ICSI - 1st Timer

Post by RachelS »
I have only just found this website and am very impressed at all the information and comfort that we can offer one another. I am 37 years of age, married and have just been referred for ICSI. My husband and I have had 2 failed IUI attempts, which we found stressful enough and now we are about to embark on ICSI I feel extremely apprehensive.

I am basically bewildered about all the jargon, and indeed the actual process itself, especially when it comes to all the different drugs etc. I would really appreciate any help and advice any of you can give.

Hope to hear from you soon.
Rachel
Hi Rachel

It's a great site isn't it. I'm addicted now!

I have had one cycle of ICSI and about to embark on a frozen embryo cycle. I'm not much help on the drugs as I only know what I had but your clinic should tell you the options. You have some to down regulate your own cycle/hormones first then some stimulating drugs to help you produce more eggs then progesterone pessaries or injections once the embryos have been replaced to help keep a possible pregnancy.

Some of the jargon is:

AF - Aunt flo - period
2ww - 2 week wait following embryo transfer
ET - embryo transfer
EC - egg collection

If there is anything else you want to know ask away.

Good luck.
Sandra X

Hi Rachel S!

I am new to this site too. I have had 3 ICSI treatments, unfortunately all 3 failed. I know how u feel about the treatment because to be honest I still am confused about the drugs myself even after all this time. You really need to ask your consultant to explain everything to you because at times they forget u are a human being & not a lab rat. Torture them until u understand everything!

On a more positive note I just received an email this morning from a friend who has just completed her 2 weeks on ICSI treatment and yes, she's pregnant on the first go & she's 35. Some people are more lucky than others but then you will already know that!

Good luck with your treatment & I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

Karen XX

Thanks so much everyone for all your messages. It really helps to know that we are all in the same boat. I'm going on holiday tomorrow for a couple of weeks for some much needed rest and relaxation and then we are going to crack on with the ICSI. So take care everyone and I'll be back in touch as soon as I'm back.

Good luck all
Rachel
Hi Debs

Well I'm back from holiday now, having had a wonderful time and ready to get involved. I have an appointment to see my consultant on the 30th of November, when he will be going through the process etc. In the meantime although we are pretty certain that it is my other half's sperm motility that is the problem I am going in for a laporoscopy in the next couple of weeks (will find out when exactly next Monday) We can hopefully rule out damaged tubes etc then.

All being well then we would hope to start treatment in December. What is your current timetable? It would be great to 'hold each other hands' through this.

Take care and hope to hear from you soon
Rachel
