New to this!

Well, unlike some of you I am new to the IVF process. I am 29 and DH is 40. IVF became our only option for a bouncing baby when we found out that DH sperm count was low and what was left were poor quality. Since then however, it seems that my egg reserve may also be low. However, our consultant still wants to go ahead with IVF with ICSI. I have recently started my injections to down regulate my overies and despite all the possible symtoms I am only feeling nausious.

I am having a bit of a dilema at the moment because work can be rather stressful, at times, and I am trying to decide whether or not to take some time off work after ET - to avoid undue stress. I would appreciate anyones advice or experience.

Welcome to the site - I am sure you will get loads of help.

It is always worth posting on the General Forum as well, because you may get more responses.

With regards to having time off, I think you will find that there is no definite answer. However if your job is very stressful and you can take the time off maybe it would be the best solution - really only you can tell.

Hi and welcome to the board. I've 2 bits of advice. If you've time, post an introductory message on the Introductions board, that way everyone can read your story - ages, how long ttc, maybe which clinic, which meds you're on etc. It will save you having to explain over and over!

Secondly, have a look at the General Forum and the group that most closely matches your potential dates eg. May buddies or June/July buddies. These are chat groups for girls about to start preparing for tmt everyone shares their news/updates/progress and helps support the others on similar cycles.

Re. your specific question of time off after ET. Many if not most people do take some or all of the 2ww off - either as holiday or if they're signed off. It's personal choice and although I've not done it, I'd say most people feel better if they do what they can to help the process along. Most clinics (not all) will only say 'rest a bit then carry on as normal but avoid heavy lifting, aerobic exercise etc'. My clinic say 'everything as normal' which means working which I've done through all my 5 2wws. I've just got my 3rd +ve but like I said, most people take the time off.

Good luck, definitely look for the monthly buddy boards on the General Forum and join in with people who understand exactly what you're going through.

Hi Jaqui. Don't worry about the non-symptoms whilst downregging. On my first 2 cycles I didn't experience any side effects at all. Strangely though, this time, I've had bad headaches with the same medi.

Just want to say hello and welcome, this is such a great site, if you can take time off from work then maybe this would be an option. The only thing is being at work takes the pressures off you bcause you will just be going out of your mind. What do you do?

Thanks for the replies it great to hear other people's views and advice. I will definately post an introduction soon.

As for why I am considering time off, well I am a primary school teacher, and although the job in general doesn't cause me too much stress during the 2ww the school I work in will be going through their OFsted inspection and for those of you who know about these things - they are very stressful for all those involved without any extra burden. Now you may understand why I asked the question in the first place.
