Hi there!

Post by firstivf »

Hello ,

I am new to this forum, while searching on google for some information I came across this group. Very informative and with plenty of support. I wish I had found this site earlier.

I had one failed IUI, my DH has poor morphology hence our chances on IUI are much less than general population. I was an emotional wreck after the failed IUI, so we decided not to go through any more IUI. Next month will be my first IVF. Although I am too scared of needles, but somehow thinking about the fact that I might have a baby gives me all the courage..

Are the shots too painful? My doctor prescribed elma cream to apply before shots. For the intramascular shots. Hopefully everything goes well. Now every day feels too long. I never looked at the calendar so often times earlier. I hope things will work out.

Thanks for reading!

Hi firstivf and welcome aboard! I am sorry, I can't help you with info about the shots you are having. Are you in the USA, this drug seems to be used more there.

I have been using a stimming drug called Puregon that needs to be injected into my stomach daily, not intramuscular (I don't have a six pack stomach). These are not painful at all as the needles are so tiny you cannot feel them go in.

I am certain that somebody on the site will be able to help you. Sorry. Good luck with the treatment.

Cheers

Hi there. Like Heather I've used Puregon for all my tmts and as I also don't have a six-pack stomach, they've not hurt at all. The only intra-muscular shots I've had have been the progesterone jabs shortly before ET and as long as I'm distracted, they've been fine - whether doing them myself or someone else helping.

Good luck,
Debra.

Hi Firstivf

Firstly welcome here - you've made a good move by joining, you will get loads of support :!:

The Elma cream is very effective. I haven't used it for IVF but when I had an operation they put it on the back of my hand and it worked a treat :D . It does need the hour to work so remember to put it on early enough :!:

Good luck with everything and join in any of the treads in the General Forum when you feel ready.

Hi first ivf
I too am of the very scared of needles type. I cried just watching my husband getting an injection !!
Anyway this is to say honestly and truly I did my very first injection yesterday and it didn't hurt - promise!
The needles are very fine and small and so long as you are definate and don't dither it won't hurt - you can't shove it in too far cos there's a stopper.
Hope this helps, take care

Hi ivf

Like LittleP said, this is a great place to be when your're feeling an emotional wreck and nobody seems to be in a position to understand you!

It literally took tons of weight off me.

I am also terrified of needles and when I did my blood tests and found out I hade to take blood four times in a day I started crying! Go figure!

Well just wanted to send lots of PMA and do join the threads in the general forum. It really heps!

Love

Hi There,

Would just like to say hello and thank you for joining us, we are a great site and very friendly too.

Please don't feel too scared about whats ahead with IVF, I had my first lot of ICSI tmt and it worked for us and now blessed with a beautiful 14 month old son.

I was petrified about having the needles but then I had to remind myself why I was doing it. My Husband was scared of needles too but he overcome it and he was the one to give me the needles. I'm not going to lie and say it doesn't hurt because it does hurt but not very much. You do get a stinging afterwards but I stayed positive and just kept reminding myself why I was doing it.

Any ??'s ask away.

Hello and welcome istivf

I don't like needles either, but I had an injection machine and did them in my thighs which were black and blue at the end of tmt - didn't occur to me until we went swimming and loads of people started glaring at dh   they thought he'd done it

any way we have all been there are there or are going there so you are in the right place

Hello. I like you have had failed IUI's in the past. I just started the IVF treatment and I will let you know the injections do not hurt. I will be honest and say that you might be a little sore the next day in the tush, but it is nothing that is drastic.

I do know the feeling of worrying about the shots, I was extremely overwhelmed when I found out that all of my shots had to be given at night and that is when I work, so I had to do them all myself....so if I can do it, so can you! :D

Good luck to you and keep your chin up. My first round of shots did not work with my body, but I am not giving up yet!!

Hi firstivf,
Welcome, and good luck for your treatment. All of us have our fingers crossed for everyone that the treatment will be successful, and we look forward to seeing your +ive post at the end of your 2ww. PMA PMA PMA
I don't think I did intra-muscular injections ... basically I put the injection inside this "gun" and then shot my stomach 2 times a day. Sometimes I bruised but this was if I didn't pinch the skin before I shot myself. It does sting a bit, but I really didn't mind. In a weird way I used to like doing the injections as when I did them I knew that the drug was helping all my follicles grow and that I would have lots of juicy eggs.
It was kind of exciting when actually doing all the drugs as I really felt that I was doing something positive for a baby.

Not sure whether this helps at all, but I dod know that people worry about the injections but when it comes to it it is alot easier than anticipated.
All the best

Hi first ivf,

Welcome aboard! This is my first IVF/ICSI attempt and all I can say was that the injections kinda freaked me out the first time I had to do them. It's slightly painful the first time then afterwards it's like nothing. I had to do intramuscular injections with repronex and for me, the IM shots hurt less than the subcutaneous shots.

Good Luck with your treatment. And catch you on the other threads!
