Hi Alette,
I just wanted to pop on to say hello and to wish you all the luck with your scan next week. I think I recall you mentioning that you wanted to do it a little later to make sure there would be a heartbeat. That was a smart move, wish I would've done that. I remember mine was a little early and the heartbeat was there but it was slow. It scared me to death. My dr. told me coming back in the following week to make sure it went up. Needless to say it was a long, horrible wait ... but in the end all was well.

I'm sure everything will be fine next week. Keep thinking positive! Just wanted you to know someone else will be thinking about you!
Hugs,
Kelly

Alette

Thank you for starting this thread - I had a positive test on 11th April and due a scan on 18th April to detect a heartbeat.

I have resisted posting to this board, as I don't won't to count my chickens! However, seeing your message gave me the courage to reply and join you in this adventure. I calculate that I am 2 weeks behind, so you will be able to update of whats coming up!

I am planning to log in to the chat room on Sunday, it would be great if you can join us.

Caroline & Alette

I've just snuck in to this thread ahead of DebraP - who I'm sure will be joining us next week.

I tested positive on Sunday, through the dreaded HPT & had it confirmed by blood test yesterday (Hcg level was 782 so there's a possibility of twins )

We had donor embryo treatment at the Institut Marques in Barcelona as there is no waiting list there. Another of the over 40 brigade - taylorjools or BigJ as she's known, is going there on Thursday for her first appointment - fingers crossed, she'll be joining us as well soon!

I know what you mean Caroline, as with the treatment we're just taking one hurdle at a time & trying not to get ahead of ourselves. Very difficult.

Good luck with the scans both of you - we'll probably wait to late in week 7 or early week 8 to have ours done.

Love

Welcome to this thread - you join a rapidly expanding 'old' girls network!

I am still only have my +ive result from peeing on a stick and am getting through each day until I can finally have it confirmed by my scan on Monday.

If feels like I am in my 2nd 2ww - but this one is proving slower than the 1st one!

Caroline

I know exactly how you feel - its almost worse than the initial 2ww.

I want to get excited and do all sorts of 'pregnant' things like look at maternity clothes, plan the nursery, wander around Mothercare type shops but don't want to tempt fate.

Guess I'll have to hold off until after the scan.

Good luck for Monday.

Caroline, good luck Monday... time is going sooo slowly don't you think....

Jude, Congratulations!!!! you must be thrilled!!!
I tried to figure out when is your conceptionday...but I only read you flew to Barcelona on Easter Sunday....
You think it might be twins??!! exciting! when is your scan??

Is not Joy from the 40+ pregnant also? Yes she is! I hope she will join us!

I had my scan yesterday, I was sooo scared!!

But!

Good news!

First, there was nothing human to see. Honestly, if they had told me it is an embryo of an kangaroo I would have believed them... but the doctor was very happy with what he saw...

okay (I mean who am I to discuss about this?, it is all new to me, he hopefully has seen more of these fruits).

Is it not very small, I asked?

No, it is not small at all, according to your ivf, you should be 7 weeks and 6 days, according to the scan it is 8 weeks and 1 day.

(anyone has an explanation for this? it seems to be normal!)

Is the heart not too slow?
No the heart is nice and okay, no need to worry....

We were very very very happy to see the heartbeat, inytinysoootiny small! But! we saw the heartbeat!! And we are soooo happy that it worked out!!
(we were scared to death to discover a "missed abortion" )

After some appointments (I am going to be under controle for Down Syndrom) like bloodproofs and mesuring the neck (who tells me the correct English expression for this) we stood outside and that is where we started to cry from happiness!

I so hope you all will be having the same experience as I had!

Congratulations on the scan result - you must be over the moon.

Absolutely no idea why your scan age is 2 days older - do they base it on EC or ET?

We had ET on Easter Monday (28 March) with 3 day old embryos. Our local hospital has a walk-in Early Pregnancy Unit so you don't have to book in advance. We plan to go just after the May Bank holiday (about 7 & a half weeks).

Take care

Hello to the 40+ plus crowd and congratulations to you all.

Alette - Congrats on the scan, sounds like everything is in order. Exciting and terrifying isn't it.

Don't worry about the difference in dates. I had the same thing happen at the six week and 11 week scan. According to the first scan the foetus was 4 days older than what we had calculated by date of EC.
But the midwives etc tend to go by the calculated dates as they believe these to be very accurate because of the IVF.
But who knows in the end, baby comes when baby's ready.

By the way the first test is the nuchal translucency test where they measure the thickness of the baby's neck as an indicator (only) of risk of downs. It's done between 11 and 13 weeks.

Hugs,

Edi

I am so happy for you - it is yet another hurdle you have both conquered, it must be such a relief for you.

I am sure you are our good luck advance party and your updates are helping with our PMA (not that you need that extra pressure)!

Although I am still keeping my emotions guarded your experience is encouraging.

Keep up the good work

Alette ... CONGRATULATIONS! What wonderful news! It's horribly stressful when you first go in and they are searching around looking for the heartbeat. Mine took a little while for them to find, but finally seeing it for the first time is the best feeling! So strange to think that a little person is growing inside of you.

As for the dates, I had the same thing happen. Not sure why, but they do sometimes go back and forth with how far along you are. You would think with IVF they would be able to pinpoint it to the exact day, but apparently that's not the case.

Jude and Caroline ... best of luck to both of you in the coming weeks!

Alette,

Huge congratulations to you! I could not be more thrilled than to read your news today, having cycled with you in the past and followed your progress. Isn't it just the most wonderful feeling to see the little heartbeat? I'm sure you will be having many more scans, and each is as wonderful as the other.

By the way you asked about the measurement test? It is called Nuchal Translucency in the US, and I had it around 12-14 weeks or so, I think. We did not want to do the amnio, so that's why we got the NT test. You're off to a great start with your baby measuring a little ahead of schedule, so I'm sure all is going perfectly.

We are expecting the twin boys any day now. IVF is so difficult, but so wonderful when it works. I hope one day they will be able to make it work for everyone.

Enjoy your pregnancy!
