Why wait for a donor???

Post by honey_baby »

Hi everybody! I am new to this forum and a bit confused. We had a successful egg-donation procedure last December. I am now 11 weeks pregnant. -:)

I read a few posts here and some people are mentioning that they had to wait for their egg donor for 6 or 8 years???? I don't understand. The clinic that I had my procedure done at had a long list of donors available for you tomorrow. Our wait time was maybe about one month. And there were at least 15-20 potential donors to choose from.

Why do people have to wait for sooooooooooooo long at other clinics?

Hi there,
Welcome to the boards!! ( not many use this site they use the main board for just about everything  )

I don't know why people have to wait so long for the donors???
My DH and I are just waiting for my blood test results to come back to see if I can egg share. The hospital we use have only just started this method so I will be able to donate ( all going well) as soon as possible. I do know that many of the hospitals I looked into have a back log of recipients waiting.

Anyway, the reason I wanted to say hi was that it is a big step egg sharing and it is lovely to see you have been so lucky with your treatment. Congratulations xxx I hope we can be lucky next time and bring some luck to another couple also x

Hi Leanne,

I really appreciate what you are doing for people like me. Our donor was just wonderful. The first couple had twins with her eggs. The second couple had triples (!). We were the last couple and we are having one baby.

So, cumulatively, it's 6 babies that she helped to make. Wow! I am pretty sure it feels very rewarding.

Good luck you!

I live in US. We had our first procedure done in Oklahoma. The second one was done in Chicago. We are starting our 2nd trimester today. :D

Egg donors ARE expensive. We paid about $5,000 plus the cost of medication each time. But you do what you have to do. :)
