Frozen Embryo Transfer - using drugs

Post by Lisa O'Sullivan »

After our first failed attempt at IVF in July 2004 we opted to proceed with an FET in November 2004. My consultant briefly discussed the procedure back in July and I was made aware that you could do this using a natural cycle. Unfortunately our attempt was aborted when I started ovulation on a Thursday, this meant that transfer would take place on Sunday, which is not feaseable.

At that time I was not aware of the option to use injections/drugs to predict ovulation and in March 2005 we have planned to try our 2nd FET using this method.

Has anybody has success using this procedure, if so I would love to hear from you.

Yours hopefully,

Hi Lisa

I haven't had a success YET ! :D ! However, I too am planning on a medicated FET cycle in March (could get to April), so we may cycle together.

There have been lots of sucessful medicated FETs on this site..... I'm sure you'll get lots of replies. You would, however, be better posting your question on the General forum. That's where most girls tend to look.

Lots of luck !!

Sandra,

Thanks for replying!

Keep me posted with your progress under this forum.

I am due to start down regulating (Bucerelin) on 10th Feb with a ET date of 16th March all being well.

We have opted not to tell people about the FET that way we hope it will be easlier to cope with. How about you?

Good Luck xxx

Hi Lisa,

I haven't had any sucess with FET using drugs, however I just wanted you to know that it is easier than a fresh transfer. The method I used was to take sprays for a while, then tablets, then pessaries, the eggs were put back in and he sprays stopped but the tablets and pessaries cont. for 2 ww. It is not as hard going as injections, I think I could switch off a bit more and relaxed more. I found the night sweats awful and was a bit sicky on the last go with the tablets.

We had to tell people about ours the last time as we were due to move house a day or so after transfer and cancelled the move - everybody wanted to know why. I feel that it is easier when people don't know. For me the hardest part of failing is telling people. We have had 3 tries, first we told everyone because we were so excited, 2nd we didn't tell anyone until we had come to terms with it , 3rd like I said. I found not telling, far less pressure.

I wish you and Sandra loads of luck xxx

Hiya Leanne - Thanks for the good luck wishes !! :) !!

Lisa - As Leanne (and countless others) say, an FET (medicated / unmedicated) cycle seems to be much easier all round.

Thinking about it, you'll have actually finished your cycle before I even get going. We're due back from hol on 9 March, the day my AFs due. If the hospital then accept me that cycle, my buserelin will start 30 March ... OMG ... that means I'll be an April buddy ..... that seems so far away !! I was originally thinking March at the latest  Oh well, never mind - a 2006 baby it will have to be !

I've only told my mum, my line manager and a couple in higher management. It seems easier for me that way. I'm not at all bothered about folk knowing - I just can't cope with all the questions, comments, and expectations.

Not long to go now 'till 10 Feb ..! Good luck with this cycle. Lots of PMA (positive thinking really does help you know !). :D
