Is it OK to dye (I use semi-permanent) your hair when you are pregnant? I have got it in my head somehow that you are not supposed to, but that doesn't really make sense to me, when I think that it shouldn't negatively affect the baby...Anyway, your help with this much appreciated. (the grey hairs are starting to pop through and I would like to look nice considering how long its taken me to get here!)
I'm still at the salon every 6 weeks for a permanant color and highlights! I have a grey streak that if I let it grow out I'd look like Cruella Deville from 101 Dalmations! My Dr. says it's fine. I colored all through my first pregnancy as well. I think they do want you to avoid smelling the fumes as much as possible though.
Hi Elizabeth, I've seen this question before and I think most people agree they carry on as normal. I've just double checked in my 2002 copy of 'What to expect when you're expecting' (great for a factual reference guide but won't make you lol much) and they say it's only extremely prudent doctors that might say this. BUT they do say that hormonal changes might mean the colour doesn't take as you'd expect and the shade might be a bit different. I've not heard of this in real life.
Plus I read that 50% of all European women colour their hair so that's an awful lot of pg women with dyed hair out there!
I agree with what the girls are saying!...........however, I have gone privately to a guy who specialises in Early Pregnancy problems and he told me not to do anything in relation to colouring my hair!! Apparently it can be absorbed throught the scalp.
I had an appointment booked and everything...........I was gutted!......but considering the dreadful start I had I would not do a thing that may harm my little angel!!
Just another view on it........I personally don't see the harm as most things I have read don't class it as a problem.
i was told no.
but i know alot of women who do and there babie are all doing great.
good luck and congarts on you bfp..
