killer cells

Post by Bronagh »

HI been a while since I've been on. A while back there was a thread about killer cells I was just wondering if anyone had had the tests?
We are changing clinics after being given a 7 month wait for a failed treatment follow up appointment AS WE HAVE HAD BOTH OUR nhs TREATMENTS THEY DONT NEED TO SPEED up anything with us because we are off their waitiing list. sick eh.

Anyway we have our private clinic meeting next week and all this stuff about killer cells seems to ring a bell with me and was just wondering if anyone has had the test??????

Hi Bronagh
I have had some tests that showed I had a high level of killer cells which accounted for my 3 results with very low positive levels and no viable pregnancy. They took about 20 tubes of blood and sent them to America to be checked I think it cost about £800.
I was treated with IVIG infusions and obtained a positive result so in my case it ewas worth it. However I had another go after my sucessful pregnancy and this time it didn't work, apparently pregnancy makes the killer cells increase.
It is worth having the tests if your clinic recommend then for you in my opinion.

Hi Bro. I don't have any killer cells experience, but 7 MONTHS FOLLOW UP ? That must be some kind of sick joke ..? I hope your appointment next week gives you a way forward.

Hi Bronagh - I know it's a bummer about the 7 month follow-up but imagine if you lived in the south and had to pay from scratch - for your very first treatment! I had major gynae op in Belfast last June - cos the waiting list was so long to see a consultant down here let alone perform any ops!! The waiting is the worst!! Hope you get good news at the private clinic

hi. that wait sounds a nightmare. you must be so frustrated. Before I started my first IVF treatment, my consulatant suggested i had the natural killer cells test. they did a simple blood test and it was dealt with in this country. the cost was about £150. in my case it was negative. i know other people on this site have had this too. i am at the Lister in london and remember reading here that some people had the blood test at the lister and continued being treated at their own clinic. good luck.

Hiya

Have just read your post about Nk cells. I have have 3 failed IVFs and have an autoimmune disease so I was recommended to have auto immune function tests. One of these was for NK cell levels. Mine came back as super killer cells that will attack anything! I have just had my 4th IVF and had Immunoglobulin infusion, as well as taking a course of heparin and steroids to compliment the treatment. It has been a very costly process, it was £500 to the clinic in the UKfor the blood test, $500 to the hospital in Chicago,to process it, £500 for one intravenous dose of immunoglobulin and £350 for a private nurse to come and administer it at home. Very costly, but hopefully worth it. My consultant is adamant that I will not be able to get pregnant without this treatment because of my hyper immune function. If you can, also ask to be tested for anti phospolipid enzymes etc. Again, mine came back as very raised, another strong factor for implantation failure. Good luck!

I'm having a test for Auto Immune Screening on Wednesday (like you it's being sent to Chicago). They have said as my DH and I have unexplained "issues" and perfect embryoes which resulted in early m/c this could be the cause ..... at this stage I'm ready to give anything a go :D

How long did it take for your results to come back, and then when they did how long did you have to wait before you could go through your next treatment?

Bronagh

Just wondering how your appointment with the new clinic went.

I had my Auto Immune Screening test yesterday so now have a 2 week wait for the results to determine my levels of Killer Cells.

How are you feeling? Are you any the wiser?

just wanted to send you lots of luck Little P with your tests. It does seem a bit potty that tests have to be done in Chicago ???????

Would have thought there must be centres of "excellence" in Uk or at least somewhere in Europe?? or is this about your clinic not having the right connections???

I pray for you that they also come back with good suggestions how to deal with thin gs

thinking of you
