HI there
yes am on maternity leave - its brilliant !! :-)

No other news from me -glad to hear you are all getting on so well

Feel a bit our of it that I dont have a bugaboo!! I am borrowing my brother's little boys' pram ! Just got overwhelmed by all the choices and so went for the easy option!

Really sorry don't know anything about Strep B - but if your midwife didn't want to check then I am SURE you dont need to worry. I think theres generally weird stuff happening "down there"

As for birth plan - all my mates say its a waste of time !! - not sure I'll bother!

Anyway big X

Hi Bina,

I don't have any personal experience with strep b (had never heard of it until after my baby was born) but remember reading an article about a woman whose baby was stillborn because of it. Apparently if caught there's no problem as you just need a course of antibiotics before the birth. According to the article the test for it costs something like £16, so you'd think that pregnant women would be tested as a matter of course on the nhs.....but there's our health service for you.

So try not to worry, you're having the test so worst case scenario is that you would need a course of antibiotics.

Obviously, hope you don't need to though.

Good luck,

Hi Bina

I was found to be a carrier of Strep B during my pregnancy. I'm surprised that your midwife mentioned it because of your discharge - I understood that there were no symptoms. When I found out that I carried the infection and read all the info around, I was really scared. But actually, finding out that you've got it is the safest thing that can happen for your baby because you can be treated with IV antibiotics during labour. About 25% of the population can be GBS carriers at some time and most will never know that they have it. I think that you're doing the right thing by having the private test because the NHS test is dodgy at diagnosing it.

If you are found to carry it, make sure that your midwife writes it in large print at the top of your notes so that as soon as you go into hospital to have the baby, they know that they need to give you the antibiotics. My two were checked for signs of GBS for 24 hours after they arrived but were absolutely fine.

Good luck with everything.

Hi guys sorry I havent been posting we've been so busy but thats sll changed from today-it was my last day at work I'm now on maternity leave so hopefully I can get xmas sorted out.
We started our antinatal classes last week dh wasnt keen esp the first wek but yesterdays session was alot better for him,Had to have a glucose tolerant test done yesterday just to rule everything out as to why I'm having a big baby and teh results came back normal I was measuring 38weeks and half on weds when I was 35 I've alsways been measuring a few weeks in front so I wasnt worried I'd rather it be big than too small,we still cant believe we are having a baby in 4 weeks aand 5 days everyone thinks i'm going to have it early as i'm so big.
Bina sorry to hear you have been worried hopfully the others have put your mind at rest.
everyone else i will try and catch up esp now i'm on maternity leave

Hi Gem, Jules, Caz etc,
Thanks so much for your advice re GBS; I'm still a bit confused, because I was aware that GBS doesn't show any symptoms, but it is obviously really really dangerous if the baby catches it during labour. So why do some women get tested and some don't? Jules, why did they test you? If I hadn't insisted on it (and it was hard work to get them to agree to test me - on the NHS that is) I still would be none the wiser. Apparently, in the US they screen for it routinely, which sounds logical to me.
Anyway, got the results of the NHS test, which was negative - but then again I read that it's only 50% accurate, so doesn't really mean anything. Now I'm waiting to get the private test back to compare. Fingers crossed.
One more week at work next week, can't wait to finish now - it's getting really tiring and hard work, but it's all worth it in the end, as I'll have more time with our little girl..!
Hope everyone is doing well - sure you are!
Best wishes,
bina

Hi all
Glad to hear that youa re all doing well. Had doctor appointment today -all well. He's given me a "kit" to do as a home tests for Strep B. He says 25% of women have it and its not a problem as long as they know about it. Test costs £16 and he gave it too me without me asking - so I guess he does it as standard. I agree that its weird that some places do it and others don't.
Feel HUGE now- very cumbersome and really struggling to do as much as I'd like to be able to. Feel like I've got 10000000000 things to do -just wish I could relax a bit more!
Joh LEwis stuff arrived yesterday - although half the stuff including the cot was missing. Cot arrive just now and its the wrong one -AM SOOOOOOOOOOOOO angry - the poor woman in the nursery department really got it I'm afraid!

Anyway - no other news really. Is anyone trying any yoga ? I haven't but I'm told its pretty good?? Exercise in general has tailed off pretty dramatically now! I get out of breath just walking up the stairs!

Hi Girls,

Glad everyone is doing well and starting maternity leave. I am a carrier of Strep B and have been told at the first sign of labour to go in to the hospital to start the IV antibiotics (contractions or waters breaking). It was picked up early in my pregnancy because it was in my urine. I was told it is quite normal and a lot of women are carriers and never even realise. It just means they will give the antibiotics during labour so it doesn't pass onto the baby and they will give extra monitoring of the babies when they are born. Really nothing to worry about.

