Hi, It's me again! Looking for some advice...... Me and dh had a letter through today, asking us to contact the hosp. about arranging a date for his biopsy operation. Which we have been waiting for, for the last 6 months. But dh & I are both scared.
Really dont know anything......What happens? How long does it take?
Is it day surgery or is it longer? Any Risks? How long is recovery?
So many Questions?
Please, if anyone has any info please help us, or if anyone has been there. let us know what its like!
Many Thanks!

Hi Nicolamark .... I'm just scanning through some of the other forums and saw your post ..... I'm afraid I can't answer your questions as I've no experience of biopsies, but if you post again on the General Forum, you'll have a better chance of someone with this experience replying ...... Everyone trying to conceive tends to post on the General Forum, rather than the others ...
Good luck !

I assume your dh is having surgical sperm retrieval. if not, then sorry if my advice is not relevant!
My dh is having surgical sperm retrieval next Wednesday 15th Sep at Liverpool Women's Hospital because he had a vasectomy about 9 years ago.
On Monday he will have blood tests then on Wednesday he has a general anasthetic and they try to suction out sperm from the tubing behind the testicles through a small incision. if this is unsuccesful (as it is in 60% of cases) then they do a biopsy. they cut 3 times into the testicle and then extract sperm from the tissue. It is a day case so he can go home that evening. he then has a check up 2 days later. He will be a bit sore but otherwise recovery isn't too bad.
The consultant we are using has a 100% success rate. The sperm are frozen and are used for ICSI which we will hopefully have in the next couple of weeks.
I hope this helps you. Good luck and tell your dh not to worry!!

Hi Thanks, only just logged on today and seen this message, dh's biopsy was today, but decided not to go ahead right at the the last minute.
I'm a bit angry, trying to see it from his point of veiw, I do understand. I love him and thats all that matters really!!
we are back on the waiting list, in case he decides he can go through with it later down the line,
I just wish this would go away! Its oh so hard to cope!!
Thanks for advice,

I don't understand. why did he back out? because he was scared? first of all, there's nothing to be scared of, and secondly, i don't intend to be mean, but if your problem is male factor then you can't go ahead until he does something about it!!
Just so you know, my dh had no problem at all with his biopsy. he had no pain before, during or after the op, the tiniest bit of bruising, a couple of stitches which dissolved and said he enjoyed spending a couple of days resting!!
we got enough for 10 ivf/icsi cycles which is fantastic and we were back having sex after just a few days with no pain or problems at all. i start downregging on 10th Nov.
if you want any more advice, please ask because i can really, really recommend that he has this done.
good luck
