Paige,

Heartburn is the WORST! Last night it kept me up until 4:00am, and then I had to go and sleep sitting up on the couch. My doctor said it's okay to take over-th-counter medications. He said to start mild and move up until it goes away as follows:

Tums > Mylanta > Pepcid AC

Just make sure they don't have any "extra" ingredients like anti-gas stuff. I also have to be careful because calcium conflicts with my iron and prenatal vitamin supplements. I just have to time it so I don't take them close together.

Have you told your doctor how bad it has become? I worry about you a little because of the vomitting. I haven't had that yet. Hoping it never comes to that.

How are you otherwise? Our vacation to Maui was great - thanks for the swimsuit loan offer. I had one from Ebay, but did not even wear it, since we mostly drove around the island.

Alicia:

I go to the Dr. Monday for the gestational diabetes test and blood work, so I'll talk to her about the heartburn then, seriously it just started this month, so I didn't mention it during my last appointment. I've found that chocolate makes it the worst!

Debra: I'm going to buy carrots at the grocery store this afternoon. Thanks for the tip, I'm willing to try anything that worked for anyone. One of my neighbors also said that milk before bed helps her out? Does that make any sense at all?

Maybe I should go straight for the Pepcid AC! I'll see what my ob says on Monday. I have been chewing tums and papaya enzyme tablets. They are not able to knock it out though. I think I slept 4 hours last night and I doubt I'll hold up if I have to do that for 12 more weeks!

Alicia! You didn't sport your new swimsuit? Oh well, I'm glad you had a great time on your vacation! Maui is so awesome.

heartburn

Post by Cate »

Hello everyone
re the heartburn my doctor prescribed Gaviscon peppermint it's liquid I took it throughout with Jess too, so no problem with it and it works I have a huge bottle and a small one to put in my bag!

I'm feeling pretty good at the moment though very tiered by about 9pm I tried to stay awake for a programme just started in the Uk called Desperate Housewifes on at 10pm it's been on twice I was asleep for both of them! Appartantly it's very big in America??? A bit like Sex in the City?

I read the book you recommended Paige it was very good hard going at first because the names were very similiar and I had to keep remembering which person was which.

I started a new one by Ben Elton I really like his books normally as very funny but the latest Post Morteum is nasty very gruesome still funny but I'm much more sensitive to everything at the moment.
I watched one of Jess's Christmas films with her last night called Little Secrets ended up in tears!!!
Glad you had a good holiday Alicia. I start going to see community midwife this Monday I've got the shared care thing were by I see midwife in hospital and attached to my own doctors. What about you? Apparently I should have booked it ages ago but noone told me. I have asked about antenantal classes as well and rather sadly there are not as many as ten years ago when I had Jessie. I want to remind myself of everything and see whats changed also some of the friends I have now I met at such classes when having Jess. For most of my friends roughly around the same age having children are the last things on their minds they did it when I did and went on to have more and now are back at work and children growing up.
My next scan is 27th and yes Tanya you are right I'm not leaving without picture.......! Really cheesed me off that one when I was 30 I wouldn't have let that happen, but now I guess so grateful for everything etc etc etc. Anyway keep in touch Cate x

Cate:

Desperate Housewives is sooooo good. Trashy TV that is totally addictive. We TIVO it so we don't miss it  .

Good luck signing up for your antenatal classes, I'm not going to bother this time as I know it's a sheduled C. Though on that note, I should have the actual date on Monday when I see my OB, she said we should book the surgical room early so we get a good time. So that will be nice to have an official count down.

Hi Ladies
Hope everyone is getting on OK. Thankfully the heartburn hasn't affected me yet but I do yet abit of regurge when I burp after a big meal. Eating little and often now which is real hard when you are starving.

I'm 27 wks now. The latest trauma is that the 2nd twin isn't growing so well :( and is below average for dates, but the blood supply to the babies is OK. They are going to rescan me at 30 wks and if no improvement then I'm having a c section there and then. Nothing is ready in the house! although I guess they will go to the special care unit to begin with.

Does anyone have any ideas where I can find a decent twin pram/stroller which uses the carrier/car seat combo? I can't find anything suitable. Mothercare do these twin strollers but they seem more suited for toddlers. I'm really surprised how little is on offer for mums to be with twins. If anyone can recommend UK shops or websites that would be great. We have a very narrow hallway which doesn't help.

Bye for now

Janem,

I could only find two solutions for the twin stroller that takes infant car seats. Sadly, they don't convert to normal strollers, so you have to get one of those, eventually, too. I'm giving you links to US websites, but I'm sure these are available in the UK, too.

There is the Baby Trend Double Snap N Go, which we bought yesterday. It is $100 US, no matter where you look and it never seems to go on sale:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/st ... 41-4800063

A design which looks even better, but is more expensive and seems to be made by a private individual, is Double Decker Twin Stroller:

http://doubledeckerstroller.com/index.shtml

Read carefully which infant seats are compatible. I know that the Baby Trend one can take the Graco Snugride.

Good Luck!

