Hello everyone - who's next?

I had my Nonstress Test yesterday. It was a great day at the hospital! First I saw my girlfriend who is scheduled to have her IVF twins the day after me. She looked more comfortable than I have seen her in a while!

Then we stopped by the nursery to look at babies and saw a couple with a new little boy, from our childbearing class.

Finally, I ran into another new friend who I've been exchanging emails with. She's having twin boys as well, and we met through our local twins group's online forum. She was checking in to be induced and I only recognized her because I heard her husband give their names. He took a photo of the two of us and we will try to meet again after we're all more settled.

Lots of excitement! And our boys will be delivered by scheduled C-section on Monday, if they don't come sooner. Now they are both feet down  I think they are a bit confused.

Good luck to all - can't wait to hear your good news!

Alicia - Only a few more days to go. Can't imagine how excited you must be. It's good that you've got some other friends who are expecting twins so that you can share your stories and worries.

I'm still a bit in denial about the fact that I have less than 4 weeks to go before my due date. Arrrghh! Still lots to organise. Some days I still can't believe that I'm actually pregnant. Weird or what? Especially when baby is constantly wriggling around and my tummy looks like I've swallowed a beach ball.

Anyway, I hope everything goes smoothly on Monday. Will be thinking of you. Post when you can to let us all know your news.

Barny,

Your post made me laugh. I don't feel like I'm pregnant and I certainly don't feel like I will be bringing home two babies! I think after trying for so long, I'm thrilled, but part of me just won't believe it until it happens.

Have a happy last month - you'll have fun getting things ready and buying all the tiny clothes. That does also help make it a little more real.

Cate and Alicia:

Oh my Gosh! You guys are having C-Sections Mon-Tues! Make sure you anesthesiologist (sp?) puts the drug in your spinal block that provides pain relief for 24 hours after the surgery. It was like a gift compared to my last C-Section. Also, ask your Dr. if you can have a binder (an elastic wrap that gives your stomach some support and some relief off of your back. I'm still wearing mine and it helps a lot.

Best of wishes to you both. I can't believe it's happening so quickly now for everyone!

Love you All,

Paige

Good luck for next week Alicia and Cate!! I'll be thinking of you and your little babies!

I am now officially 1 week overdue... and willing this baby to come out. She seems to be far too comfortable... I've been having contractions for a month, but other than that, no sign. My cervix is still 0cm dilated!!! Soooooo frustrating!!! I have been drinking raspberry leaf tea by the gallon, scoffing spicy food and licquorice--- all to no avail. Hopefully she will come of her own accord in the next 3 days, otherwise they will induce me, which I don't much fancy. DH keeps trying to reassure me that I am a fantastic mummy because she doesn't want to leave my belly... but I think it's because she's scared of what she might find!!

On top of that, my skin feels so itchy when I try to go to bed... I've tried bath oils before bedtime- and slapping on moisturiser with 'vernix' in, but that doesn't help much either. I read that it can be because my blood is too warm... oh well... hopefully not too much longer!!

Sorry about my rant... hopefully my next post will bear some good news... fingers crossed!!! And to think I thought I might be early!

Thinking of you all.
Lots of love,
Tanya

Cate, Alicia and Tanya. Good luck to all of you over the next few days. That long awaited moment is finally here :D Sooooo exciting! I looke forward to your posts. And then you can join the parents board..... :)

Paige, do you know what the spinal block is called? The advice re. the support also sounded great.

Good luck with those babies!

Debra:

It's a narcotic that they add to the spinal block and I cannot think of the name of it for the life of me....it starts with a M or an N.

Tanya: I can't believe you're a week overdue! I know it's frustrating, my daughter (first daughter) was 10 days overdue, when I finally thought I was in labor we went to the hospital and they told me to go back home because I was only dialated 1.5cm! I told them no, that I would not be going home, so the Dr. came in and started the Pitocin (sp?). After 24 hours of labor I only got to 4 cm, so we went for the C-Section. It will happen soon I'm sure. They won't let you go over 2 weeks right? We were both due on 4/15....my daughter is 2 weeks old today. Yeah we made it 14 days! You are still cooking yours! :) Bigger babies sleep longer anyway!

Cate,

Wow, I did not realize we were only a day apart! I wish you a smooth delivery and a speedy recovery. I bet you can't wait to meet your little boy or girl. So, DH has held out and not revealed the gender yet? My DH could never do it - I'm sure I would have known within the week of him finding out!

Tanya,

It sounds like your little girl is just ultra comfy in there. It's true what Paige says - they do eat better and sleep longer when they're bigger. Do you know how big she is? My C-section is scheduled for 38 weeks 2 days, which is actually a little later than many twins are delivered. So I do console myself with hoping they will be big enough to adjust better to life on the outside.

Good luck to you both!

Thanks for your kind words, ladies! I hope that she will be a good eater and sleeper... at least that's one consolation!

The last time I had a scan... about 3 weeks ago, the doctor said that she was 3090g- about 7lb... and I've been 'cooking' her for a further 3 weeks... so about time for her to come out and meet us, I should think! We're off to the hospital again today, to ensure that all is still well with her... I may refuse to leave as well... it's so frustrating, having contractions, but them not doing anything... I keep trying to convince myself that something is happening, but alas, nothing!!!

Hope the weather is as beautiful where you all are- and that your bumps and babies are doing well.
Thinking of you,

Angela,

Wow, next Tuesday? I didn't realize you were so close. My friend just had twins last Tuesday at 36 weeks and they were HUGE - 7lbs 7oz and 6lbs 8oz! I'm not sure why they're letting me go to 38 weeks, except that mine are not that big. I think we'll be lucky to get them over 6 lbs. 5 oz.

So good luck for Tuesday. If you're feeling anything like me, you'll be very ready to see them and to start getting your body back! Oh, I also feel like I will always be this big  I sewed a beautiful maternity dress and pair of pants over the last couple of days. My husband thinks I'm crazy, but I'm sure I'll be wearing them for at least a few weeks after the birth, and I'm so tired of my winter maternity clothes.

Hope all goes well!

Alicia, Cate, Tanya, and Angela:

Maybe this week will be the week you all get to meet your beautiful babies! For some of you it's a sure thing though!

I wish you all luck and joy. As far as getting back into you clothes....hmmmm, I've been trying some of my stuff, and it is a little discouraging. Your uterus takes 6 weeks to get back to it's original size, so don't push the regular clothes issue. I figure I can get into them in 4 more weeks, The legs in my pants are ok, it's the waist that is an issue right away.
You don't want to get crazy trying to diet while you're establishing your milk supply the first couple of weeks. So have some Krispy Kreme to make it nice and sweet.
Now that I'm starting into week 3, I'm watching it a bit more. I have 14 more lbs to lose, so I've lost 26 lbs of it. It took me a little while to pump out all of the IV fluid, as I had a lot of it pooling in my ankles after I came home....then as my kidney's kicked in, I was losing like 4 lbs a day! yippeee. Now, it has slowed down, but I figure if I can knock off 3-5 lbs a week, I'll be in good shape. I just have to be careful not to jeaopardize my milk supply. I've been looking at all of my cute Spring wardrobe wistfully!
Best of luck to all of you this week!

Thanks Paige. I chatted to a friend's DH yesterday, he's an anaesthetist and he said the extra 24-hr shot was common at his last hospital (800km away) but not up here. He works at the hospital that I'll (fingers crossed) give birth in so it looks unlikely I'll get one.
