hiya everyone,

I'm just new to the site and only came across it tonight whilst looking up adoption agencies and related sites. I have just had my last frozen embyros replaced last week but unfortunately it hasn't worked, life goes on eh?

I would be interested to hear from anyone who has any opinions on adopting and generally just to get to know some of you. It gets a bit down when no one around you has went through IVF etc, so it will be good to at last speak to other women who are in the same position as myself.

Hope this finds everyone well.

mojo
Hello Mojo,

I totally know what it feels like when a cycle of any description dosen't work and its natural to think - SOD this, why me. that's it.
Believe me I have been there. But whats the rest of your story - what are your infertility factors and how long have you been trying. I think adoption is fantastic - but I also know from experience its not that easy and the wait can be forever. Fostering is alot easier - but of course foster parents have to give back the children that they have loved cared and cherished - which always seemed too hard for me.

Lots of Love
Charmaine
x
Charmaine thanks for your reply. My hubby and I have been doing IVF since 1990. I have had my 3 egg retrievals. Only one slight problem tho!!! I over stimulated on all 3 occasions. Good thing was I got between 25 and 30 eggs each time. About 95% of the eggs were fertilised and then frozen. I had to wait a few months for them to get replaced. I have had about 10-12 "shots" overall and it hasnt worked. My problem is that I had a pelvis infection when I was 7 and was never given antibiotics, (I was adopted the day after also) so no antibiotics were passed over, so the gynaecologist said the infection of the tubes was so bad that I couldnt even consider tubal surgery, so I was then put straight onto the IVF waiting list. Now thats all over with we need to look down the road of adoption.

Charmaine I aint that sad about it, I aint that kind of person. I know some woman are obsessed with needing to succeed, but I don't think I am a failure (tho at the beginning I did). I take a look around me and think how lucky I am really. Ok we don't have kids but we got each other and that matters most to me. Plus I have a nice house and a good job and most importantly friends round about me.

Hope to hear from u soon.

Mojo
Hi Mojo,

I'm new to this site too, just having my failed my first attempt at IVF/ICSI at the beginning of this month. I've been thinking too a lot about adoption as don't know how many times I'm prepared to go through IVF seeing as I found this first time pretty stressful. I guess I'm probably going to have another go though but would like to find out more about adoption. Have you seen any good websites?

I know a colleague of mine at work adopted and it took about 18 months before they could pick up the baby, but they were totally thrilled with her once they got her. She is even beginning to look like her new parents!

When you say "your last attempt" does that mean you won't/can't do IVF again now? I really admire your objective attitude towards it all.

Take care, Zoe

Hiya Zoe, Welcome aboard. Im new to this site as well so we could struggle through together ok. This is my last attempt through NHS. I don't really want to go down the private road, too expensive, plus you need to know when to call it a day unless you can afford that road. I think we would be able to afford a couple of treatments but the fact that I have been so fortunate to have so many attempts through the NHS, my last one being just two weeks ago, (the period came on Monday but heh its not the end of the world)I have the unfortunate circumstance of over stimulating. I over stimulated at all three retrievals, so the only option left for us was frozen embryo transfer.

The only thought that goes through my head now is "Can they not reduce the drug dosage of the injections so that I dont over stimulate and then maybe I could have the embryos replaced straight away, instead of having to wait three months. I dont know if it would make a difference but thats the only thing I haven't tried.

My hubby and I were told away back in 1990 when we tried to register on the adoption list that we had to have exhausted all avenues possible for conceiving a child, and that if you were on an IVF waiting list or having treatment done then you would have to finish the treatment first before they would consider registering you. 12 wasted years and some kid could have been with us as a family but thats red tape for you.
Did you have to pay for your treatment Zoe? Have the docs told you wot is exactly wrong?
Hope this finds you well and hope to hear from you soon.

Mojo
