Hi there charlie - As I understand it, ICSI is where they inject the sperm into the egg rather than hoping they will fertilise naturally.

We had normal IVF first time around (unsuccesful) then ICSI second time which left us with 6 fertilised eggs rather than 1 the first attempt - so much better for us!

I am waiting to see if our FET has worked - My results are on Monday!!!!!

Good luck with everything

I would say if you have that many fertilised it may not be worth it for you but I would ask for advice from your clinic. I don't know about individual costings - we paid just around £3,500 for the whole IVF with ICSI if that helps!!

All the best and take care!

Charlie, Gaynor's description was spot on but you might also want to check the more formal, medical info given just the left of this board, ICSI is the final item in the blue IVF + ICSI item list.

I agree with Gaynor's comments. From what I understand, ICSI is often used when low rates of fertilisation occur and/or if the egg's surface is thought to be harder to penetrate. Your getting 10 out of 11 is extremely good so there doesn't seem to be an issue with fertilisation.

Good luck with your search though. There's a lot of information out there.

Debra.
