Very early arrival of Matilda Grace

Post by Fiona L »

This baby has been difficult from day one so her delivery was never going to be straightforward!!!

Last Tuesday night at around 9.30 I felt a sudden gush of liquid which I assumed was because I hadn't done enough pelvic floor exercises!! On closer inspection I discovered it was blood. I rang DP who was on his way back from Gatwick having done a round trip to Switzerland. He had insisted on coming back that night, thank God, although I had told him to stay over. He arrived in a minute and we dropped my sleepy children off at my mothers and belted down the motorway to Oxford, setting off at least one speed camera.

The hospital were fab. They examined me and concluded my waters had broken. We spent the night there, with DP sleeping on a mattress on the floor, and jumped the queue the next morning for a section.

Matilda (Tilly) Grace was born at 9.30am on Wednesday 22nd weighing 4lb 4 and a half ounces. Amazingly, she didn't need to go to Special Care. She may be tiny but she's a strong little thing. She has a slight heart murmur due to a small hole between the ventricles but this should heal itself in the next 6 months.

The hospital discharged us at lunchtime on Christmas Day and we came home with the best Christmas present ever.

I am feeling pretty tired as she sleeps non-stop during the day but is awake in the night! Standard behaviour for a baby!

I hope you all had a good Christmas and I wish you a fantastic New Year with your babies.

Love Fiona

Congatulations Fiona, my love and best wishes to you all.

Matilda was my grandmothers name, her birthday was the 22nd of Dec - as is mine. I was her first grandchild, she was the first to hold me. Your post brings me many happy memories!

Enjoy your new daughter
much love
Lorraine.

Thank you all for your kind wishes. They brought tears to my eyes - tho I am doing a lot of crying at the moment. I thought the hormones might have settled down by now.

Matilda was exactly 36 weeks when she was born. We had a week at home just the 3 of us which was very relaxing and peaceful. We got to know her and her funny expressions. Then my children came back from staying with their father. Since then life has been much harder work. They adore her and want to be involved with everything, particularly my 6 year old daughter but it is hard work juggling their needs with a little baby. They went back to school today so things should get easier. I am very tired but still ecstatic!

Lorraine - what an amazing coincidence. The 22nd is obviously a magical date.

Everyone else - hurry up and join the sleepless nights club!!!!!!!

Fiona,

CONGRATULATIONS!!! SO happy to hear your news, and what a lovely name! Sorry to write so late - we have been away. I've been following your story since you had some testing scares early on and we have as well. So you must be especially thrilled to have her with you and healthy.

Dear Fiona

Many, many, many CONGRATULATIONS on the birth of your daughter Matilda Grace. You must be so relieved. You have had a very stressfull pregnancy so I am so glad all is well.

I hope she continues to thrive and the hole in her ventrical manages to repair its self.

What a wonderful Christmas you and your family must have had. Such fantastic news.

Much love Dagny xkx
