lie still

Post by Wendy »

OH KELLY, what an awful thing to have gone through and thank goodness babies still absolutely fine. JUST STAY IN BED. Get dh to wait on you if possible, but do absolutely nothing for at least a week - are you going back to the DR ? Stay in bed, warm and cosy, watch tv and forget everything else except that precious little baby inside. I've read a few bits about bleeding and lying flat is a good thing - to maximise blood flow to the uterus, also - no sex for a while, but i expect thats the last thing on your mind ! You sound so calm. Heres a huge ((((((((((((((((((hug)))))))))))))))))))) for being so brave and getting through this. Our thoughts are with you. My morning sickness is better, thank you - no actual vomiting thank goodness. Also my mum had heavy bleeding with my elder brother at 10 wks and carried on to have a completely normal full term pregnancy.
thinking of you. love wendy xxxxxx

Thank you for the hug and well wishes Wendy. I'm calm now, but was a basket case the entire weekend. I did see the doctor-on-call on Sunday. Glad he met me at the office, but I wasn't really fond of him in general. His "I knew it was nothing" attitude really irked me. Thank goodness he's not my doctor (just part of the group). I did talk to my doctor on Monday. He told me if I want to come in anytime this week I could, just let him know. He also told me to take it easy and yes ... complete pelvic rest (no sex) for one week after the bleeding stops. Since the remaining brown spotting stopped yesterday, and I got to see the baby Sunday AM, I feel really confident that the baby is fine. If the bleeding returned, or if I felt that awful heaviness in my lower abdomen again I would go in in a second. Yesterday was a great day since it was the first time I felt absolutely normal since this whole mess started on Friday. Just thankful nothing came of all the bleeding this weekend. Actually, DH and I are celebrating being pregnant all over again, like we have a second chance or something.

I know it's not totally uncommon to experience heavy bleeding in the 10th week. I just wish they could say what caused it or where exactly it was coming from?! For some reason know why would make me feel better. Dr had some ideas, but nothing concrete. He seems pretty positive that I should progress as normal from here on out. That would be nice!

I'm glad your m/s is better. You're going to see your little one in less than a month now! Hope the weather is warming up a bit over there. Have you started on the nursery? I thought I remembered you mentioning it. If so, are you picking a color before or after finding out the sex? (I believe you said you were going to find out). Unfortunately the nursery is a long way off for us. We have to move out of our small condo and into a house first. I doubt we'll do that until sometime in April, so I'll probably get started on the nursery until May.
Love ya,
Kelly

nursery

Post by Wendy »

Hi, I'm so glad you are feeling happy again. Its an awful thing to have gone through and however many times people say its normal and you'll be fine etc etc when its happening to you, its a completely different matter. As you say - there must be a reason, they just don't have the ability to find out and it really does help to have a reason when things go a bit off track.
Wow, you'll have you work cut out finding AND moving into a house - don't leave it too late before moving, its hard enough and stressful enough when you arn't pregnant !!
We are going to have to actually build in order to free up our existing office to make a nursery. Chris is very handy like that (hes building a house at the moment for his brother) so a small extension shouldn't be too much trouble. Problem is hes so busy at the moment it'll have to wait till spring, so we won't be decorating until after we know the sex, but I was thinking along the lines of cream / yellow anyway, so it wouldn't really matter. Benjamins room was and still is vibrant orange as we were told babies couldn't distinguish pastels and bright colours 8) were stimulating, but to be honest its a bit bright for me and I'd prefer something a bit more babyfied this time !!
The scans just under 3wks away, I'm trying not to think about wishing the days away, but it feels like forever. I've got a blood test for rubella and toxoplasmosis this week. Its just standard, the toxo is every month - they are really hot on it here as obviously the french are big into rare meat and also being in the countryside theres a lot of contact with animals in most families (not ours though !) and although I do love rare beef I'm steering well clear.
The weather here is wet and miserable, pouring with rain and howling gales, so not much walking being done ! Hopefully it'll pick up soon. You'll have to forgive my ignorance but roughly where is Denver (top left / right / bottom ??)
Well, I'm shattered and must go to bed (8pm !!) Take care and take it easy loads of love Wendy xxx

Kelly,

I am so sorry to hear that you have been having such an awful worrrying time of it. You must have been scared to death. And your doc could have been a bit more understanding. What a relief to hear that your little wonder is in there moving around oblivious to all the fuss being made. Clearly a little fighter :)
You take it really easy over the next week or so, watch TV, read, no running. Try some cobbler's or butterfly yoga position, it's very good for getting the blood into the pelvic area.
I'll be thinking about you and sending you lots of positive and RELAXING cyber vibes and a big hug
{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{HUG}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}

Wendy - won't be long now before you get to see those amazing images on screen. Sounds like you're keeping busy and keeping well. Good for you.

