repeat IVF after successful IVF pregnancy

Post by charlottebenson »

Hi there
I am new to the boards. I had IVF 2yrs ago ( 2 fresh, 1 frozen cycle) and had a successful pregnancy resulting in a lovely boy,now 14months. I am now considering trying it again as would love another child. My husband is not so keen and probably remembers better than me what a stressful experience it all was ( and expensive!). Is anyone in the same boat, or have any thoughts?
Good luck to everyone

Hi Charlotte, welcome to the board.

I was in your shoes last year. I have a 19m old daughter from our 1st ivf attempt in 2002. Since then, sadly, we've only had fails BUT I would say the chance of success has been worth every ounce of stress. Having one baby doesn't make the urge to have another any less than wanting the first. Your husband is undoubtedly thinking primarily of you, the drugs, injections and scans are no fun and as for the expense.....yes it's an issue, but sod it, what's money for???

I'm glad you've joined us. Happy New Year.
Debra.
Me: 44, DH: 31
Game Over.
Dates: Aug 02 - May 06
Tries: 5 fresh + 4 frozen.
Results: 1 daughter, 2 m/c, 1 ectopic.

Hi Charlotte

You're perfectly normal to want another baby - people who don't have problems conceiving just go off and have another baby if they want one so why shouldn't we be the same?

We've been ttc baby number 3 (we have twins from our first ICSI cycle) for the last 2 years without success. We've been back seeing our consultant since September and will probably be going through another ICSI cycle in the New Year.

I know that we were really lucky and didn't find our first ICSI too stressful, partly because it was such a relief to be actually doing something rather than having yet another test after over 3 years of tests. And I'm sure that it will be more stressful looking after two children and going through the process. As far as the money situation goes, we'll use up all the spare cash that we have if we do it so there's no way that we could have more than one cycle. And I think that my biggest worry is what we'll do if this one cycle doesn't work. We're very lucky to have two gorgeous children but our family is not complete in the way that we planned 8 years ago.

So no, you're not the only one who feels like this. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Hi Charlotte,
You are not the only one to feel like this I have 18 month old twins and we had another go when they were 14 months. Sadly this time it failed I said at the time that was the last cycle as it was my 5th, however I have just made a follow up appointment to see the clinic with a view to having another go. I figure if I could conceive naturally I would have at least one more so the fact we need help doesn't make the desire go away.
If you do decide to go ahead everyone here is so supportive it really helps.

Hiya Charlotte
I agree with everyone.
I have a 9month old daughter conceived on our 2nd ivf attempt. I am off to the docs tonight to ask to be referred for another go. I feel like Jules though - we have only enough savings for 1 go and I dont know how I will feel if it doesnt work.
According to my dh I was hormonally horrendous more on the 2nd attempt but I didnt think I was.
Good luck.
