been following your stories- amazing. Mine not really started yet! But so far....I have polycy. ovaries - but have been told am ovulating ok. BUT....a few months ago we discoved that dh has very very low sperm (mumps as teenager) . Amazed how common male factor appears to be. Anyway having initially been told NO chance. After a further investigation we have been told our ONLY chance is with ICSI and probably via TESA. Not had consultation with fert. clinic yet -thats December. Hopefully we'll then be able to start in new year. Have so many questions! Most REALLY daft! But I guess to start with , I'd love to knwo if anyone else had tried ICSI with TESA ( which as I understand it - is I think basically "extracting" the sperm from dh , surgically...nice)- if so, any thoughts or advice? Am sure lots more Questions will follow...........thanks!
Hi Caz..welcome to the club..
I am sorry to hear that you and dh are having so many problems..but don't allow anyone to say 'Never'..if you want something enough then you will get it..you just may take longer or take another route.
I am 26 and dh 28..our first go at ICSI. My dh had mumps at 10 and his count is very very low too..under 1 million, and only 4% motility. As far as the tests show - it is only male factor with us..but who knows!
We started the cycle on the 11th October..down regulation with Buserlin for about 10 or so days and then we started stimulating with Menagon - I was on 4 powders as my FSH is high at 12.4.
When we went for our day 8 scan we were told that we may have to cancel the cycle as I wasn't responding to the drugs..the consultant advised me to change onto Merional and have 6 powders..and bingo things started to happen. I had my final scan today and have just had my Profasi jab at 10.00 tonight and I am booked in for egg collection on Thursday 8.00 - so just waiting to get to the next stage...
If you have any questions or need someone to help you through your cycle then I am always here..just leave a message on the message board for me..
I may not be around for a couple of days as I am going to be staying in a hotel in London from tomorrow night for 5 days whilst we have ec and et..
Where are you going to have the treatment? What is your dh count?

Good luck....heres your ticket for the worlds longest rollarcoaster ride!!

Love Becky B
Hi Caz,

Me and dh had ICSI with the TESA, his was a reversal that didn't reverse. The op was very painful for him (mind you most men are wimps!!) and we had lots of jokes about the swelling, he could have put that Calvin Klein bloke to shame but at least we said we had both been through a lot of 'effort' to get what we wanted. I was the unkown quantity and was 35 when we started treatment and we were so very lucky that it all worked first go and we had beautiful twins boy and girl so it was all worthwhile. I think ICSI has slightly better odds than other forms of treatment but Becky is so right when she said it really is a rollercoaster.

Keep posting and ask any questions no matter how silly you may think they are as we have all been through it and I know this site was such a godsend for me when I started treatment and still is.

Enjoy the time before you start and as I always tell everyone on this site, take time to pamper yourself and Good Luck for when it all starts.
Nicky
Hi Caz, same as Sarah, can't offer any advise but good luck.
Also, Becky B, good luck with your e/c and et - that's come round quickly. Take care.
Lots of love
Louise XXX

[Edited by Louise on 13-Nov-02 14:29]

Hi Caz,

I'm quite new too, My & hubby due to start 1st ICSI in Jan. I have PCOS and severe endo, Hubby has very low sperm...

Probably will speak to you again as it sounds like we might be on the same timescale!!

Good luck with everything

Hugs & kisses

Kirsty
TTC for 7 yrs (have severe endo and pcos and hubby has v low sperm) until became pg after ICSI cycle last feb. Now am the lucky mother of perfect little boy called Joshua born last october.
thanks so much for your replies. This site is going to become quite an addiction! In answer to question - we are going to try teh London Fertility Clinic - a guy called craft - in the abscence of recommendation from anyone (have not really told any friends or family about this - who are all sickening "fertile" and I'm not ready for the pressure!) - we basically took the approach of looking at success rates - and it seemed quite good. But I accept its a total lottery! They basically found no sperm in DHs normal "test" but did a biopsy for other reasons - and found a few that way. Thats where the ICSI/ TESA idea started. Have read your mails about side effects of treatment - certainly doesn't sound like a walk in teh park. Heres one of my stupid questions tho! Aside from the headaches and feeling generally a bit rough - am actually most worried about teh "bloating". How bad is it - will people at work notice I look different and how long does it take to fade (assuming you dont get pg). Did anyone carry on exercising during the treatment - if so did it help, or does it endanger the process? In particular wouldn't it just help just to pass the time / relax you in teh 2ww - which sounds to me like the WORST bit by far. I know this shouldn't be remotely a priority - and its not, but am just a bit curious about all teh "unknowns"! SORRY FOR LONG MAIL!
Dear Caz,

Glad you asked about that - I'm also really interested to know what other people think about 2ww and exercise. On my first cyle in June this year I did lots of exercise before and during the treatment, but then nothing for the 2ww, which is when I could've done with the stress-relief! My clinic suggested not going swimming to avoid possible infection, and not to do anything really vigorous - I was so unsure about what that meant that I didn't do anything at all. I start sniffing tomorrow (Thursday 14th Nov) and want to plan the 2ww a bit better this time (last time I kept busy during the injections etc but forgot to plan anything, except waiting, for the 2ww). What do others think?

Nina
