february friends?

Post by minnow »

hi, sorry if someone has already posted re this but didnt spot anyone. am about to start first round of IVF although secretly hoping of course that this month I may just get pregnant anyway!

start sniffing on jan 28th and then we'll see. I wonder whether anyone has started sniffing earlier than day 21? I have regularish cycles so consulatant suggested starting day 21 and have not been put on pill. this month i seem to have ovulated a bit earlier (day 12 or so) and would expect period around 13 days later normally. will day 21 still be appropriate then?

just to introduce myself, husband and I have been ttc for a year now. we have had the normal sperm and hormone tests and no problems there. I have had a laporoscopy and everything fine although i have small cysts on ovaries.

referred for ivf and feel excited but of course anxious, particularly with it being the first. would be keen to hear from anyone else starting end of jan/into feb, any other first-timers or anyone currently at the Lister. actually, any responses would of course be very welcome!!

feel really glad I have found this site. we have chosen only to tell 2 closest friends as I dont want to deal with the potential disappointment too widely. hence it is great to give/get advice and support in this kind of forum.

wishing you all loads of luck.

Hi Minnow, interesting name!

Welcome to the board. This is a great place for offloading and asking questions, sharing and supporting. Friends and family do try to help but like anything else, unless you've been through it yourself, it's hard to understand sometimes.

DebbieDeed started a Feb thread (it's about 10 down called 'Anyone starting soon?' or similar. No matter, I'm sure you'll find each other. You'll be glad to see you're similar ages too.

Have you started preparing with a pregnacare type multi-vit (normal have too much Vit.A), folic acid etc? Have you read Zita West's book (Sandra and I constantly recommend this book as about 30% is given over to couples undergoing fertility treament -what they can do to prepare, increase the odds etc). It's quite strict but given most of us feel fairly powerless during the treatment, waiting etc. it feels good to 'do' something to help.

Good luck and first time lucky isn't that uncommon as you'll soon see. Each month at least one person usually gets to move over onto the pg after tmt board.

hi debra, thank you for the encouragement and a first time positive would be incredible! i will try and hook up with Debbie as you suggest, which i'm sure will be a great help.

I too am a great fan of Zita West. i love the book. am taking a good pre preg multi vit and basically eating well etc to get myself in the best possible shape. i have had acupuncture for the last ten months which i love and through the ivf i will go weekly as an extra source of support. the only thing i am struggling with is any exercise as it is so cold out which makes me want to hibernate!! not the attitude needed to encourage new growth!!

Hi Minnow,
can I join you? I am starting my Buserlin inj on 30th Jan, so here's hoping all goes well.
I have also got Zita West's book and also a book by Mariilyn Glenville is very good. I have been to ger clinic in Tunbrdige Well's and I take her supplements so hopefully they will help.
I also haven't told many people, some of my family know but there are only a few at work who know, I think it is easier to deal with that way.
This site has been of great help to me.

hi B, great to get together! i can see how helpful this site must be. it's all such an unknown for me at the moment and I am caught between thinking about those people who say how hard physically and emotionally that IVF is and those who say it's not as bad as you think!

i too am taking the same vitamins as you. gutted as I bought the male version for my husband and he is refusing to take them as some of the vits are 300. RDA. he has a medical background and is a bit sceptical. i have however got him on another good multivit!! might see what else i can slip in..

when you say you start the injections on the 30th, is that another way to suppress or is that the stimulating bit? you can see how new I am to this!

I had a choice of sniffing or injections, as far as I know these are the suppression bit, I am also new to IVF, it is my first time and hopefully my last!
I also feel the same as you, I am caught between the physical and emotional side and those who say it isn't that bad, I suppose we will know for ourselves soon enough. I do get pannicky about it, I nearly pulled out of it the other day, I was really scared but have managed to calm myself down, I now feel much more positive.
Do you know if we have periods during all of this, I think we do but am not really sure, I don't think my dr had explained it that well to me.

great to know that the feelings are shared! inevitable i suppose. as far as I can gather we should get a period around 7-9 days after we start the suppression. i have been told to ring the clinic once period starts and will then have a scan and start doing the injections from around day 3-5 of the period. i too am feeling positive. obviously hoping for a good outcome, but just pleased that we are taking an active stance.

Hi Minnow - Just to say Hi, and welcome to the site. I know that at first, this IVF stuff all seems so mindblowing, and there's seemingly so much to a cycle - but you'll soon feel like you've been around on here forever. Good luck for a smooth, successful cycle ! :)

Hello all,
I guess I feel like a bit of an old hand here (second round - first IVF resulted in -ive early November last year).
I started sniffing today!!!! I'd forgotten how awful the taste is but at least it now feels like I'm doing something. Last time I didn't get too many side effects (some hot flushes towards the end) so I''m hoping it will be the same this time. Last time AF arrived on day 9 of sniffing so I'm assuming that it should be similar this time. Next appointment is 7th Feb for my baseline scan. I'm actually booked in for ET week begining 28th Feb but if I'm ready on 7th Feb, and if they have a cancellation I will be able to begin injections on 8th Feb which will bring the ET a week earlier. I'm really hoping that will be the case, but for that to happen it will mean that things haven't gone well for someone else.
Still - got to keep a PMA and hope that things will be successful for us this time.
Good luck to everyone.

Just wanted to say Hi to all you newbies out there. I was a newbie too last October, when i started sniffing, I know how you all must be feeling.

but everything you go through is all sooooo worth it when you get that +ve result, whether its first time round or 5th time round cycling. i was very lucky as we have caught out with twins first time round. :D :D so it really CAN happen. the main thing is to keep up your PMA that it WILL happen to you, try to relax (if you can) and go with the flow.

This board was such a source of help to me, I really dont know where i would have turned to at times if it wasn't for the board. All the girls are lovely and helpful. if you have any questions, please dont hesitate to get in touch and ill try to help.

Good luck all and happy cycling

Hi girls,

I guess I can join here, though my IVF cycle has long started already. I've been put on a hold because I developed some water in the tubes during stimulation. They froze the embroys they got - four good looking ones - and I will get some implanted probably around Feb 20. At the moment I am doing nothing and just wait for my first day of period.

What is sniffing? I never heard of that before. Are you sure that it is legal? Just kidding.

I did one cycle in the U.S. and my second one now happens in Singapore. Every practice has just different methods and medications.

To all IVF newcomers: Good luck to you! I personally feel it helps to learn as much as you can about everything, and then, from a certain point on, forget about it again and just look ahead to the next steps. Especially the statistics were driving us mad the last time. I'm doing this second trial like a sleep walker, and it really puts my mind at ease.
