There are a few of us about aren't there! Good to see. Thanks for thinking of me but I think this time round I have ended up with a BFN. AF has arrived and I am doing early bloods tomorrow at the request of the clinic.
I feel oddly ambivalent about the results. I guess I never thought the first try would work and I had a few problems with my treatment along the way. At least I know that my doctor now has a better understanding of my body's response to the treatment and can adjust it accordingly next time. I am told we have to wait a month before we can begin again and we plan to jump right in there as soon as they give us the OK! Want to get in as many treatments as I can while I am in the 35-39 year demographic.....the stats are so much more positive than the next age group (and before our ever thoughtful government ensure that treatment becomes cost prohibitive).
Sorry to bring a bit of a downer to the group....I promise nothing but PMA from here on in.
Hope you are all keeping well and I hope I get to cycle with one or more of you in the NEAR future.

Whatever the result, what you say is quite correct, the medical staff will have a much more accurate idea of how your body responds to the IVF treatment and will readjust the proptocol for your next stint.
Cannot believe the proposed changes to IVF funding. I have written off letters to my local newspapers today, and John and I have had our story "long road leads to joy of life" published in todays Queensland Times (our local paper). Its worth visiting the access.org web site to look at their reccomendations regarding lobbying your local (probably coalition) MP's and senators..Bring it on I say!!

Heather, I think you've got a great attitude. As you and the others have said it's early days yet and irrespective of this particular result you're that much closer now having been through one cycle.
At our appt on Wednesday our Dr gave us a prompt sheet for writing to our local MP about the IVF funding proposal. He's doing quite a bit of lobbying himself. I'm hoping that the backlash from within the coalition will bring about a change of mind. It's certainly getting a lot of coverage and so far I haven't heard anyone speak up in favour of the idea, so fingers crossed.

Hello ladies
Well I tested today and as expected it was a BFN. My clinic seemed really upset about the whole thing which made me feel weird. They told me to take a few days to get my head together and then call to make an appointment to talk about where we go from here. I just wanted to make the damn appointment and move on!!! Anyway, DH and I have spent a pleasant evening having a few drinks on the verandah and enjoying the pleasant evenings while we can...I am sure winter is on its way.
Thanks for the website B. I have already shot a letter off to my local member.....oddly, a labor member and a female who has recently begun a family (not what you would expect in country Qld).

Deanne, yay starting to sniff. It is really exciting when you actually have something to do....it makes it feel a bit more real. Good luck and I really hope that everything works out. You have a really positive attitude which will really help.

I am not quite sure who I need to send a letter/email to at this stage (but I will find out), but when I do WATCH OUT
:evil. IVF is hard enough to go through without having to worry about this. It is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard of!
Heather - I am feeling pretty good now & positive about the next cycle. How are you feeling? I got a similar response from my clinic when I got the results. It actually really upset me. My nurse said a strange thing. When I was told how many embies we had frozen, she told me what a wonderful result that was blah, blah, blah.... After she told me I was not pg, she asked how many embies we had. I told her we had four, and her response was "Oh well, its better than nothing"!!!!!!!! What is that supposed to mean???? Maybe I am just being over analytical, related to the disappointment.
I can't wait to get started again, but we can't see the Dr until 23rd May. My DH is doing well, disappointed though. How is your DH coping with it all?

They have attached lists of all the federal MP's in Australia as well as their contact details, made it lots easier for me to get in contact with the relevant people. KNow what you mean about over anlaysing everything the clinic says to you..I've been there and done that!!!

Belinda, sounds like you have a great day planned. We really do need to make the most of the weather at the moment. I hate winter. I am trying to convince DH that we need to move to Port Douglas or Darwin....not very successfully.....but I am sure I can wear him down!
Tiger, hope everything goes really well tomorrow. Will you have a definite course of action following you appointment? I hope so. It's nice to have a timetable and know that you are doing something to help.
Jo, good luck with the sniffing. I did birth control pills prior to sniffing but once I started the synarel I felt like we had really begun. Scary but exciting at the same time!
Deanne, how did the puppy class go? They are a blast aren't they. We have a collie (lassie dog) and a boxer. The collie almost got expelled from puppy classes as her herding instinct kicked in and she was trying to round everyone up while barking madly! The poor vet nurse had to hold her throughout each class just to keep some kind of order. Collies have a very high pitched bark which can be quite ear piercing! We were too embarrassed to go back when we got the boxer so we relied on friends pets to help him socialise.

DH and I had a really great talk the other night...a bit of a disection of the whole process and have put together a list of questions to ask the clinic when we have our follow-up appointment. He surprised me by saying that when I told him the bad news he was glad that I didn't cry as he would have totally lost it! I know he was disappointed but I guess I didn't realise how much. I had been trying to manage his expectations for a while because he was so excited after the ET. I kept quoting stats and explaining the rather complex sequence of events that would have to occur to ensure a positive result. We are both great now and are having a really nice weekend. It is good to feel normal again. Roll on 23 May and your next appointment.

Arrived back on Thu, busy catching up with family and mates... but I have also heard of this medicare IVF thing. I will have to read up on it a little bit more to understand it myself.... .
Just finished watching "Step by Step" DVD from Mel IVF.... sort of explains what IVF is all about etc etc - you all know what I am talking about. To tell you the truth, I am feelig a little scared? I mean..... just worried about this whole thing. Hard to explain but I feeling real cheesed off about it too. It has made me more worried than to reassure me.
So my appointment tomorrow... I will be pretty stressed out but yea, it is only an appointment. We will be ok.

I know that costs do vastly differ in Private vs Public and depends on many factors but I am wondering what the average( if there is a such thing) costing is for one IVF cycle would be.
For example, when I had my last endo lap back in 1999 I paid $0 for the whole thing as a public patient. When I went in for the surgery this Feb I went private, and after claiming HBA I was out of pocket approx $1800. (it was worth it; but that is a different issue all together !! - anyone care to discuss?).
I think with any treatment prices must also vary with different doctors and hospitals as well?... Tomorrow after the doctor's consultation we are thinking of visiting the patient accounts get more info but I just wondered about it... yea.....

Tiger - we found the whole 'cost' issue really weird - we are going through Monash IVF at the Epworth, and if you check out their website, their is a 'costs' tab, but nothing specific on it...we weren't actually given any concrete costs information until we had been through counselling, initial blood tests and ultrasounds etc - other than a general comment that it would cost us about $3K - we have top private cover, but not sure how much we get back from that.... plus there is the safety net rebate - when we picked up our meds we had to pay around $3K, but that is before we get anything back. I guess that frozen cycles would also be cheaper, because one wouldn't need the same level of medication, the egg collection or the testicular biopsy (we are working around a vasectomy).
Best of luck with your appointment tomorrow - if you start a cycle will you stay in Melboure for a while, or will you be able to do 'bits' of it in Japan and then return?