There is some discrepancy as to whether I hit 12 weeks yesterday (according to 10 week scan) or whether I hit it this Wednesday (by my calculation), in any event I seem to have turned a corner on the morning sickness. I sstruggled through another miserable week last week - sick morning til night. So when I woke up on Saturday morning and felt "normal" I could have shouted for joy, it felt so fantastic by comparison. Went for a long windy walk on Saturday afternoon which I really enjoyed. And yesterday and today haven't been so bad either. So fingers crossed that I'm through the worst of it.
I have my first midwife appointment next Monday which is pretty exciting. She comes to the house and does all the tests (except scans) there which is nice. And I have my first app with the OB on March 3rd

Other than that I just feel fat. Can't fit into any of my jeans - the zip won't go up so I'm definitely gone up one size. I'm reluctant to buy anything new yet so at the moment I'm just rejoicing in the fact that hipsters are still in fashion. Hooray for comfy hipsters!!
Have a good week,
Love to you both,

Edi

Hi girls!
Glad to hear that your m/s seems to be subsiding Edi (thanks for the hug). I had the same thing happen with the scans vs. calculations. I was told one thing at my first and second scan, then told that my date was different by my OB. I guess it can fluctuate by a couple days in the first trimester. Glad to hear you're still walking. I'm laying low these days out of concern re the bleeding, but I can't wait to do something active again soon. Thanks for the yoga position suggestions. I'll definitely try them out. How exciting to have your first midwife appointment!

A cream/yellow room sounds lovely Wendy! It's great that you two can add on to your house to create more space (wish we could do that, much easier =). You're going to have a busy summer too. As for your question about Denver ... we're located almost right in the middle of Colorado. The mountains are just to the west of us and the plains are just to the right. It's nice because we miss the big snows in the mountains, yet it only takes minutes to get to the ski resorts to enjoy it.

Unfortunatley my bleeding returned on Friday and continues today. Very light this time, and definitely old blood. I am having pains on my right side. Went to the doctor today. He put my mind at ease. We listened to the baby's heart. He feels the blood is residual from last weekend, and the pain is probably the fibroid. We're both hoping it's outgrowing it's blood supply, which will cause it to self-destruct. The down side is that the pain will get worse until it dies. It should have zero effect on the baby though. He wants to do an ultrasound on Thursday to check the location and size of the fibroid. That's about it. I'm far less stressed. I knew the baby was fine all weekend, just got a bit concerned at the persistant pain.

Dr. felt my uterus today and said it was pretty big now. Makes sense because boy do I feel bloated! DH keeps laughing at me and my unbuttoned jeans. He's enjoying the fact that my belly is starting to poke out. With that said ... I'm right with you Edi regarding the hipsters! Love them!

Love you guys!

feeling good

Post by Wendy »

Hiya, sounds like we are all feeling fairly happy and confident which is definately benificial for baby. I'm still getting nausea every day, most of the day, but seem to be keeping the worst of it away by nibbling and snacking. I'm 10wks today - I don't care what anyone says !! I mean its pretty certain when our eggs and sperm got it on together !! My ob says he takes day 1 as the thurs as concepton takes 24 hrs, but I'm sticking with weds !! Anyway we are all pretty close to being sure roughly where we are and at the end of the day baby decides when he/she arrives and the 40wk thing is only a guide. I'm glad you guys are popping out of jeans and feeling bloated. Its a wonderful feeling isn't it - getting a tummy. They arn't too bad in the uk generally as far as I can gather wrt weight gain as they no longer bother weighing you regularly unless theres a specific concern, but here in france they are still quite old fashioned and my ob particularly has a thing about weight gain - I know hes going to have a go at me at my 12wk appointmt, but I don't care. I put on 3 stone with Benjamin - I was huge, but 2 stone came off within no time, the last bit took a bit of effort, but I didn't start dieting until I'd finished breast feeding at 8 months. Everyones different, some women put on hardly any weight at the beginning, others like me, put on loads. I do need some new jeans though - even my hipsters are starting to get a bit uncomfortable and I'm not big enough to hold my pregnancy ones up yet.
Kelly, Sounds like you live in a lovely spot - best of both worlds. Have you started looking for a house yet ?
Big hugs all round :D loads of love wendy xxx

