Having seen Dee's message on the 'other side', thought it sounded a good idea to start a posting where everyone can give a brief history plus updates on where we're upto, so I'll start this one. My dh had mumps at about 9yr old and has 90% abnormal sperm. We have had 5 donor IUI and 2 more donor IUI with induction of ovulation cycles in 2001 which were all unsuccessful. Our first ICSI cycle (dh sperm) failed in July 2002 after 2 embies put back, and I hope to be back cycling late August. I supposedly have no 'fertility complications', so always hopeful. We're having treatment at MFS in M/cr. Welcome to the new site all who post here. lol Fiona

Hi, This is a really good idea! I'm a relatively new girl -I posted messages a couple of times on the other board as "jacqueline" but now I've had to register I was able to think of a less formal name!! We have "male factor" infertility and are waiting for a funding decision at the moment. Our health authority will pay for 2 attempts at IVF - which is the good news, the bad news is that the waiting list is 18 months long and we are only allowed to pay for 1 treatment ourselves in the meantime otherwise we are not allowed ANY NHS funding! - Apparently our health authority thinks that if you can afford to pay for 2 or more treatments you are rich enough to pay for all your treatments!! We are hoping to get the money together to have a go in January (as I also want to lose some weight before attempting IVF) - but is such a long time to wait especially as we've already been trying 5 years....so after reading the postings on acupuncture I did a little research and found that it can also work for low sperm etc and I have convinced dh to see an acupuncturist - he is going next Tuesday although he is somewhat worried about where the needles will be put! Hi all, This is the third roll call I've been on, which doesn't say much for me does it? Hub and me are 31, and we've both got our share of problems. I have fairly severe endometriosis, adhesions, and only one and two/thirds ovaries, and he has low motility, (between 35% and 55%) and fairly high abnormality (85%). We've been trying for nearly 4 years, never got close. Had 2 ICSI so far this year, and I'm still here, posting on this site. Blimey. Tried the Foresight diet for 8 months, but back on the booze and choc again, (a girl has to have SOMETHING to live for), next crazy scheme is acupuncture. Watch this space, but don't hold your breath. Been off this site for a while, all too much, but back to my crutch again. Love Tee xxx

Hi Like Tee I am another case who has been here a while now and this has got to be at least the third roll call. Me 34 Husband 32 1 x IUI 5 X ICSI All failed. Husband has low sperm count but as yet they have not found anything wrong with me. A few lumps and bumps removed from my ovaries but has not caused a problem becasue I respond well to the drugs. Given up on it all for the moment and am seeing a Chinese Doctor (Doctor Zhai) who is a specialist in infertility and has some good results. I am having acupuncture and Chinese herbs (more like bits of stick) I feel that she has given me back some hope and I wish I had gone to see her before getting this far on the IVF rollercoaster. Hi Like some other this is my 2nd or 3rd roll call, found this site in March at the begining for our first ICSI. Me 30, DH 35 male factor infertility. 1st ICSI April 2002 failed 2nd ICSI NOW!!!!! had EC yesterday and ET tomorrow!!!!! This site has been a real life line at time. Good luck to all on here. me - 29 & 3/4!! hubbie 33yrs old 4 yrs investigations 1 X miscarriage 1 X ICSI April about to go for number 2 cycle ICSI... hi all, been away on holiday away from thinking of anything remotely to do with babies/treatment......GREAT!! reading all your histories makes me think might just be at the beginning of the rollercoaster, don't know if have the strength to go through loads of attempts....??? awaiting af like the other fiona and if we are cycling at same time could be confusing. tee- followed your last horrendous journey through the site....hope that the days going by make it easier, if there is a god lets hope he's around in October for you....!!! thinking of you all, Jules good luck for sniffing etc HOPE that I get cycle sorted soon!!! arrrgh love Fi

Hi all It's second time round coming up for me, found this site after my first ICSI in June. Me 38, dh 49 Dh went and had a vasectomy in previous marriage

1x ICSI June Starting sniffing 29 August as long as af comes on time tomorrow!! Hi Mandy – the best of luck for tomorrow and keep us posted with how it all goes. Hi Fi – good to hear from you again, glad you had a good break. Keep in touch as we may be cycle buddies yet! LOL Jules x

Seems like everyone's giving ages away so feeling a little left out. Anyway - me 35 (just) and dh 45 (soon) We've been trying for 4 years now. Fi - Good to see you're logged in now and feeling refreshed - it should get less confusing now you've registered as fi not fiona.k. Looking forward to a few of us cycling together. Hi all I'm a long-term IVFer too (found this site last November after 3rd failure). Both me and Dh are 34. Started ttc 8 years ago, after 2 years got pregnant only to suffer a ruptured ectopic at 9 weeks and lost baby and right tube. Got pregnant again 1 year later but unfortunately this was also ectopic and I lost my left tube and baby at 6 weeks. So being tubeless I started IVF about a year later and am currently mid-way through my 5th attempt (6 if you count 1 FET aswell) but no luck so far. Due for EC on 19th Aug and hoping to produce more eggs than the measly 3 I've had on the last 2 attempts. Fingers crossed everyone, I think I need it. Lotsa Luv Julie x

