Hi everyone

Just thought it was a good idea to start another thread as there seem to be so many of us going through ec and et around now.

I had my et yesterday, 6 eggs fertilised out of 8. Had 2 put back, and the remaining 4 embies are being cultured to see if any reach blastocyst stage by next Tues. The clinic are not too hopeful though as they weren't good enough quality to freeze yesterday, but we are giving it a go as we have nothing to lose, and the embies will decide for us by Tues depending whether they've developed enough or not.

I had a 3 day transfer last time so a 2 dayer was a new experience for me. I'm feeling very sore and bloated and walking around like John Wayne!!! Not doing very much except watching crap TV (thank God we just got Sky!!) and trying to relax!

Hows everyone else doing? Have you had your et Fiona? How you doing Lisa? And how are the jabs going Beck? And Elaine how did your et go???

It's so good to have so many 2WW buddies, hopefully we'll all keep eachother sane!!

Good luck girls and keep in touch

Jules xxx
Hi Jules,
Had my et yesterday and like you I am walking about like a cowboy. Et wasnt too bad but ec was horrific--like having your insides vacummed out! !!!Had 2 embyos put back in and they have frozen 3. The other 9 didnt make it although they fertilized. Don't understand all the technical stuff!!. Have had quite a lot of crampy feelings and stomach still feels tender.
Getting pampered and generally doing nothing. Slobbing out
love
Elaine
xxxxxx
Hi Jules,

Haven't been on the site in ages, but just thought would check in to see how you are doing......so fingers crossed and all that best of luck for next few days

Fi
XX
Hi everyone

Fairly new to site.

I love reading good news like yours Jules, I only hope that everyone on this site will be in your position at some point in their lives.

This is my first attempt on IVF after finding out that both my tubes are blocked. I am currently on day 3 of my injections, has anybody got any suggestions what i should and shouldn't do over the next 2 weeks until I go in for my egg transfer-hopefully on 18th October???

ANY TIPS WELCOME, PLEASE

LOVE DEBSx
Hi Jules,

Sadly I'm now back at work - so I've got my fingerless gloves on already to make sure my extremities don't get cold. Had lots of rest and relaxation last couple of days, which is nice.

E/t went fine on Saturday - the microscope was broken, so they couldn't show us the two embies they put back - but they said they were 'lovely' 4 cell ones. The other two didn't make freezing, unfortunately. It was the big man himself - Dr Leiberman and he is quite funny, he got hold of my straddled legs and waggled them about, saying he wanted them loose and relaxed - you just can't be prudish doing this.

I've not suffered physically as much this time, but emotionally I've been all over the place - had quite a few tearful do's.

Good Luck on freezing your embies, and we'll speak soon.

Fiona

PS - Nice to see you back Fi.
Hi Guys

Just to let you know the clinic just called to say none of the remaining 4 embies made it to blastocyst. Two of them divided into 7 and 8 cells and were looking promising for blastocyst but then started to fragment apparently, so no frosties for us then.

Still they did say that as the 2 put back were much better then it looks quite good for them. But I just can't get too excited at the mo as I can't forget the horrendous pain of it not working last time, and can't bring myself to get my hopes up this time as the fall will be that much further, if that makes any sense. I don't mean to be negative but I'm thinking of it as being more realistic
I guess.

Glad to hear your et went ok Fiona. I had a really nice male doc this time too, who was so much more helpful and friendlier than the female one last time. You're right, this certainly aint no place for prudes!!! Sorry to hear you've been a bit down – I just don't know what to think at the mo, but generally I feel more 'down' than 'up' I guess. Am still bloated and get the odd cramp and am generally still a bit sore from ec, but nothing too horrendous now.

And good to hear from you Fi! Thanks for your support, I really appreciate it and hope you're doing ok.

Welcome Debs – you're bound to pick up a few tips from this board. The main one whilst you're jabbing is to drink plenty of fluids and eat a high protein diet to avoid overstimulation of your ovaries. Good luck with your transfer!

Speak soon

Jules xxx

Hello Everyone,

I too am joining you all on the dreaded 2WW. Had my EC on Friday which went pretty well, other than feeling bloaty no pain - bit of a relief, my EC was brought forward due to the fact that the scan wednesday showed I had over 40 follicles...32 collected and 25 fertilised. Had my ET yesterday (monday) two grade 1's both 8 cells so fingers crossed.
I am back at work already, I'm only sitting at a desk so didn't think it was too strenuous and also thought it would keep my mind off of things.... hasn't worked yet . Hope you are all taking it easy and trying hard not to visit the loo every 5 mins

Love & loads of luck
Charmaine
OK, having a problem at work - all I keep hearing is 'baby talk, baby talk' from a pg work colleague (who knows what I'm going through, if not what stage of the cycle I am) - it is doing my head in!

Hope I can get through 2ww without shouting SHUT UP.

A not pleased Fiona ....