Hello,
Yes ... my tummy has definitely popped out! I've only gained about 3 pounds according to my doctor, which I guess is close to average. My hipster jeans are starting to get a bit uncomfortable too Wendy. Not sure what to do about it. I'm not big enough to require maternity clothes, but I'm sure on the edge with my own. I'm going to see what I can do for a temporary/cheap fix this weekend.

Went for an ultrasound yesterday. My doctor wanted to take a good look at the fibroid and my uterus for any additional blood. It was great seeing the baby again. He was super active ... up-side-down, right-side-up, flashing us, kicking ... it was quite the show. Then the lady doing the ultrasound stunned me when she asked if we wanted to know the sex. I didn't answer, since I wasn't prepared for that question yet. But I immediately looked up at the monitor. Sure enough there was something other than the umbilical cord between the legs. I asked if it was a boy and she said yes! The baby did a couple more moves, then gave us another view. There it was again. I asked her several times if it's possible to even tell 11 weeks 1 day. She said sometimes, if the baby is developing normally and cooperating. I later asked the doctor when he called, and he seemed more skeptical at knowing this early. Who knows! Regardless it was exciting. We would be happy with either or. I did find out what a push-over I am =) So much for saving it as a surprise. It didn't take much to make me change my mind.

As for house hunting - we haven't begun yet. I think we're going to start at the end of this month. Should be fun though! We're both anxious to get out of this condo. It's great being right in the middle of the city, and walking distance to shopping, coffee, restaurants. But it's just not practicale with having children. Besides ... I'm dying to have a yard of some sort!

Wendy - glad to hear that you're able to keep the nausea at bay with snacking! Edi - good luck with your midwife appt. on Monday! Hope you both have a wonderful weekend!

Congratulations - its a boy !!!

Post by Wendy »

Hiya, wow thats incredible - never heard of that before !! I think i'd wait a bit before rushing out and buying blue everything though !! You never know you may still be in for a surprise if it turns out to be a girl !! Our dr guessed at 4mths (we asked at 3mths but he said it was too early) and he got it right then and confirmed it at 5mths. But I believe a lot of hospitals won't even make a guess then, as apparently people have been known to sue because they got it wrong - can you believe that !! As you say - we'd be ecstatic with either. People keep saying to us that we must want a girl after Benjamin, but I just answer that we want a healthy happy baby and thats all - which is true. Either would be perfect.
Its still exciting tough isn't it - and still a nice surprise, its just that you have even longer to enjoy knowing. Congratulations.
Hope the house hunting goes well. Its definately a wonderful thing if you can find somewhere with a garden or outdoor area for play. Benjamin loves the outdoors, even in winter (unlike his mum !) We are very lucky that we are surrounded by open fields with no neighbours and have a lovely big garden. Benjamin can run around outside to his hearts content and its far more relaxing for me as there are no roads etc however we certainly can't walk to shops or restaurants, everythings a drive - so its swings and roundabouts really !! Good luck with the house hunting when you start.
loads of love wendy xxx

Hello!
Oh trust me ... we have little confidence in the recent sex disclosure =) She was really confident, and I'm sure she's done hundreds of scans. But my dr said it's still too early, and according to everything I've read it's still to early. We'll see. It will be fun to know when the time comes. I've definitely decided to go ahead and find out for sure.

I'm having my nuchal scan on Tuesday. I feel really spoiled for being able to see the baby almost weekly. I'm not sure if we will still do an amnio regardless of the results or not. Just depends on what they say. I already have my age (will be 36 when I deliver) working against me. I guess it will take 5-7 days to find out. Wendy ... I think you said you had terrible results from your nuchal with your little boy and he turned out to be just fine.

