New to website: Bridge Center ICSI patient

Post by ejs »

Hi, I'm new to the site and have to say that I have spent a few hrs laughing and crying over some of the comments posted. It is sad but also a relief to find others that you can talk to about this. Some times you feel like your in a cage and no-one can hear you scream.
My DH is 25, I am 37 (yes...I know!). He unfortunately has low mobility but otherwise everything's ok. We have undertaken 2 lots of ICSI, both of which were -ve. Even though the first time resulted in 12 healthy embryos and the 2nd attempt resulted in 8, the remaining embryos have not proved sufficiently adequate for freezing.
I don't understand this. I read so much from this website about FET being carried out. Freezing remaining embryos seems a common enough exercise...am I right?
I also want to know if anyone else out there is using the Bridge Center at London Bridge. I would really be interested in feedback and experiences as are we are considering treatment elsewhere, or at least speaking to someone who makes me comfortable about remaining at BC.

Hi ejs

All I can say to you is that you need to compare results from other clinics and also decide how you feel. We stayed too long with a clinic we were not happy with whilst in the UK and then made another mistake in Germany. We now have a clinic here that's very supportive and we chose IMarques in Barcelona because of published success rates and recommendations I found on sites like this one.

The only message here is it's your life, your time so make sure you are happy with your clinic, and don't be afraid to get 2nd opinions or change clinics..you can take your results with you...and your current clinic should be able to give you proper clear explanations about what is happening / going wrong etc ..if they can't do that then no wonder you have lost confidence..

hope that helps a bit

Thanks taylorjools for your quick response. You give good advice. I have been looking at the stats within the HFEA Patient's Guide to IVF Clinics to get a feel for the clinics that come out at the top for Live Births. The Bridge Center comes out worse off than I'd expect but it's hard to know whether the other clinics cherry pick their patients based on age, circumstance etc or whether they genuinely are better.

A little more research I think. But I shall definately be looking for a 2nd opinion as you suggest.

Thanks

Hi Ejs .. Welcome to the site. You'll soon feel like you've been around here forever. We had 6 embies on first cycle, but none fit to freeze, then second cycle quite a few frosties - so it does vary. I did put df on tons of vit supplements / better diet though, before 2nd cycle - so that could possibly have helped ..? Who knows ..?

did you have any problem particlar about the bridge centre? i am currently receving treatment at the clinic for icsi and got BFP first time. i am going there this thursday for my 7 weeks scan to hear the heartbeat.

the problem i experience with the bridge is with the nurses and finance department. which i have complaint about. but the doctor are great and full of experience.

Hi Sand, thanks for your post. It's always encouraging to hear accounts from people in a similar situation. I shall rush off to Boots and get the vits for DH. I've already cut his chips from his diet...poor bloke, didn't know what hit him!

Hi Victoria82, congrats on your news. To be honest, after having read the accounts on this site, I feel a lot more comfortable with the Bridge Center. I think I'm frustrated at not having my questions answered but I guess some of them can't be. I did initially find a problem with one of the nurses but I understand that she's left. I also had a problem with one of the ladies that did the ET. For me, it was really painful and the woman that did it was cold and detached. That really put me off for a while. Although the ET was again painful for the 2nd cycle, the woman that did it was lovely, sympathetic and encouraging so I felt a lot better about it all. Apparently I'm just super sensitive down there......first I've heard of it!

The people involved in the theatre for the egg collection are superb though. I couldn't fault their care and sensitivity. I'm due to start with them again on 4th April

fingers crossed