I am now 32 weeks and am measuring 42 weeks!! They estimate the babies to be 4pounds2 each at the moment and are just above average. I am finding it extremely tiring to do anything now. Climbing the stairs is an effort. But I keep reminding myself it will all be worth it in the end.

All our nursery furniture has arrived. DH assembled the cotbeds and it makes the room so much smaller. It does bring it home how close we are to having our babies though. I am getting excited now.

Hope everyone continues on without dramas and enjoy all the christmas shopping!

Hi Ladies,

Glad you are all doing so well, we are all on the final countdowm now. So exciting. I too am having a bigger than average baby and go for another growth scan on Thursday. Had all the tests done i.e. gestational diabetes etc., all results came back normal. Do you all find that baby is still very active, i thought that things would be quietening down a bit now but baby is still lively.
Hope you are all looking forward to christmas & what a new year it will be for us all :D

Take Care :D

Hello only me......... glad you are all well. Thought I would grab some time on here to say happy xmas and check up on you all. Emily is just getting over a cold but is fine and making teletubby screechy noises which she is most pleased with as it gives me and Alice a headache. Alice puts her hands over her ears and Emily just does it louder. They are 4 and a half months and I can't remember life without them - what is rest and relaxation and a magazine or book. Shellie I was around 49 wks equivalent when I went in - hard to imagine now as I am a mere shadow!
They sound great weights already and it's hard work but can't imagine one baby! Not that there is anything wrong with one you all understand - I would have been thrilled as I am sure you all knew whatever the outcome.
I am so excited for you all - you must keep me posted and my email address is on my profile if you need me - not sure what I think you might need me for.
Must dash - washign and tumble drying and dog to sort then walk and feeds and then lunchtime sleep and omg!!!!!!!!! Xmas card writing.
Love to you all
T, E and A

Hi all

Have been reading your posts ref Strep B with interest. I was found to be a carrier in my pregnancy and had written in large yellow letters on the front of my notes that I was to be given the IV antibiotics during labour. Well I had an elective C. Section and guess what, they forgot the antibiotics!

The outcome of this was that Amelia was very sleepy and would not feed during day one. Day two she briefly stopped breathing and then spent 6 days in special care recieving antibitics via an IV inserted into her tiny hand. She also had to undergo repeated blood tests and have her heels pricked 4 times a day. As you can probably tell I am still feeling raw and bitter over this.
Fortunately she responded very well and is absolutely fine!
Those of you that are carriers, be very insistent that you recieve the right antibitics BEFORE the birth of your beloved babies.

Take care all of you

much love
Lorraine & Amelia

Hello ladies

Hope you are all well and not suffering too much from Christmas stress. I have decided this is not a great time of year to be heavily pregnant, particularly if you already have children. You still have to do the round of nativity plays, carol concerts, school functions etc which normally I love but this year they are exhausting.

My children broke up from school last Friday so I have spent most of this week entertaining them and trying to fit in some shopping without them moaning too much. Friends have been very good at taking them off my hands for a few hours and I should lie down but there are cards to write, presents to wrap etc. etc.

Moan over. I am not doing anything towards the Xmas lunch so can't complain there. My ex is then having the kids for a few days after Xmas so I can rest then.

Went to the hospital today for another scan. My placenta is over my caesarian scar so if it doesn't come away easily I may have to have a hysterectomy. What a joy the last 8 months have been! They told me something similar last time and I was fine (obviously) so I am quite relaxed about it.

I also have to go back on New Year's Eve for another scan as they may bring the planned section forward. It's the only thing in my diary for that date!!

Has everyone packed their bags? I think I will do mine in the next few days but as I will be in for a while I think it will have to be a large suitcase!!!

Off to do some more wrapping and hoping for a good night's sleep.

Love Fiona

Hello all,

I hope you all had a wonderful christmas. I am exhausted now so I did little to contribute to the festivities, but managed christmas lunch with some good friends of ours. To my surprise I had a lot of fun and forgot how uncomfortable i was for a while. I even had a small glass of wine!

Nothing planned for new years eve, maybe watch tv from my bed. Hips and pelvis really bad now and can hardly walk by the time the evenings come. Looking forward to seeing these babies. Had consultant appointment today and everything is well at 34 weeks 4 days. No sign of dilation so I shall keep hanging on in anticipation.

Happy New Year everyone and good luck with the upcoming births.
