Frozen embryo transfer

Post by Lyns »

HI,
I was just wondering I have just finished my ICSI treatment and unfortunately again it did not work. We did the test on Friday after the long 2ww and it was negative.
We did manae to get 5 embryos frozen this time, does anyone know how long it is before we can go with the frozen embryos? We have a follow up appointment with our consultant at the end of March, my dh and I are hoping we can go with the next treatment as soon as possible.
Also does anyone know if the chances of concieving with frozen embryos is as good as with fresh ones, and if we have to go through all the drugs again?

Sorry for all the questions but I am just so desperate to get going again.

Thanks

Hi Lyns

We had to wait until I'd had 3xAF's before we could start the FET.
It's to let your body calm down, I think.

Lyns, sorry your tmt failed although you sound positive and ready to commit again. I'm glad you're back, I wondered where you'd gone.

The good news is the drugs are considerably less with a FET (see next para.) as you don't need to produce eggs. All most clinics do is downreg your natural cycle, sometimes with bc pills to get the timing right. There are a couple of shots but not daily like before. Having said all of this, it does of course all depend on your clinic and their favoured protocols.

I think it's at least a month or two before tmts BUT there are two different types of FET, one is natural and involves virually no drugs, they return the defrosted embryos working with your natural cycle. The other involves controlling your cycle again with meds.

Lastly, although the stats are a little lower for FETs vs. fresh tmts, that includes the risk of them not defrosting. I think (someone will correct me if I'm wrong I'm sure) that once they've made it through defrost, the stats are almost the same. Of my 3 FETs only once have we had problems with defrosting and one other resulted in a +ve result. There are plenty of successful FET pgs on the other side.

Good luck at your follow up apt later in March.
Debra.

Hi Lyns - I'm so sorry to hear about your -ve. I can imagine just how horrible you're feeling. As per Suz, my hospital make you wait for 3 x AF before letting you commence a further cycle. They say this is to ensure all the medi is out of your system, otherwise your body could react unpredictably. I suppose this makes sense, but also know this is the longest 3 months of your life ..

Re the success rate of FET .. Debra's comment is spot on.

I hope you start to feel a little better soon.
