he puts up with my crying every month when we know that nothing has happened.
I hope that everything goes well for you.
Take care
Cazza