Well ... it's beautiful out here today. Upper 50's and sunny. I'm going to go out and enjoy what's left of the weekend! Hope you all are doing the same.
Love ya,

nuchal

Post by Wendy »

Hiya, our nuchal was fine last time it was the triple blood test which they do automatically here, that was bad - gave us a 1 in 30 rather than over 1 in 200, so we went ahead with the amnio as we wanted to know either way so we could make a balanced decision on what to do. The problem is, all the tests are so designed as to 'catch' as many problems as possible so you inevitably end up with loads of false positives which causes a lot of worry and statistics mean nothing when you are actually in that situation. I'm sure everything will be fine - your little 'boy' is already proving to be a sturdy little fellow. You are a youngster compared to me - i'll be 38 in july !! You are lucky, by the way, seeing your little peanut weekly - I'm dying to see ours - only 11 days to go :D

Hi everyone

Just wanted to add my self to the group after my bfp, my due date is 27th Oct, I still feel as though its not really happened. I was wondering if anyone else had been over stimulated as i had. I am still feeling extremely bloated and exhausted, unsure if its due to pregnancy or ohss.

love

Anne,

Congratulations and welcome to the other side.

After I got BFP, I didn't really have any morning sickness until I was about six weeks then it kicked in in earnest.
Sounds like your still recovering from the procedures. You talk it easy and rest up, your little embie has a lot of growing to do over the coming weeks. When is your first scan?

Kelly,
Good luck with the nuchal today, it's a great opportunity to see your somersaulting little one. We decided against doing any of the tests so our next scan won't be until 20 weeks. If there was ever a plus side of doing IVF it is certainly that you get to have scans and have them early.

Wendy,
Hope the nausea is wearing off. My first sick-free day was the day before I was 11 weeks and it has been easing off ever since. What I have now been experiencing over the past few nights is insomnia. this is totally weird for me as I'm usually an 8 hour a night person. Now I'm lying awake between 3-6am staring at the ceiling. I wonder is this nature's way of preparing you for the sleepless nights ahead.

So I had my first midwife appointment which went well - everything checked out normal and we even got to hear the heartbeat through this strange instrument she had with her. next appointment is with the ob next week. So things are moving along.

Love to all,

Oh Edi

Insomnia......................... you have it to come for a lot longer my sweet!!! ive had it since about week 10 or before.....its a real killer and apparently one of the joys about being pregnant that they dont tell you about. :? Try milky drinks, warm (not hot) bath about 1/2 hr before bed, lavendar spray (seriously I think i am now immune to the stuff, Ive moved onto peppermint), and there is a website that makes a herbal tea for nightime which is safe www.redbushtea.com. they send u free samples, but i think you can buy it in supermarkets.

sorry to butt in - just wanted to try to help!

keep in touch - love always,

Toni xx

welcome Anne

Post by Wendy »

Hiya, and welcome to the 1st trimester buddies. TAKE IT EASY YOU ARE PREGNANT - WHIPEE !!!! I got tired straight away and still am, i think first of all it an effect of all the stress you've had to go through then its definately babies fault !! My norning sickness didn't kick in till about 6/7wks was worst at 9 - 10 and now i'm 11 wks (tomorrow) i've been fine for the last 3 days so its definately waning. They say its a lot worse with twins so I'm glad we've just got the one !! wrt sleeplessness - i'm the same, waking at about 4 and unable to get back to sleep, but with me it waned in the second trimester then got worse again in the 3rd when you are sooooooo huge you just can'y get comfy and have to pee every hour plus the 'big day' worries - whether it gets you into practice for d- day -i'm not so sure - i just think it makes you xtra tired !!

I'm not sure if anyones thinking about when they've actually got a baby or not just yet, after all its still early days, but I have to confess I'm a comlpete GINA FORD CONTENTED BABY FANATIC !!! Have you ever heard about it ? Its a bit like marmite - you either love it or hate it, but I tell you what - it worked for me and I'll be using her methods again. Put it this way - my two year old goes down like a light EVERY lunch time for an hours nap (it was 2hrs till not long ago) so I get to sleep as well which is fantastic and certainly helps with energy levels for the rest of the day, then still sleeps 12hrs every night - I can count on 1 hand the number of times I've had to get up to him in the night and thats been because he was poorly. ANYWAY, enough of my sales pitch (I don't sell her books - honest !)

Great to hear everyones really well. Can't wait for our scan next friday - counting the days........
love to all xxxxxxxxxxxxxwendy xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
