Seeking Egg Donor - Canada

Post by dawn2004 »

Hi there - what a great site!

We're a loving and committed couple from Toronto, who are seeking a generous gift from an egg donor.

I was recently told that my eggs aren't viable, which was a shock. Our only option now is finding an egg donor - which is not an easy task, let alone here in Canada.

We would be interested in hearing from women, either locally from Canada, or abroad. I realize there's agencies out there who are in the market, however we would prefer to communicate and deal directly with the donor.

Thanks so much.

Dawn :)

Hi Dawn, welcome to the site

It is a big shock isn't it??? Took me a long time to come to terms with it. We live in Germany where IVF with DE is illegal, I am not going to the UK as the waiting lists are really long and success rates not that good as donors tend to be older.

Most of my research shows that finding a donor is much easier in countries (like SPain where we are going) where donors are guaranteed anonimity, success rates are highre as they are younger and compensated for their generosity. Places like Bucharest, Kiev....you should maybe do a search on the web and see what you come up with.

My cousin and my sister offered their eggs - I turned them down as firstlt they are older (sis would be 40 cousin 44) and mainly because I didn;t want the emotional burden of knowing the donor or them knowing me..

hope that helps

Thanks for the welcome :)

Yes it was a shock, given that I did get pregnant last year. The embryo wasn't viable. Now the docs tell me I have 1-2% chance with my own eggs. Ugh.... so it's the egg donation route we have to go.

Canada recently passed leglislation on sperm and egg donors (wrapped up in an anti cloning bill), which makes finding donors very hard. There wasn't much public consultation, and it's coming up for review in three years - hopefully it will change. The problem is, other than the "special interest groups" who are loud and against it, there's not many who speak up on the benefits and advantages of donors - to the detriment of hopeful loving couples like us.

Our doctor did mention the clinics in Spain, and of course the ones in the States. We're looking at all options. We thought of a family member, but like you, we don't want to deal with the emotional aspects afterwards.

Thanks so much for the information, and good luck with your trip to Spain!

Dawn :)

Hello,

I am having the opposite problem. I am looking to become an egg donor, but after speaking with a couple of agencies, I am wondering if I should be seeking privately.

Please let me know if I might be able to help.

Best of luck in your quest for baby.

Hi There!!

I'm a 24yr old healthy, happy and attractive woman living in Vancouver, BC looking to become an egg donor.

My husband and I became the proud parents of a beautiful, healthy baby girl late April of this year. I would love the opportunity to help a couple with their dreams of having a baby of their own. Children are truly a gift.

I'm 5'7, 145lbs, curvy and feminine figure, light blue eyes, brown hair, dutch/irish/english/egyptian background. Uncomplicated pregnancy. Marketing Degree, strong willed, compassionate, animal lover, friendly and outgoing, well traveled and VERY happy!
For pictures of me and my daughter please click on the link below.

Hi Carlinsmom,

I tried emailing you at your hotmail address but it didn't go through so I thought I would try to reach you back on the boards. I hope you check back as I wanted to know if you were still interested in doing an egg donation cycle in Vancouver.

My Dh and I are both 40 something (live in the Okanagan) and we have a lovely little girl whom we had biologically 4 years ago however we have been unable to carry another pgcy to term (I have had 2 m/c's and several chemical pgcies) Our Dr.'s say that egg qualtiy is the factor that we are up against.

Last month I called both of the fertility clinic in Vancouver only to be told that they only work with known donors. That is difficult for us, partly b/c we don't have any friends or family who would qualify to do this and we have been told that advertising is not acceptable. What does one do? We were thinking of travelling down to Seattle where egg donation is anonymous but then I saw your post.

If you are at all interested in pursuing this I would love to hear from you. It is only recently that we have come to the conclusion that we have reached the end of ttc with my eggs so I really don't know what the next step is.

I was quite amazed that we have some of the same genetic features, I am 5'7" and have dark blonde hair, green eyes, weight 135, my heritage is English, Irish, Austrian, and Swedish...quite a mix but similar to your background. I worked for years as a Human Resources Officer for HRDC but am now enjoying being home full time with our daughter. My Dh is an Electrical Engineer, he is 6'2" and has dark brown hair and blue eyes. Our little girl continuously talks about having a baby sister whom she has already named...however I recently ask her if a baby brother would work and she said, "Oh yes, a baby brother or sister would be perfect."

Thank you for sharing photo's...I wish I could do the same but I'm technically challenged. If you want pictures I'd have to ask my techno DH for assistance.

It is very generous of you to share your gift of eggs and we would be thrilled if you felt we might be "the" family. I know our little Grace's prayers would be answered and we would love the chance to raise another child.

Looking forward to hearing from you,
Blessings from Lee :)
