Hello All,
I was delighted today to hear that 4 of my eggs have fertilised. I'm now so excited - have to go for ET tomorrow at 12.15 so really onto the home straight now. Can'r say I'm looking forward to the 2ww (I'm really impatient at the best of times!) No doubt you'll all hear a lot from me as the days drag on - but for tonight it's happy news and looking forward to them transferring 3 embies tomorrow.
Hope everyone else is doing ok.

Love
Debbie

I hope you don't mind another over 40 poster joining in.

A brief background. DP & I have been going for treatment now for over 3 years. Due to high FSH levels we were told that we would have to go for egg donation so we registered at 3 clinics and waited. We were about 25th from the top at the first clinic when it was closed down due to procedural irregularities.

A year to the day from registering at the second clinic we were told they had a donor but she turned out to borderline diabetic & was turned down. The next two donors were through the egg sharing scheme but neither responded to the treatment very well & didn't produce enough eggs to share.

We finally got through to egg transfer in September 2003 but it wasn't successful & so we went back on the waiting list.

Then DP saw an article about going overseas for IVF & we contacted a clinic in Barcelona. Great - no waiting list. So last October we started treatment again. 5 eggs fertilised and 2 embryos were transferred & 3 frozen.

We finally thought our luck had changed when we had 2 +HPTs & a +blood test but when we went for the scan there was nothing there. It was a biochemical pregnancy.

Last we week we went back to Barcelona & all 3 frosties survived and were transferred :D

So now we're in the middle of the 2ww and hoping for a BFP as this will probably be our last attempt.

Sorry - I've just re-read this posting and it wasn't brief after all!

Good luck to you all.

Hello All,
Jude - best of luck with your frosties.

I have had a great day - 3 embryos transferred today. They said that all 3 were above average quality so I'm REALLY hoping that this will be a positive result for us. Just have the dreaded 2ww now!!! Testing on 16th March.

Jude,
Dear Lord! You have been through a lot!!!
Your story makes me humble and even more appreciative for the luck we've had so far.
I didn't catch how far into 40 you are. Do you mind sharing that?
I hope you will add your test date to the list of March testers so we can watch for your BFP. What is your date?
GOD'S BLESSINGS TO YOU!

Debbie,
AND... even more good news on your cycle!!! "Above average quality"!!!... this is it for you girlfriend! I'm praying for you! BFP! BFP! BFP!

Welcome Jude. Please tell me your test date and I'll add you to the test dates thread so everyone can cheer you on! Would you recommend Spain for your treatment? someone was asking last week (a different thread) about going overseas as the costs can be dramatically different. Did you use a local clinic/doctor for the preparation or did you fly out for every consultation, scan etc? what about prescriptions for the meds? Someone who had her tmt in Italy last year had a very hard time dealing with her local GP when she wanted to test etc. Were any of these things issues for you? Sorry about all the questions.......

Debbie, 3 above average is fabulous, well done! You know how slowly time will pass, what do you have planned to help get through the fortnight?

My extremely bad mood yesterday has faded and as AF is about to arrive, hopefully the raging hormones will calm down??? I'm only on Day 5 of downregging......

Thanks to everyone for their good wishes.

In answer to the questions - I've just turned 45 & my test date is Thursday 10th March. As it is a working day I'm considering putting it off until Saturday but I don't think I'll have the willpower!

I would recommend the clinic I went to in Barcelona (Institut Marques). They are very thorough & donors have a 200 question form to complete before they are accepted.

Although English is a second language to many of the people in the clinic, there sometimes was an little difficulty in translating some technical terms. But due to the increase of British patients they now have an English doctor there, Victoria Walker who is very helpful. The costs are similar to those charged by London clinics and they give you the initial meds at your first appointment.

I guess we were very lucky in that our treatment in the UK was at the Cromwell and they were happy to carry out the scans, write prescriptions for additional meds & blood tests. Obviously, this is an additional cost but in the great scheme of things we didn't care.

Also, Barcelona is a lovely city to visit which makes it quite relaxing and our initial interview was with a very good looking doctor - think George Clooney but younger

Debbie

Just re-read your email - good luck for the 2ww.

Sounds like we're both in the same boat with 3 embies transferred.

Its good news that they were all above average. We had two grade 9s & a grade 7 (10 being tops)

DP is now worrying in case its triplets!

Randa

Thanks for your kind comments. Having read some of the tales on this board, I think we've all been through hard times and all deserve some good luck.

Dagny, good for you girl! that you found the courage to go on!!!
you have been through so much.... if anyone deserves a healthy twin, then it is you!!

Jude, what an amazing story!
Where do you live .....? in the States?
and that your cryo's survived! Great!!!

Debbie, lucky you! 3 embryo's placed back! 50% chance of getting pregnant!!
(here in Holland they only (sometimes there are exceptions) place back 2!)

I had my EC yesterday, an amazing record of 13 eggs!

Tomorrow I hear how many are fertilised...
(and this part I HATE!!)
after lots of IUI, 4 FETs and 5 IVF's
a babyboy!

Hello All,
There is a lot going on on this thread now!
Lots of us at similar stages.

Jude - best of luck.

Debra - I hope your bad mood has passed - mind you at only day 5 of downregging I guess you'll have a few more mood swings before things are over!!!!

Alette - here my clinic will only put 2 embryos back if you are under 40 but once you are 40 they will put 3 back (guess there have to be some compensations for us oldies). Last time I also had 3 put back and got a bfn but this time things sound much more hopeful.

Keeping everything crossed for everyone.

Alette, 13 is a HUGE number of eggs for those of us in our prime....( :D ), well done. Yes this bit is awful, good luck on how many make it. Would ET be over the weekend or Monday? I didn't think they put more than 2 back here in Norway either but my consultant sounded quite flexible last week, all depending on embryo quality though. I'm not sure he would have mentioned it at this stage unless I'd asked so perhaps you can ask your clinic too? today, before you know how many and what grade they are so you and DH can decide/agree beforehand?

Debbie. Are you at home for the entire 2 weeks? how are you going to keep sane?

Judy. Thanks for posting your age! It's great there's a little posse of us now.

Randa. This 40+ thread was a great idea, thanks.

Hello Debra,
Yes I am planning to spend the whole 2 weeks at home. Last time I only took a couple of days off work then worked through the wait. I have quite a stressful job so I thought this time I'd try to stay at home. Anything is worth a try!! I'm not too sure how I'll cope though. I am already getting restless - am used to being on the go all the time. Still, if these little embies take hold it will all be worth it.

Have fun