Hi Ladies:

Janem: Good luck with your scan in 2 weeks. You're due around the same time as Tanya and I if I remember correctly. Either way, we'll all be thinking about you and wishing you the best. I guess there is nothing you can do to make the smaller twin get more food! I don't think laying on a certain side after you eat is going to do it
I'm sure you have lots to do in the next 2 weeks to try to get everything ready! It will fly by. I haven't even starting hauling stuff up from the basement to see what I have!

Hi Girls

i have the heartburn thing going on quite bad to a i agree chocolate def makes it a lot worse and milk seems to help me a little but in the end its always the gaviscon that sorts it i seem to have it most the time now.
i had my 23 weeks scan last week and the twins are both growing well i managed to pass out twice while i was having the scan due to the pressure the babies were putting on my blood vessels but they were lovely and looked after me well i also still have very sore itchy skin i cant shower in anything but E45 shower cream or im itching and scratching like a made thing am going to the doctors tomorrow as the seem to have lost my blood test results so i have to have them done again think i will get a prescription for some cream and shower stuff and some heartburn stuff.

I cant believe how fast the time has gone it feels like only yesterday we were getting out BFP's and now here we all are not far off holding our little ones i have nothing ready really yet money is a little tight what with xmas and DP has just changed jobs but im slowly getting there im so with you on the twin buggy thing there is nothing out there i so wanted a proper pram for them but they just dont do them and the ones i have found are all on the net and seem so bulky so i thought i would get the twin stroller from mothercare and when the are born being twins they are not going to be very big babies so i thought i would buy a single pram you know the ones that are more like beds on wheels cant think of the proper name for them and was thinking they would both be ok in there together for a few weeks at least after all their both tucked up together inside me nice and cosy they will be used to being close
oh well backs starting to hurt now will go rest on the sofa for a bit until that gets sore to hehehe lots of love to you all and love to all the bumps

love Ang xxx
Our dream came true after 5 yrs ttc we know have 8month old twin boys Adam and Kieran and our gorgeous 9 yr old daughter.

Hiya
Thanks Alicia for the websites, I will have a look. I may follow Angela's thoughts and buy a pram to put both in until they get big enough for a stroller or something.
Hi Paige, thanks for your best wishes. It's abit scary to think that the babbas could be here in 2 weeks. We've just decorated the nursery so least one thing is ticked off the list

Hey 2nd trimester buddies ( and a couple of us sneaking into the 3rd trimester):

My Dr. Called today and I failed the Gestational Diabetes screening so I have to go in for a 3 hour test! Where they make you drink 2xs a much of that sweet orange crap and take you blood every hour.
I'm bummed out, I'm sure the Christmas cookies got to me.

A couple of things are out of whack....the ob was not happy I lost a pound (this heartburn makes me not want to eat at night), and they found blood in my urine, which could indicate a urinary tract infection. So it seems my dear friends...I am officially falling apart.

Hi Girls!

Jane and Angela, I know all about the twin buggy nightmare. We ended up with a Graco Duosport to begin with which was lovely and light but once my two reached the age of 1, it became a nightmare to push. So we then invested in a 3-wheeler - the Nipper Double - which is still a delight to push even with two heavy almost 3 year olds in it.

I'm not sure whether it's at all close to you but there's a really useful shop in Haywards Heath in Sussex called Tiny Tinker. They have a showroom with loads of twin pushchairs to try out. We went there to try the Nipper and a couple of others out and they let us push the children around the streets to try them out. Kiddicare is about the cheapest place for pushchairs and if you want advice on different pushchairs, I'd recommend visiting the forums at www.twinsclub.co.uk.

All the best.

Paige,

So sorry to hear that you feel you are falling apart. I worry about that happening too. My gestational diabetes test is in two weeks, and I am very nervous about it. When is your next test? What happens if you fail that? Just a diet change?

I had a scan today and it was not 100%, as all our other ones have been. They said baby B has a protrusion in the kidney. They said it is a 50% chance it will go away or not be anything to worry about. They will look for other abnormaities, because it can be a sign that something is wrong with the baby, if they find other problems. Hm, wondering if I should have done that amino after all...not that it would have necessarily changed anything.

Alicia:

Sorry to hear about your scan result, my neighbor had an unusual Level II scan (she's actually due today), but the protrusions were on the brain, they did go away so hopefully you will have the same story. You'll be in my thoughts and prayers that it is nothing. Also, regarding the amnio....don't beat yourself up about it, because with twins you couldn't have done anything anyway could you?

So with the gestational diabetes thingy, I guess I go in for a 3 hour test...my ob is mailing me the info on when/how to schedule it. From what I've been reading only 20% of the population who fails the first 1 hour test actually fail the 3 hour test. If you do fail the 3 hour test, you then go on a special diet, and 10% of those people will actually need to inject insulin. There is also a risk for those who fail the 3 hour test that you will be diabetic after the baby is born....or atleast a lot higher risk for it. I'm really hoping that I will fall into the 80% who pass the 3 hour test. What a pain. I guess I will be giving up my only vice....a Coca-Cola every morning (and I was only have one!).

Paige,

Actually, those numbers sound encouraging. 80% is a very good chance you will pass the 3 hour test. Even in the worst case scenario - insulin injections - well, it's nothing we haven't been through before, really

Regardless, you seem very healthy as far as diet and exercise, so I'm sure there will be no long term effects. Good luck for your test!
