FET

Post by joy »

Hi. I am new and posted on the IVF board but was told to post here. I am having FET on April 14th and want it to work so very, very badly. I did IVF in January and it didn't work for us. My husband and I were devastated. I am 35. I have 7 embryos frozen at a day 6... what do you think are my chances. Is there a good success rate? I want to know others' stories. It is nice to be able to share.... Thanks.

hi and i am glad that you posted here..
i got a - from the first ivf then got pregnant with fet .. i had mc but it was because of other problems with me, not because of our babies...
but if you go and look on the parents after ivf you will see that alot of them are chasing after there babies from fet....
i liked doing fet better. it seemed alot less stressful..
will it was less stresful after the thawing..
good luck
becky

Hi Joy,

Sorry to hear about your -tive result in January.. It is hard, we had 2 -tives last year but you do get stronger.
I'm just going through a FET cycle at the moment, and I believe that the odds are just as good as fresh IVF once the embies thaw ok and are transfered, the chances are the same.. Hopefully I can give you a positive story soon - fingers crossed!

That's great that you have 7 good embies, I think you have a really good chance with all those frozen embies. Also, FET is a lot less stressful as long as you remember to take the tablets! I have to set an alarm!

Wishing you lots of luck,

Hi Joy!

I will be doing a FET in April...Also day 6. I am hopeful. I have 3 frosties and will be thawing all three. I think our chances are about the same as regular IVF, once the embryos are thawed.

I have heard some reassuring comments such as, embryos that survive freezing and defrosting must be high quality. I don't know, but it seems logical.

Yes, there are many women on here that have had sucess with FET, and many who are in your same shoes (like me). I am told the FET is much better than a full treatment......we will see in April :D .

Welcome. If you stay around there is a lot of support of this board.

Hi Joy!

I had to post, because your situation sounds almost exactly like ours. We had IVF (w/ICSI) in January. We did get a positive, but lost it right away. We were able to freeze 11 embies and are gearing up for FET in late Mar or early April. I agree with the others concerning the success rate of FET...my RE said it is the same as fresh once they are thawed. The thawing success is based on the quality of the embies. We were fortunate that most of ours are high quality.

Good luck with your cycle. I will be thinking of you and sending you positive thoughts. Stay close to the boards here...there is so much info to be had and everyone here is so supportive. It really helps to be able to talk to people who know what you are going through. Keep us posted on your progress. I would love to know how you are doing!

Me too... let me know how yours work. It is helping for everyone here to be so positive. You are probably like me and want it so much... it is sometimes hard to stay positive. Do you know what happened with yours? The dr. told me sometimes it is just not the right embryos, even though they looked so good. Let me know what happens and I will be thinking of you! I pray every day for my frosties!!! So does my husband....

Joy:

Yes, we want so badly to have this happen. We never thought it would be this hard to have a child. My DH especially thought it would be soooo easy. He actually has 3 children from his first marriage, and he said they would get pregnant at the drop of a hat. When we first decided to try he said, "you'll be pregnant within a month." Well, that's been close to 2 years ago. I guess we shouldn't complain too much...DH does have the 3 kids already, and I read here about people who are having such terrible problems (example: Dagny is having such a hard time), but I still can't help thinking "WHY ME??" I want so badly for DH & I to have a child of our own. So, when I get feeling real discouraged, reading the boards here helps to keep me thinking positive.

Our Dr. had about the same to say about our loss as yours did. He basically said that when something like this happens, it is usually due to some chromosomal issue with the embryos. He said that it is estimated that up to 20% of ALL pregnancies end like ours did, and most people don't even know that they were preganant. His point being...this is not that unusual an occurrence in the general population, and there is no reason why we should not be able to go on and have a healthly pregnancy with our frosties. It was just that much harder, since we had gone through such a complex process to get to that point. Hearing this did actually make me feel a bit better. It made me realize that it might not have been yet another evil infertility issue, but, rather, something that generally happens at times. Now I am in the "Next time it WILL work" mode. Hopefully, I am right, and I hope the same is true for you and your DH!

Sorry this got to be so long, but I wanted to pass it on in the hope that it gives you some encouragement that this thing will work! Keep me posted!

Oh, I can't believe how similar we are. I feel so much for you. We are just the opposite. I have 3 children from a previous marriage and I got pregnant from a drop of a hat. My husband so badly wants to have his own children and I so badly want one with him. I truly, truly feel for you. I am glad to know the same with you. It is still hard though, even when everyone says it can still happen. I do find that with this message board, it puts things into perspective for me. You should have a child, it shouldn't be so hard for Dagny...

What I found is that eveything up to the IVF went so well. They kept telling me 90%... that is how well it went... and then nothing... I had already picked out names....

I have an angel stone... it is supposed to take away worries and help and now I have said a prayer for you on it and for Dagny and everyone else..... Please keep me posted... I will be thinking about you...

Just to let you know that I had 1st ivf last Jan = -ive. I then had a FET in July (on day of testing it was +ive, but then I miscarried shortly after). My next ivf was positive and I am now 16 weeks pg.
Do go over to Pregnant after Treatment board as there are many pg with fet.
Having 7 frosties is also excellent, as you will get some good outcomes with them. They thawed 4 of mine and 3 made a good grade.
Good luck with your treatment.

Congratulations to you!!!! :P I have very happy for you... I am sorry you had to go through the other rough stuff. You made my day letting me know that 7 frosties is good. I think my husband and I will also thaw 4 on the 14th of April.... the one thing I worried about that because my IVF didn't take, the frosties wouldn't either... but my dr. assured me as have many people on the board that that is not true.... so, thank you so very much and let me know how your progress is....

Hi Joy,

I am going to be nosy. My embryos were also frozen at day 6, so I was curious about anyone else in my same situation. Do you know why your clinic chose to freeze on day six?

Is this standard for your clinic, was your previous transfer also on day six, or did they give you some other type reason?

Curious,

Hi. Good to hear from you. My understanding is (from my dr.) that it is good to be frozen at day 6. At my hospital (Madison, WI) they said if you wait until Day 6 then they can usually tell which embryos will take and which ones will not. If you have to have an implantation at a day 3, then they said they have to implant more embryos (the likelihood of course is maybe triplets or quadruplets). In any event, they said the day 6 embryos are the stronger ones.

What did they tell you?

Actually my IVF was a day 5, so maybe if they would have waited the 1 more day, the would have seen that the 2 embryos they put into me wouldn't make it, I am not sure. It just made me very, very sad. In any event, my dr. said that they might have been the wrong embryos.... so, hopefully, on the 14th of April, whichever frosties unfreeze will be very strong and will work.

Hope things work well for you. Are you having a FET?

Joy,

My transfer was on day five. I was told that the embryologist wanted to allow the blastocyst to develop one more day before freezing. My embryos were about 12 hours behind in development compared to what they should be and this was the reason given for freezing on day 6.

When the IVF failed (I only transfered one embryo) during the phone conversation with my RE he said, " I am sorry, I really thought this cycle would be a success but you should not let the other embryos go to waste. I don't want to give you false hope but one of the frozen embryos looks better than the one we transfered, I think you should seriously considering doing a FET before looking at any other alternative".

I remember what he said almost word for word because it was a 'flashbulb memory' moment.

thanks for your answers. Yes, I will doing a FET in April.
