in 2003 i successfully became pregnant via iui with donor sperm. i had a gorgeous baby girl. i timed and got it correct: lh surge 3pm cd12, single iui with 2 semen vials on cd13 at 10:40 am. (i had also tested at 9am on cd12 and no surge so i thought to use midpoint of 12pm betw both tests on cd12 as est. lh surge. so i wanted iui on cd13 by 12pm).
had 2 iuis already and no luck on cd13 around 24 hr mark. i had begun to drink coffee recently to stay awake due to long work hours. not sure how caffeine could be possibly reducing my chances at pregnancy.
to begin 1 semen sample per iui around april 7. what timing do you suggest? i would like a son. i thought to have iui done around 36 hr mark. never did that. also no desire to do meds as yet, just the iui with donor sperm so far.
i possibly thought that since i had a girl before, that maybe i ovul after 24 hr mark. like near 36 hr mark. they say girls are slower but live longer. so i figured that by the time i ovulated most of the boys wer possibly gone. although there was no way to really know this.
--any TIMING suggestions for donor sperm iui's???
--for those of you who had a son via the same way, at what hour did you
do an iui??? please share your story.
--also, please tell me at what hours you did a single donor iui??? please
share your story.
--also, what have you heard about the sperm life of donor sperm???. i
heard it lives for only 12 hours.
I do not want to be not polite but I think your question is rather rude here.
I personally feel that your question should not be on this board.
I cannot conceive naturally, your question about conceiving a boy is one I cannot believe you dare to ask.
I'm going to be really brave here and post a reply - and if I upset anyone i'm really sorry.
I think you both have valid points of view. I had 3 unsuccessful attempts of IUI and like Alette, I think it is rather insensitive to say you want a son as most of us on here are so desparate we'd be happy with either. That aside, the fact that Starrranee is having IUI with donor sperm means that she obviously has fertility problems and we should all be there for each other, i'm sure she didn't mean to be insensitive.
However, having read Starrranee's message, it did interest me because I have a regular 28 day cyle and was told I had to have IUI on day 14 (sorry i'm not familiar with all the abbreviations yet!). On my last attempt however it was a day earlier because it was a Friday and obviously they couldn't do it on a saturday (that's the NHS for you!) anyway, i'm sure that i stood a better chance that time becuase I know I ovulate around day 12 (home kits) and when i got to my 3rd cycle I realised that i should have insisted they did the insemination earlier. However, I asked this and they insisted the injection they gave me would have released my eggs at the right time. Now I'm left wondering whether I'd already ovulated say at day 12 so even if they gave me the injection it woudl have been too late - could this have been true? can anyone help me as I'm left wondering now and whehter I should pay privately for more IUI before IVF? we have unexplained so they said IUI should have worked. If anyone could help i'd be really grateful.
Thanks and I hope I didn't upset anyone x
I would like to say that in NO WAY did I mean to be insensitive to what we all so desire and that is to have children or have more children inspite of fertility issues. I am new at posting messages. And me stating that I desired a son was because I did have a little girl via iui in 2003, but I also already had a daughter, naturally, in 1985. Therefore, i have two daughters. My grandmother had 2 girls - my mom and her sister. There are no males on our line. I had found info via the internet about things like if you time close to ovulation you may increase chances of having a son. Or if you do it a bit earlier than ovulation you may increase chances of having a girl. So i thought to post to hear the various iui timing success stories.
Sorry for anything within my email that may have been OFFENSIVE in any way. That was in no way my intention.

All the reading via the internet told me to insem before the 24th hour. So I figured a way to narrow down that 24th hour with the ovul kits. From monitoring several cycles, the kit surged on cd12, i ovul on cd13. The kit came with 7 sticks. I would begin testing on cd11, twice - 9am & 5pm. Then on cd12, 3x - 9am, 3pm, 8pm. If i got a surge I would minus a few hrs and assume the surge occurred about 3 hrs earlier, i.e. 9am - no, but 3pm - yes. 12pm was the assumed real surge hour. So I wanted an insem on cd13 by 12pm. I phoned the nurse. She stated that the insem betw the 24 & 36 hr, so I would get an insem at about 3pm. I said ok but this bothered me minutes later. I phoned back and figured if I am paying my money for something that means so much I would rather lose it on me making a mistake on the timing. So, I rephoned the nurse and nicely asked for a morning appt on cd13. She agreed with some hesitancy. 10:40am a successful iui. Had it been at 3pm it may have worked. I dont know.
I am a bit bugged by the timing this go round because this new office (old office closed) has no insems after 1pm. So i may not be able to aim for a 36 hr mark, or a little before it. I thought to try that this go round. But, I am feeling like if the 34 hr mark is in the late evening, say, 7pm. do i spend my $ and try for the 1pm appt or do i sit out that cycle. you hate to lose a cycle.
Now, I will also say about that 1st office, that doctor seemed to want to rush you on into meds and other things before even trying iui alone, maybe 3 or 4 times. I thought that a bit odd. That is why I sort of asked for what I desired for me. I think that if your gut tells you to do a certain thing a certain way, then you go with that feeling. And if i doesnt work then you know you tried it and you feel comfortable about moving on. If you dont speak up and you do something you dont want then you will continually question yourself about what you felt you should have done. If you have the $, do the timing as you feel before moving on to more expensive things.
Thanks for your advice. I must admit I was so sure IUI would work that perhaps I am a bit blinded by that. I know they are the experts but I always felt they did it too late.
Thanks for your help - certainly some food for thought.
Please don't be put off about posting your messages, i'm sure everyone understands - it's difficult for us all and we all have our own issues. I often think that something I say might offend someone and that is my last intention but we all have our own crosses to bear and you never really know if you're saying the right thing.
we're all here for everyone x
re. the question about coffee. I read in Fertility & Conception (Zita West) - a book I recommend - that caffeine reduces chances of normal conception by upto 50%. You might want to stop whilst ttc.
Firstly, I hope that all the difference have been resolved now, not nice to bicker. Life is too short. Lets live in peace girls!
I am about to start IUI with donor, thats what attracted me to this post. But now I am totally confussed.....
my clinic has said to test, then come in next day. whats all this about timing hours. How can that be possable?? I doubt I can time it that exact, it's not easy! My clinic isnt local so has to arrange travel there, and arrange time off work....
I would be happy with what ever sex baby god gave me, what ever is meant to be in life will be.