Hi - I've been a regular reader and irregular poster on this site for the last 2 or 3 months. Have had one IVF and one ICSI, both this year and both unsuccessful. The problem is basically on my side - blocked tubes, although last time they "weren't sure" about dh's swimmers, hence the ICSI. We have an appointment at the clinic on Thursday to discuss what happens next. I'm very much in two minds about how soon to try again. When I first found out that the second attempt had failed about 6 weeks ago I was all for trying again asap, but am now wondering whether I should give it a break and start again after Christmas, partly cos I'm starting a new job in a couple of weeks, but mainly to give my body (and mind!) a rest. Hi everyone!! I just found this place a couple of days ago, and I find it really comforting to know that I am not the only person in the world to be going through IVF. I will give you a brief history - Me - 30 Hubby - 33 Male factor problems Started trying for a baby in 1996. Got pregnant in October 1998, only to have a miscarraige at 6 weeks - worst week of my life!! Had my first cycle of IVF in March 1999 - I am glad to say that I now have a beautiful baby boy, who will soon be 3. Although I feel extremely lucky and blessed to have one child, I would still kile another, not only for me, but for my little boy. So, I had a secong attemot of IVF last year, but I was not so lucky this time. I am now at the waiting stage of a 3rd cycle, as I had 2 embryos transferred on 09/08/02. Talk to you all soon. Kate.

Well I thought I had better join in, This is also the third time posting on the roll call. Well here we go:- I am 37 hubby is 38, had natural pregnacy in 1997, m/c at 12 weeks, already only had one viable tube, but after m/c my other tube was nackered. 1st IVF in 1999 didn't work. 2nd IVF in 2000 didn't work. Had 2 frosties put back in 2001 had chemical m/c. 3rd IVF 9 months ago on Tueday the 13th August (bad day to come) IVF worked pegnant with twins but m/c at 8 weeks, no reason for it just the one in three who it happens to. May this year had two frosties put back had chemical m/c. Now on my 4th full IVF (6 if you count the frosties) and have my ET tommorow, I have 8 embryos of class 1 and 2 quality best result so far, and you never know it may work. I go to the Woking Nuffield Hospital (Mr Riddle) and I haven't got a bad word to say about them. Well that's me. Sandra E

Thanks for all the 'welcomes' and feelings of support. I'm 34 and 11/12ths and dh (now I know what it means!) is 33. we have inexplained infertility. tried to conceive for five yrs. IVFs 1 and 2 were bio - chemical (failed) pregnancies. IVF 3 was negative IVF 4 worked..but miscarried at 5 weeks. IVF 5 - just getting to egg collection on tues. may have 5 - 7 eggs, which is about normal for me. having a 'cetorelic' cycle this time - no sniffing and down regulating but straight in with gonal f and then a cetorelic drug to prevent their early release. late night hcg tonight. good luck everyone. we're not alone. love liz x

Well I'm probably one of the first people to join this site but have been away for a while. I am 29 (nearly 30) with irregular ovulation and dh is 35 (yesterday) and he has poor sperm motility. We have had two attempts at ICSI a fresh cycle in Aug 2001 (2 eggs put back) and a frozen cycle in Jan 2002 (only one egg), unfortunately neither worked. I had my treatment in Cyprus (hubby is in the RAF)so it was much cheaper than in UK. Have had a long break due to both of us getting chickenpox, me ending up having my gallbladder removed and having just returned to UK (04 Aug). Not sure which way to turn at present. We have discussed trying again (allegedy the third time could be lucky) but need to get settled in, find a clinic (Bath or Bristol) and then see how much it will cost. Hi All Found this site a few weeks ago and it's been a Godsend to me as I'm new to all this. I am 33 (34 in Oct) and DH is 39. We only tried for about 9 months naturally as I was convinced pretty early on that we wouldn't conceive naturally. Ours is male factor problem - low motililty quality etc... DH's brother had exactly the same problem and they had 3 failed ICSI attempts with his sperm and were eventually successful with DI about 4 years ago. With this in the back of our mind, and our age, we decided to investigate things pretty quickly. So this is our first go at ICSI. I haven't spoken to anyone about what's happening so I have been taking in all the advice given on this site. I started sniffing a week a go today and so am at the very early stages of everything. I have a few questions which you guys may be able to answer. Do you have to give up alcohol completely? I had a glass of wine at the weekend (only one!) The nurse didn't mention no alcohol, but I guess she may feel this is obvious! Also, I'm drinking decaf tea and coffee - is this okay? I also wondered if anyone could tell me if the sperm is of very low quality/motility does it reduce the chances of success with ICSI or are the chances exactly the same? Any advice anyone can offer will be greatly appreciated. Good luck you you all!!!! love Tracy
