skin disorders

Post by brinilass »

Hi All
I was wondering if any of you lovely ladies have a skin disorder?
I have psoriasis  which can get very sore at times and wondered if any of the drugs needed for treatment affected the condition?
Its not a nice condition to have at the best of times...but heres hoping the drugs wont make it flare up or anything.

love Kelly x

I have Rosacea, which is a reddening of the skin. It's affected by stress. My rosacea came on when we started ttc. My doctor said that once we fall pregnant it'll go away. I am on a cream for it but it's ok to take if pregnant or ttc.
It would be nice to hear if anyone else has it too.

My df also has rosacea, but I don't suppose he counts .. I feel for him 'cos when he has a flare up, he really suffers.

Yes, I suffer too!!
I had this 3.5 yrs, started not long after we started ttc, first I was told it's stress related, I was under stress due to ttc and my dad had cancer (he died last Sept  ) So all in all the last 2/3 yrs have been pretty crap.
I know what my triggers are:
I try to avoid things but the main issue with me is emotional stress, as you can imagine I am under lots of that!!!

I flare up after drinking wine, after eating spicy foods, being in a enclosed environment with central heating and no freash air.
Also being out in the cold and wind. :(

It's no fun!!
Ive tried make up, nothing works, nothing covers up when I am having a flare up!!
The doctor gives me a cream, which helps but honestly it's only v.slightly better.

What does your fella use? Is he on cream? or tablets?
What causes his?

Thanks Sandra, :)

PS: Sorry about going off on a subject thats not related to ttc, but to me it is as if I didn't have the emotional stress of ttc I wouldn't have this damn Rosacea.

Hi Nicola ... Yes, you've definitely not had a good 2 or 3 years. I'm sorry to hear about your dad. My dad was ill for a long time too before he died, so I can imagine how hard it was for you. I promise, It WILL get easier with time ... x...

Neil's (df) rosacea is definitely stress related ... just before we went on hol he had a really bad do, and I know he was wound up about all the travel arrangements etc ... he is a real bad traveller ... the central heating also definitely does him no favours. Neither does the cold ! You sound like you have v. similar triggers.

He's seen many doctors and a dermatologist, and over time has been prescribed lots of creams / ointments. He's never had tablets. The creams seem to work very limited, for a while, then he needs to move onto something else. He also suffers from a problem with his scalp. Not exactly rosacea, but it must be something related. Very itchy, sore, red (through scratching), crusty sometimes (sorry - tmi) - and this drives him barmy. Again, shampoos etc seems to work for a while only.

At the moment, on his face, he's using Rozex gel. He also has hydrocortisone cream 1%, for when the problem's acute. It's difficult to say if it's working though at the moment, as he has a tan.

He's also now using prescribed "Doublebase" moisturiser, which seems like a god send. He used to say that sometimes the skin around his eyes felt so tight it was difficult to open them.

It's weird because the doctors have always told him that the sun would make it worse, but in fact it seems to clear it up. He tans easily, and just goes a lovely golden brown. Maybe that's the answer .. move somewhere sunny ..?!

What are you using ?

Hi Sandra!
I am using Rozex Cream. Have tried others this seems the best, although at the moment I am wondering if I have built an amunity to it. Can't see any improvement. :(

Tell me more about this double base moisturiser? Is that from his GP?
What's it's name?
I too, also have this tightening around the eyes, but never thought this was related to Rosacea. Just assumed I did too much crying and believe me I have done lots of that these past 2/3 yrs.

Lovely to have met someone who understands this!

I do find the situation improve's in the summer, I guess it's the sunshine!!

So roll on the summer huh??
:D
Thanx for listening! Sorry for bombarding this post with my problems!

KELLY, I hope your psoriasis is ok? How are you coping with the drugs? A work mate has this condition, so I know how you are feeling. all the best!!

Hi Nicola ...Don't worry about bombarding :)

The cream is just called "Doublebase". It's just a white cream, that looks like E45 or Aqueous cream, but maybe is a little more oily ..? It says on it that it's for management of dry or chapped skin, which may also be itchy or inflamed.

I have tried it on my hands, and even when you wash your hands it's as though you haven't washed all the cream away (like they're still protected).

The doc did prescribe it, but I think you can get it over the counter too. It's in a pump dispenser too, so it's real easy/clean to use. It's certainly worth a try.

Dear Kelly
I now have bad acne form the pill - it really doesn't agree with me so I use Avene from Boots - it doesn't stop the spots but it calms them. God knows how my skin will go when the real drugs kick in.

I had the same response when they started me on Gonal F :!: :x What with everything else it felt like the final straw :( - one minute lovely skin, then gone - poof :!: When I spoke to the hospital about it they suggested drinking more water and no caffeine - believe me it really helped :)

Thanks LittleP
I'll try that - now caffeine free in build up to tretament but could do with more water. Anyway spots are a small price to pay for the end result - fingers crossed

Good luck - as you said a small price to pay :!:

I've been caffeine free now for about 4 weeks - yes!! :) I know I need to drink more water but I find it so bland and then I spend half my day rushing to the loo :!: :?

Little P - Try squeezing fresh lemon, or lime, into the water. It really cheers it up.

:D

Excellent idea - I will do that. Anything to make water taste better is worth a shot :!:

Why couldn't it be something like Champagne that we had to drink loads of?
