IVF

Post by Campbell »

Hi, I am new to the bourd. I had my EC 3/17. But I had overstimed because i had 31 eggs so they would not put the embroys back in me on 3/20 like they were supposed to. So now I must do a FET after i get my AF. Which is pretty depressing since that was my first IFV cycle and never even got to try fresh. Can anyone give me some postive feedback on FET. Also out of my 31, 17 fertilized and 5 were not good. So now I have 12. When they defrost will I lose some? Thanks. Can I join your April cycle?

Hi Campbell

Welcome :!:

Sorry about what happened, but try not to get too down - 12 fertilised eggs is really good :D

Go onto the April thread and you'll get yourself added to the list - the more the merrier!

I don't know the answer to your question about egg survival following FET - but I am sure the others will fill you in :!:

Take care and loads of PMA.

Hi CAmpbell
There is a thread on here about FET with lots of info, although most people tent to post on the General forum. You have done so well to have that many eggs, best of luck with the fertilisation stage. There does seems to be some loss, I think someone said 3 to get 2, but you need to ask your clinic what their rate is.

I am in the May cycle and we are having donor eggs - I hope my donor is as productiove as you!!! We will hopefully have 1 fresh go and after that FET until the embryos are used up as in Spain you must use all eggs before a new cycle

Ask your clinic for the info - don't let them fob you off, not knowing just adds to the stress and a lot of ladies aren't firm enough with thier clinics (I am guilty of that)

Hi Campbell

Your stats sound exactly like mine! I haven't done any fresh - out of 30+ follicles we got 12 frosties and now have 8 left - waiting for 2nd try at FET in June.

I think the chances are slightly reduced with FET but I don't think bout that - it's just a slight difference in statistics. The positive thing about a FET is that you go in feeling fresh and happy with the EC way behind you. The 2ww is a killer still - hit me much harder than i imagined - but that's IVF!!!

Don't worry - I was devastated when they didn't put my embies back striaght away but it was short lived. At least you haven't failed, just delayed for a while, and you have great number of frosties waiting. Keep smiling! :D

Thank you all for being so warm. It is so hard to talk my friends about this stuff. They don't understand. It so much more emotinal then I ever anticipated! I feel up and down all the time. But I am trying to focus on the goal and stay really positive.

Hi there Campbell. Welcome to the site. It sounds like you've found us at just the right time.

I'm doing my first FET this cycle and I too was worried about the lower success rate, compared to a fresh cycle. From what I now understand, once the frosty has actually survived the thaw, it has just as much chance of implanting as a fresh embryo. Also, as Lumi has said, your body will have had a rest and there'll be far less medi in your system.

FETs do work. This board has proved that over the last 12 months.

Lots of PMA (positive mental attitude) required though !!

Hi Campbell,
Sorry this response is so late. I had the same question with my doc, and was told that there is as much as a 50% chance that some of the embryos will not survive the thaw. HOWEVER, of the ones that survive, the chances are equal to that of fresh transfer. :D
With 12, you are in GREAT shape! I wish I had 12 waiting :D

Hi Campbell, I'm in exactly the same position as you. I had my egg collection on the 18 March and my transfer was set for the 21 March but I developed OHSS and the morning of the transfer they had to freeze everything. I had 36 follicles before EC but they had me 'coasting' for 4-5 days for my bloods to calm down, so I lost a lot of good follicles. In the end I got 9 eggs and 7 fertilised. My clinic seems to think that that is a good amount. I know exactly how you feel, it is so disappointed and I cried my heart out because I couldn't finish the cycle. But as the girls said the hard work is done and our bodies should be a lot fresher for the transfer. I'm hoping to get started asap. My clinic starts on CD21 so I have to check with them if I can start on this AF or wait for the next one. When are you starting?? As I keep telling myself, try not to worry too much. My consultant said that most people use their best embryos and freeze the rest but we'll be using our best embryos for the frozen transfer. With our clinic there’s a 66% chance of them surveying the thaw but the better the quality of embryo seemingly the better survival rate??? Best of luck to you and hopefully it’ll work out for us this time around. Hi to everyone else. xxx

Good Luck with the FET - fingers crossed that you can get started as soon as you feel ready.

:D It's lovely to hear you sounding so positive :D

Thanks little P. Got talking to my consultant and we can start the ball rolling with this AF, so I expect transfer to be around the 25 May. Eveything is a waiting game and always seems so far away. I'm excited though and wishing AF to come. Talk to you soon. xxx
