hiya all...
It's been a while since i last posted on this site, but now, finally i have some news. Not what we had hoped, but hopefully it'll work out for us.
It's a long story(aren't they all??), but to keep it short and sweet, it goes like this... we were waiting for hubby to have his sperm harvest, so we could hopefully go ahead with ICSI. We have been waiting foe almost 8 months already, but on thursday we got a letter, from the clinic. Imagine our excitement, thinking that we had a date for DH's op, but it wasnt. It was to say that we would have to wait untill next april at the earliest for dh to have his operatinon. As you can well imagine we were both gutted, because time is against us, due to DH's age, and we were hopeing that it would happen ASAP, especially as we are paying for it privately. Anyways, we sat down and talked and talked about it, and we made a decision. We are going to use sperm donor instead of waiting for dh to have his operation. We haven't made this decision lightly, and we made an appointment to go see our doctor at the clinic on thursday, next week, to discuss this. If they agree to let us go ahead with this, and i can't see why they shouldn't, we hope to be on track by christmas at the latest, fingers crossed.
So that's my story. Not quite how we imagined it, but if we can have a baby, then it will be more than worth it. One thing though, have any of you ladies out there used donor sperm? How did you feel about it? And what about your DH? how did/does he feel about it? Any feedback would be most appreciated.
Anyways, better go, take care all,
Heather xxx
Got pregnant with IUI triplets in March 04. One triplet stopped growing at 9 weeks. Gave birth to twin boys in Sep 04, Ciaran sadly lost his fight. Brennan's thriving.Looking to give Brennan a sibling soon.

Hi Heather
Good for you for deciding to use donor sperm - I think as soon as you end up with your little bundle of joy you'll forget all about that! I don't know anyone who has used a doner, so am no help to you... but I just wanted to say that I think that all of us on the site wil do anything (almost!) to get the result so lots of luck.
Michelle x
Hi Heather,

I've had 7 cycles of IUI using donor sperm. We decided that since the majority of my dh's sperm are abnormal (and this abnormality could be passed on) we'd go for this.

Unfortunately none were successful and now we're going through ICSI, they can use the few decent sperm he has.

How we thought about it was that whatever happens, this would be our child and we were very committed to that thought. It could be that we may go back to donor sperm if we have many more failures. My dh had suspected he wasn't able to conceive for many years (the presence of a daughter is another story) and so he was actually relieved that there was another way for us to get what we wanted. He's not a 'mans man' though, and I think this helps - there was not too much male ego to dent, if you know what I mean.

One thing you need to be aware of is that councelling is compulsary when you go for donor treatment - they want to make sure you have discussed it and are making the decision for the right reasons, but it sounds like you have covered that between you anyway.

Good luck, whatever you decide.

Fiona xx