Hi guys

Well I thought I was doing ok until today, when I woke up in the early hours of this morning with a familiar twingey pain in my left ovary. Basically I had this last time in my 2ww around the same time and when I rang the clinic the nurse couldn't tell me what it was, then it went again and I got AF with full force a week later, the day before I was due to test. I therefore put the twinge down to my ovary releasing an egg to start a cycle. Now it's happened again and I'm so worried I'm now starting a cycle thats going to lead to af I was in floods of tears this morning. Plus, to be blunt, I felt extremely randy which I don't see as a good sign as that's nature's way of preparing the egg for fertilisation

Does anyone know if you do release a new egg if your embies don't implant and whether it's that egg that leads to af:??? Or is the af you get with failure the embies dissolving? I know it sounds a bit stupid but I don't really know :// It would help me if I knew this.

Have now got a constant nagging ache in my left ovary.

Anyway enough of my rambling – how is everyone?

Sorry to hear about your insensitive work colleague Fiona – I can really identify with you there as my best friend at work is pg for the second time and there are at least 2 other colleagues who are pg – only my best friend knows about my IVF so when she gets together with the other pg ladies it's unbearable!! Having these pg ladies around just generates baby talk all round the team and my face is so frozen in a false fixed grin I'm sometimes worried it'll stay that way!! I've had to leave the office to go to the loo and count to ten before now, which is only a temporary solution but helps a bit. On a serious note, if I get a -ve result this time without meaning to sound like a martyr I am seriously worried how I'm going to cope at work with my friend and the others being pg. It really scares me.

I hope everyone's doing ok and if you're on the 2ww come and join us (if I haven't out you off with my whinging)

LOL Jules xxx

Ps Wow thats a fantastic result Charmaine. Well done!

Hi Jules,

Firstly, don't worry. Whatever is happening will be a natural thing or a direct result of the treatment. Your ovaries have been through a lot, remember!

Eggs (normally one outside of IVF) are released only once per cycle. This is 36 hours after the LH surge. Now, in IVF the ovaries are surpressed so that the LH surge does not happen, and the hCG is the 'artificial' substitute. This is why we are asked to inject this 36hrs before e/c.

Now, the lining of the womb then takes the next 14 days to thicken. Progesterone pessaries or another hCG injection support this process (called the luteal phase). The embies then have to implant and continue to grow to produce enough hCG themselves to stop the next cycle from happening - in other words af. It isn't often this 14 days changes regardless whether your period is longer or shorter than the 28 day norm. But IVF screws your body up.

Now hospitals expect you to wait at least 14 days after e/t, but effectively you can test 14 days after e/c. I'm going to do that this time - I've made my mind up.

If anyone can see any flaws in my description - please shout.

I hope this helps, Jules, and if you can make it on Fri for the chat we can discuss it a bit more with others.

Keep calm and relaxed girl.

lol

Fiona xxxx

Hi Fiona

Thank you so much for your reply. Your description was excellent and v.impressive! And you've made me feel so much better – THANKYOU!

However, sorry to sound completely thick but can I just clarify something – when you say "The embies then have to implant and continue to grow to produce enough hCG themselves to stop the next cycle from happening - in other words af" by that do you mean that your body does produce a new egg if the embies haven't continued to grow and produce enough hCG of their own and that in turn will become af? Or are no new eggs produced due to the IVF and af is a result of the embies dying? Sorry but am still a bit confused on that one ?

I will try and make the chat on Friday, the only thing is I may be at my parents that night but would love to make it if I'm around.

Thanks again Fiona for responding so quickly, it has really cheered me up and I hope you're doing ok yourself.

Take care

LOL Jules xxx
Jules - I've been following all your progresses and will try to help, although not sure I can match Fiona's scientificness! I think you can be sure you won't be producing another egg yet, not until after af (which hopefully won't arrive). Basically, irrespective of the IVF or embies the womb lining would carry on thickening for about 2 weeks after ovulation. It then breaks down (af) unless the lining has got the signal that an embryo has implanted and is releasing HcG.

Twinges in the ovaries are really common as they shrink back down and recover from what they've been through, so try not to worry about it (although I do know that all there seems to be on the 2ww is worry about various "signs").

I'm not sure if this helps at all, but wishing you all the best.

Alison
HIAY ALL

I have been reading all your messages on this board and you all seem to be doing FAB.

JULES
How are you feeling now that you are in week 2 after ET?

CHARMAINE
With the amount of follicles that you had growing your stomach must have being huge and uncomfortable?

WOPPA
Hope you are feeling OK now that you are in week 2?

From my second scan on Thursday 10th the hospital were very plessed with my follicles and they brought my dates forward.
I have now had my last scan on Saturday 12th and I am quite sad at the moment as they could only see 6 good sized follicles but obviously we do not know if any of them had any eggs in them until after EC. I had at least another 6 follicles but only small ones which nothing might come of them. With only 6 good sized follicles this is going to possibly reduce my chances
ANYWAY
I am taking my HCG injection Sunday ANY SUGGESTION WERE BEST TO INJECT, thigh, bum or stomach?
Going into hospital on Tuesday 15th for EC which I am not looking forward to after reading how you felt JULES & WOPPA.
Will keep you all posted with my updat after 15th EC.
LOVE DEBSx
