Clomiphene Citrate

Hi I am new to this site. I am currently in my fourth cycle of Clomiphene Citrate 50mg. I had a really bad day yesterday as I started my period. I have been having day 21 and 28 blood tests. My day 21 results have been bad but by day 28 I have ovulated every time. My cycle is very long (usually 38 days) but this cycle has been short (only 25 days) so I wont get to do my day 28 blood test. Does this mean that I have not ovulated this month? I haven't noticed an increase in my temperature either.

What makes things more frustrating for me is that I am a social worker and I work with teenagers. They seem to find it really easy to get pregnant and I find myself having to console girls that have had a one night stand and become pregnant. Most choose to terminate but some have the baby and neglect them so badly that they are taken into care. It is heartbreaking.

I am just looking for someone to talk to. Has anyone taken Clomiphene Citrate? Any success stories? What happens next if it doesnt work?

I know what you mean - I teach in Secondary and have just dealt with two 15 year olds who had abortions - Ahhh - drives you insane! Can't help with your treatmemnt questions as I'm an ICSI person but welcome to site - it's a great help and there's bound to be someone who will help, Cherylx

Took clomid for 6 months with no success so we were referred to fertility clinic. Met with consultant, talked through options, had tests done, got next appointment this week, thought we would be able to have iui but it looks like straight to ivf. I have heard people say they have had side effects with clomid, mood swings etc but I didn't ( I'm a bit of a moody cow anyway ). Just bought Zita West's book and it's full of ideas for what you and dh can do to prepare for and aid conception. It's a good read and has helped me concentrate on looking after myself more rather than worry and get upset at the fact I'm not pregnant yet. Hope this helps.

Tried Clomid for 5 months, they upped the dosage halfway through - no luck and yes, mood swings Real Evil!!

Back to consultant and we discussed IVF - no IUI, straight in but it is a real relief to know that there are so many options out there. Don't be put off though, I do know someone who was successful with Clomid and she now has a lovely son (aged 5) - so hang in there

i took clomid and lupron and progestrone estrace and seemed strange to me but took birth control to...

i know what you mean about kids.. we run a foster home for boys..
some of these women have 4 or 5 kids and abuse them something awful..


it is hard to see that everyday when there are so many women trying so hard to get pregnant..

Thanks to you all for your responses. It helps just knowing there are others going through the same situation. Everyone around me is getting pregnant and I feel really isolated sometimes. There is only so many times you can analyse it with DH. I will definitely get the book by Zita West. Have also taped the IVF programme on last night and will be watching it with DH.

Just to say i know how you feel about teenagers getting pregnant. I am half way through my first IVF at the moment and a lot of my work is with teenage parents. I get lots of questions as to why I haven't had any kids when I am so old (33!!!) and been married so long. They say they 'couldnt wait that long'! I smile sweetly and say I've got years left in me yet whilst stewing inside. Many of them are great with their kids but others just ignore them.

Good luck with the Clomiphine, I took it for 4 months but it never gave me the infamous AF (yet to meet her myself). I believe she can be quite crucial to the egg producing process??

I am new to the group, but I have been on this treatment for 3 months now. The mood swings are not too bad although I think my hubbie might say otherwise

I have heard good and not so good success stories, most of the good ones have been in the first 3 mths of treatment. One of my friends had the treatment which did not work and had just had funding through for IVF when she found out she was 2 mths pregant, she has polycystic ovaries (not sure of spelling)

The doctors have said that I have Lazy ovaries, just my luck. At least I know they are healthy and just a bit slower than most. And the tablets have kick started my periods. I go back to the hospital in a week to see if the dosage is correct.

Thanks for listening, sometimes its nice to talk to others in the same boat. I am sure I am driving my family mad and that they think it is all I want to talk about.

I'm glad to hear that your periods have been triggered by the clomiphene. Mine are obviously a lot more lazy than yours! I hope you get on well at the hospital and you are able to get pregnant in a natural way with the help of the pills. I have just had an abandoned cycle of IVF coz my ovaries only woke up a bit on the lowest dose of stims so have been booked in again in a few wks with the highest dose possible - lets hope they wake up then!!!

Its hard offloading onto family i agree, i hope you find friendships through this site. I am new to it too and this is only my 3rd posting!

Hi Everyone

I don't know if you remember me as I only joined the group a few weeks ago and only made a couple of postings.

Anyway, I have just found out I am 5 weeks pregnant. I never thought it would happen but it did and I think I am still in a state of shock.

The main reason for my posting is to let anyone who is on this treatment into something a friend of a friend told me. She too had been on the tablets but in her case for the full six months. In a desperate bid before starting IVF she gave the ovulation strips a go and low and behold it worked.

I though about it and as my ovaries were not working I did not think it was worth the £20 just to find out they had not worked again. Anyway I got them and tried them and they worked, I had ovulated.

It turns out that I was ovulating much earlier in my cycle than I had been advised and so had been concentrating my efforts after the event (so to speak)

Once I knew I that I had ovulated I seemed to relax and instead of trying the every other day method with millitary precision, I could relax and feel like a normal couple for the rest of the month.

If there is anyone else out there on this treatment, please, please give them a go.
