bad cold

Post by valpas »

Hi Gals,
I am having very bad cold since yesterday. Runny nose and lots of congestion. Sour throat and everything. I am kind of scared to take any medications. My Primary nurse told me to take sudafed and benadryl. Has anyone used medications for cold during pregnancy?
Can you suggest some tips to get releif from this cold.
Thank you,
Love Valli.

I was told that with any non pregnancy illnesses to stick to paracetamol and nothing else. paracetamol is usually good in colds as it also helps to bring down temperatures/fevers and relieve sore throats, tho its no good for congestion!!

if unsure speak to your local pharmacist as well - maybe some herbal or natural remedies might help?!

Hi Valli,
Sorry to hear you're feeling so bad. My doctor gave me a list of acceptable over-the-counter medications for various ailments during pregnancy. For congestion & sinusitis he said that Afrin saline spray (in the blue box), Sudafed, and Actifed are okay. For a cough he said that Robitussin DM (and only DM) is safe.

Other than that ... lots of chicken noodle soup and rest.

Take care and hope you're feeling better soon!

Kelly:

You can also take Tylenol for pain..sore throat. Just stay away from Ibuprofin.....aceteminophin is fine (per my Dr. anyway).

Hi Toni, Kelly and Paige,
Thank you very much for your replies. You are very supportive.
I am going to the general physician at 4pm today. This congestion is getting worse. Mostly breathing thro mouth . I'll keep you posted what Doctor says.
Thank you,
Love Valli.

Hi All,
Doctor gave me the following drugs.
Sudafed for congestion.
Robutissin Plain for cough.
Nasal saline . Either Ocean mist or simply saline.
If I don't get better even after 2days I'd need to go for anti biotics. I hope I feel better by then.
Love Valli
